Analysis of a framework implementation of the transceiver performances for integrating optical technologies and wireless LAN based on OFDM-RoF

10.11591/ijece.v10i4.pp4252-4260
Adnan Hussein Ali , Alaa Desher Farhood , Maham Kamil Naji
The greatest advantages of optical fibers are the possibility of extending data rate transmission and propagation distances. Being a multi-carrier technique, the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) can be applicable in hybrid optical-wireless systems design owing to its best spectral efficiency for the interferences of radio frequency (RF) and minor multi-path distortion. An optical OFDM-RoF-based wireless local area network (W-LAN) system has been studied and evaluated in this work. The outline for integrating an optical technology and wireless in a single system was provided with the existence of OFDM-RoF technology and the microstrip patch antenna; these were applied in the Optisystem communication tool. The design of the proposed OFDM-RoF system is aimed at supporting mm-wave services and multi-standard operations. The proposed system can operate on different RF bands using different modulation schemes like 4,16 and 64QAM, that may be associated to OFDM and multidata rates up to 5 Gbps. The results demonstrate the robustness of the integrated optical wireless link in propagating OFDM-RoF-based WLAN signals across optical fibers.

Computational scrutiny of image denoising method found on DBAMF under SPN surrounding

10.11591/ijece.v10i4.pp4109-4117
Vorapoj Patanavijit
Traditionally, rank order absolute difference (ROAD) has a great similarity capacity for identifying whether the pixel is SPN or noiseless because statistical characteristic of ROAD is desired for a noise identifying objective. As a result, the decision based adaptive median filter (DBAMF) that is found on ROAD technique has been initially proposed for eliminating an impulsive noise since 2010. Consequently, this analyzed report focuses to examine the similarity capacity of denoising method found on DBAMF for diverse SPN Surrounding. In order to examine the denoising capacity and its obstruction of the denoising method found on DBAMF, the four original digital images, comprised of Airplane, Pepper, Girl and Lena, are examined in these computational simulation for SPN surrounding by initially contaminating the SPN with diverse intensity. Later, all contaminated digital images are denoised by the denoising method found on DBAMF. In addition, the proposed denoised image, which is computed by this DBAMF denoising method, is confronted with the other denoised images, which is computed by Standard median filter (SMF), Gaussian Filter and Adaptive median filter (AMF) for demonstrating the DBAMF capacity under subjective measurement aspect.

Real power loss diminution by predestination of particles wavering search algorithm

10.11591/ijict.v9i2.pp92-99
Kanagasabai Lenin
In this work Predestination of Particles Wavering Search (PPS) algorithm has been applied to solve optimal reactive power problem. PPS algorithm has been modeled based on the motion of the particles in the exploration space. Normally the movement of the particle is based on gradient and swarming motion.  Particles are permitted to progress in steady velocity in gradient-based progress, but when the outcome is poor when compared to previous upshot, immediately particle rapidity will be upturned with semi of the magnitude and it will help to reach local optimal solution and it is expressed as wavering movement. In standard IEEE 14, 30, 57,118,300 bus systems Proposed Predestination of Particles Wavering Search (PPS) algorithm is evaluated and simulation results show the PPS reduced the power loss efficiently.

10.12928/telkomnika.v18i4.14389
I Nyoman Prayana; Universitas Gadjah Mada Trisna , Arif; Universitas Gadjah Mada Nurwidyantoro
Keywords help readers to understand the idea of a document quickly. Unfortunately, considerable time and effort are often needed to come up with a good set of keywords manually. This research focused on generating keywords from a document automatically using phrase chunking. Firstly, we collected part of speech patterns from a collection of documents. Secondly, we used those patterns to extract candidate keywords from the abstract and the content of a document. Finally, keywords are selected from the candidates based on the number of words in the keyword phrases and some scenarios involving candidate reduction and sorting. We evaluated the result of each scenario using precision, recall, and F-measure. The experiment results show: i) shorter-phrase keywords with string reduction extracted from the abstract and sorted by frequency provides the highest score, ii) in every proposed scenario, extracting keywords using the abstract always presents a better result, iii) using shorter-phrase patterns in keywords extraction gives better score in comparison to using all phrase patterns, iv) sorting scenarios based on the multiplication of candidate frequencies and the weight of the phrase patterns offer better results.

