LMI based antiswing adaptive controller for uncertain overhead cranes

10.11591/ijece.v10i6.pp5793-5801
Nga Thi-Thuy Vu
This paper proposes an adaptive anti-sway controller for uncertain overhead cranes. The state-space model of the 2D overhead crane with the system parameter uncertainties is shown firstly. Next, the adaptive controller which can adapt with the system uncertainties and input disturbances is established. The proposed controller has ability to move the trolley to the destination in short time and with small oscillation of the load despite the effect of the uncertainties and disturbances. Moreover, the controller has simple structure so it is easy to execute. Also, the stability of the closed-loop system is analytically proven. The proposed algorithm is verified by using Matlab/Simulink simulation tool. The simulation results show that the presented controller gives better performances (i.e., fast transient response, position tracking, and low swing angle) than the state feedback controller when there exist system parameter variations as well as input disturbances.

Early diagnosis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) based on electromyography (EMG) is crucial. The processing of a non-stationary EMG signal requires powerful multi-resolution methods. Our study analyzes and classifies the EMG signals. In the present work, we introduce a novel flexible method for classification of EMG signals using tunable Q-factor wavelet transform (TQWT). Different sub-bands generated by the TQWT technique were served to extract useful information related to energy and then the calculated features were selected using a filter selection (FS) method. The effectiveness of the feature selection step resulted not only in the improvement of classification performance but also in reducing the computation time of the classification algorithm. The selected feature subsets were used as inputs to multiple classifier algorithms, namely, k-nearest neighbor (k-NN), least squares support vector machine (LS-SVM) and random forest (RF) for automated diagnosis. The experimental results show better classification measures with k-NN classifier compared with LS-SVM and RF. The robustness of the classification task was tested using a ten-fold cross-validation method. The outcomes of our proposed approach can be exploited to aid clinicians in neuromuscular disorders detection.

COVID-19 Pandemic has become a major problem in various infected countries, including Indonesia. The proper risk communication strategy during this outbreak was important to reduce the impact. Therefore, this research was intended to assess the potential use of Google Trends as a tool to monitor risk communication during COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia. Search patterns were analyzed using the terminology used to identify COVID-19 in Indonesia, followed by information-finding keywords 'gejala (symptoms)', 'mencegah (preventing)', and 'obat (drug)' keywords compared to the number of newly confirmed COVID-19 cases in Indonesia using time-lagged correlation analysis from December 31th, 2019 to April 20th, 2020. Peaks within respective timelines were qualitatively described according to current COVID-19 related events. ”Corona” was the terminology mostly used in Indonesia to identify COVID-19. There were five spikes observed from “corona” keyword timeline, which each spike was dependent on the media coverage and regulation by the Government. Validation using time-lagged correlation yields significant results between corona, corona symptoms, preventing corona and corona drugs compared to newly confirmed COVID-19 cases in Indonesia. Google Trends can potentially be used to maximize the improvement of risk communication and as a tool to monitor public restlessness during the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia by Government.

A neuro fuzzy image fusion using block based feature level method

10.11591/ijict.v9i3.pp195-204
S. Mary Praveena , R. Kanmani , A. K. Kavitha
Image fusion is a sub field of image processing in which more than one images are fused to create an image where all the objects are in focus. The process of image fusion is performed for multi-sensor and multi-focus images of the same scene. Multi-sensor images of the same scene are captured by different sensors whereas multi-focus images are captured by the same sensor. In multi-focus images, the objects in the scene which are closer to the camera are in focus and the farther objects get blurred. Contrary to it, when the farther objects are focused then closer objects get blurred in the image. To achieve an image where all the objects are in focus, the process of images fusion is performed either in spatial domain or in transformed domain. In recent times, the applications of image processing have grown immensely. Usually due to limited depth of field of optical lenses especially with greater focal length, it becomes impossible to obtain an image where all the objects are in focus. Thus it plays an important role to perform other tasks of image processing such as image segmentation, edge detection, stereo matching and image enhancement. Hence, a novel feature-level multi-focus image fusion technique has been proposed which fuses multi-focus images. Thus the results of extensive experimentation performed to highlight the efficiency and utility of the proposed technique is presented.  The proposed work further explores comparison between fuzzy based image fusion and neuro fuzzy fusion technique along with quality evaluation indices.