The manual process of searching out individuals in an already existing research field is cumbersome and time-consuming. Prominent and rookie researchers alike are predisposed to seek existing research publications in a research field of interest before coming up with a thesis. From extant literature, automated similar research area detection systems have been developed to solve this problem. However, most of them use keyword-matching techniques, which do not sufficiently capture the implicit semantics of keywords thereby leaving out some research articles. In this study, we propose the use of Ontology-based pre-processing, Latent Semantic Indexing and K-Means Clustering to develop a prototype similar research area detection system, that can be used to determine similar research domain publications. Our proposed system solves the challenge of high dimensionality and data sparsity faced by the traditional document clustering technique. Our system is evaluated with randomly selected publications from faculties in Nigerian universities and results show that the integration of ontologies in preprocessing provides more accurate clustering results.

Solving practical economic load dispatch problem using crow search algorithm

10.11591/ijece.v10i4.pp3431-3440
Shaimaa R. Spea
The practical economic load dispatch problem is a non-convex, non-smooth, and non-linear optimization problem due to including practical considerations such as valve-point loading effects and multiple fuel options. An optimization algorithm named crow search algorithm is proposed in this paper to solve the practical non-convex economic load dispatch problem. Three cases with different economic load dispatch configurations are studied. The simulation results and statistical analysis show the efficiency of the proposed crow search algorithm. Also, the simulation results are compared to the other reported algorithms. The comparison of results confirm the high-quality solutions and the effectiveness of the proposed method for solving the non-convex practical economic load dispatch problem.

Determination of the K-optimal number of chains-based routing protocol formed by the K-Means algorithm for the WSN

10.11591/ijeecs.v19.i2.pp917-930
Samah Alnajdi , Fuad Bajaber
Wireless sensor networks comprise of a large number of lightweight and relatively low-cost computational nodes which their main task is to sense the surrounding environment and collect the information to send it wirelessly to a central point to take the appropriate actions. Although these networks had been used in various applications, achieving this task is challenging due to the many constraints of sensor nodes including their limited processing power, communication bandwidth, and power supply. Therefore, an energy efficient routing protocols had to be developed specifically for sensor networks to insure longer lifetime and reasonable performance of the network. In this work, we propose an energy efficient hierarchical routing protocol using chain-based clustering. By simulation on MATLAB, the proposed protocol proved to enhance the performance as it prolongs the lifetime of the network and decreases the energy consumption, the transmission delay, and the overhead compared to other existing protocols as it depends on some advanced methods including dynamic selection of number of chains method, k-means clustering method, advanced greedy chain construction method, and multi-factor based leader selection method.

Active power ouptut optimization for wind farms and thermal units by minimizing the operating cost and emissions

10.11591/ijece.v10i4.pp3412-3422
Nazha Cherkaoui , Abdelaziz Belfqih , Faissal El Mariami , Jamal Boukherouaa , Abdelmajid Berdai
In recent years, many works have been done in order to discuss economic dispatch in which wind farms are installed in electrical grids in addition to conventional power plants. Nevertheless, the emissions caused by fossil fuels have not been considered in most of the studies done before. In fact, thermal power plants produce important quantities of emissions for instance, carbon dioxide (CO2) and sulphur dioxide (SO2) that are harmful to the environment. This paper presents an optimization algorithm with the objective to minimize the emission levels and the production cost. A comparison of the results obtained with different optimization methods leads us to opt for the grey wolf optimizer technique (GWO) to use for solving the proposed objective function. First, the method used to estimate the wind power of a plant is presented. Second, the economic dispatch models for wind and thermal generators are presented followed by the emission dispatch model for the thermal units. Then, the proposed objective function is formulated. Finally, the simulation results obtained by applying the GWO and other known optimization techniques are analysed and compared.

Approximation of regression-based fault minimization for network traffic

10.12928/telkomnika.v18i4.13192
Chanintorn; Assumption University. Jittawiriyanukoon
This research associates three distinct approaches for computer network traffic prediction. They are the traditional stochastic gradient descent (SGD) using a few random samplings instead of the complete dataset for each iterative calculation, the gradient descent algorithm (GDA) which is a well-known optimization approach in Deep Learning, and the proposed method. The network traffic is computed from the traffic load (data and multimedia) of the computer network nodes via the Internet. It is apparent that the SGD is a modest iteration but can conclude suboptimal solutions. The GDA is a complicated one, can function more accurate than the SGD but difficult to manipulate parameters, such as the learning rate, the dataset granularity, and the loss function. Network traffic estimation helps improve performance and lower costs for various applications, such as an adaptive rate control, load balancing, the quality of service (QoS), fair bandwidth allocation, and anomaly detection. The proposed method confirms optimal values out of parameters using simulation to compute the minimum figure of specified loss function in each iteration.

The correlation in bone microstructure for ultrasound pulse echo technique is still less accurate compared to through transmission technique. Previous works demonstrated, reflected two modes wave has significant association with bone porosity. The paper aims is to conduct simulation using pulse echo technique to examine the relationship between fast and slow waves with porosity of 2-dimensional cancellous bone models by comparing the result to through transmission technique. The “incident” and “reflected” waves were separated using bandlimited deconvolution method by estimating time threshold of fast and slow waves' transfer function. The parameters of the waves were computed, plotted versus porosity for six different thicknesses and the correlation coefficients between them were compared. The incident and reflected fast wave attenuations show marginally significant correlation with porosity for both bone models orientations. Wave propagation for parallel orientation dominated by incident and reflected fast wave, meanwhile, perpendicular orientation dominated by incident slow wave. The thickness factor affected wave amplitude but less affected the attenuation. Because of propagation loss, reflected wave shows lower correlation to porosity compared to incident wave. Hence, analyzing fast and slow waves might improve the measurement accuracy of pulse echo technique compared to using single mode wave to estimate bone quality.

Fair and trustworthy: Lock-free enhanced tendermint blockchain algorithm

10.12928/telkomnika.v18i4.15701
Basem; Jazan University Assiri , Wazir Zada; Jazan University Khan
Blockchain Technology is exclusively used to make online transactions secure by maintaining a distributed and decentralized ledger of records across multiple computers. Tendermint is a general-purpose blockchain engine that is composed of two parts; Tendermint Core and the blockchain application interface. The application interface makes Tendermint suitable for a wide range of applications. In this paper, we analyze and improve Practical Byzantine Fault Tolerant (PBFT), a consensus-based Tendermint blockchain algorithm. In order to avoid negative issues of locks, we first propose a lock-free algorithm for blockchain in which the proposal and voting phases are concurrent whereas the commit phase is sequential. This consideration in the algorithm allows parallelism. Secondly, a new methodology is used to decide the size of the voter set which is a subset of blockchain nodes, further investigating the block sensitivity and trustworthiness of nodes. Thirdly, to fairly select the voter set nodes, we employ the random walk algorithm. Fourthly, we imply the wait-freedom property by using a timeout due to which all blocks are eventually committed or aborted. In addition, we have discussed voting conflicts and consensuses issues that are used as a correctness property, and provide some supportive techniques.

True power loss reduction by augmented mine blast algorithm

10.11591/ijict.v9i2.pp83-91
Kanagasabai Lenin
In this paper, Mine Blast Algorithm (MBA) has been intermingled with Harmony Search (HS) algorithm for solving optimal reactive power dispatch problem. MBA is based on explosion of landmines and HS is based on Creativeness progression of musicians – both are hybridized to solve the problem.  In MBA Initial distance of shrapnel pieces are reduced gradually to allow the mine bombs search the probable global minimum location in order to amplify the global explore capability. Harmony search (HS) imitates the music creativity process where the musicians supervise their instruments’ pitch by searching for a best state of harmony. Hybridization of Mine Blast Algorithm with Harmony Search algorithm (MH) improves the search effectively in the solution space. Mine blast algorithm improves the exploration and harmony search algorithm augments the exploitation. At first the proposed algorithm starts with exploration & gradually it moves to the phase of exploitation. Proposed Hybridized Mine Blast Algorithm with Harmony Search algorithm (MH) has been tested on standard IEEE 14, 300 bus test systems. Real power loss has been reduced considerably by the proposed algorithm. Then Hybridized Mine Blast Algorithm with Harmony Search algorithm (MH) tested in IEEE 30, bus system (with considering voltage stability index)- real power loss minimization, voltage deviation minimization, and voltage stability index enhancement has been attained.