Usually, disasters occur over a relatively short time anytime and anywhere. Most occupancies do not have absolute knowledge about the prevention or safety consciousness to deal with disasters. During disaster occurrence, evacuation processes are conducted to save people’s life, and if there is no appropriate evacuation plan, the situation will become worse. Thus, finding an optimal planning technique to evacuate occupants is critical in many cases i.e. emergency evacuation. In this paper, a Dynamic Real-Time Capacity Constrained Routing (DRTCCR) Algorithm has been proposed and analyzed. Such algorithm will investigate the capacity constraints of the evacuation network in real time by modelling the capacities based on time series to improve current solutions of the Emergency Route Planning (ERP) problem.  Such algorithm will produce an optimal solution for the ERP problem. Performance evaluation on many network models illustrates that the DRTCCR algorithm improves the previous evacuation planning by reducing the evacuation time as well as the computational cost. In addition, DRTCCR algorithm has the ability to recalculate and find out the optimal path dynamically in real time irrespective of the number of trapped people as well as the transportation network size. Analytical experiments have been carried out, which illustrates the efficiency of the proposed algorithm.

Renewable energy has become one of the most energy resources nowadays, especially, wind energy. It is important to implement more analysis and develop new control algorithms due to the rapid changes in the wind generators size and the power electronics development in wind energy applications. This paper proposes a grid-connected wind energy conversion system (WECS) control scheme using permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG). The model works to improve the delivered power quality and maximize its value. The system contained one controller on the grid side converter (GSC) and two simulation packages used to simulate this model, which were PSIM software package for simulating power circuit and power electronics converters, and MATLAB software package for simulating the controller on Simulink. It employed a meta-heuristic technique to fulfil this target effectively. Mine-blast algorithm (MBA) and harmony search optimization technique (HSO) were applied to the proposed method to get the best controller coefficient to ensure maximum power to the grid and minimize the overshoot and the steady state error for the different control signals. The comparison between the results of the MBA and the HSO showed that the MBA gave better results with the proposed system.

10.11591/ijeecs.v20.i3.pp1261-1270
B. Mabu Sarif , D. V. Ashok Kumar , M. Venu Gopala Rao
IMC-PID controllers supply exceptional set point tracking but slow disturbance refutation, because of introduction of slow process pole introduced by the conventional filter. Disturbance rejection is important in many industrial applications over set point tracking. An enhanced IMC filter cascaded with PID controller with internal model control tuning system (IMC-PID) is presented right now for efficient disruption rejection and reliable first order process operation with time delay (FOPTD). The optional filter does away with the sluggish dominant pole. The present learning shows that the recommended IMC filter provide excellent trouble rejection irrespective of where the trouble enters the procedure and provide high-quality robustness to duplicate deviation in surroundings of accepting in difference with other method cited in the text. Reenactment study was led to show the feasibility of the suggested approach on processes with different 0/r ratios by measuring the controller parameters while retaining the same robustness as regards maximal sensitivity. His efficiency of the closed loops was assessed utilizing integral error parameters. Viz. ISE, ITAE, IAE. The recommended filter provides excellent response pro lag dominant processes.

Terefe Keto , Yalfal Alemu , Aklilu Mamo
Globally, diarrheal disease is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality among under-five years of children. Every day, approximately 2195 children die due to diarrheal diseases, which accounts for 1 in 9 child deaths worldwide. Many interventions that attempt to reduce childhood diarrhea are often fail because they are programed without understanding the problem in the target community and are culturally unsuitable. Therefore, this study aimed to assess perception and management preference of acute diarrheal disease among mothers who attend under five clinics. An institution based descriptive cross sectional study was conducted from May 1-May 30/2019. A total of 276 respondents were included in the study and consecutive sampling technique was used to identify the study participants. The results show that 47% of respondents perceive childhood diarrhea is caused by teething, 47.8% of the respondents perceive that diarrhea cannot be transmitted from one child to other. Majority of care givers prefer to give home remedies to their child, and also a substantial proportion of mothers and caregivers were not adequately knowledgeable on the use of oral rehydration salt which resulted in many of them using traditional medicine. There is need for increased health education focused on increasing caregivers‟ knowledge about the cause of diarrhea and enhancing adoption of appropriate prevention practices of diarrhea among children under five years.
