Decomposition of color wavelet with higher order statistical texture and convolutional neural network features set based classification of colorectal polyps from video endoscopy

Gastrointestinal cancer is one of the leading causes of death across the world. The gastrointestinal polyps are considered as the precursors of developing this malignant cancer. In order to condense the probability of cancer, early detection and removal of colorectal polyps can be cogitated. The most used diagnostic modality for colorectal polyps is video endoscopy. But the accuracy of diagnosis mostly depends on doctors' experience that is crucial to detect polyps in many cases. Computer-aided polyp detection is promising to reduce the miss detection rate of the polyp and thus improve the accuracy of diagnosis results. The proposed method first detects polyp and non-polyp then illustrates an automatic polyp classification technique from endoscopic video through color wavelet with higher-order statistical texture feature and Convolutional Neural Network (CNN). Gray Level Run Length Matrix (GLRLM) is used for higher-order statistical texture features of different directions (Ɵ = 0o, 45o, 90o, 135o). The features are fed into a linear support vector machine (SVM) to train the classifier. The experimental result demonstrates that the proposed approach is auspicious and operative with residual network architecture, which triumphs the best performance of accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity of 98.83%, 97.87%, and 99.13% respectively for classification of colorectal polyps on standard public endoscopic video databases.

Improved handoff mechanism for infiltrating user equipments in composite networks

The wireless technology and communication plays a vital role in our daily life. The end users are expecting more Quality of Experience (QOE) rather than the Quality of Service (QOS). In order to provide full signal coverage the entire cellular network coverage is divided in to small cells called as femtocells, those femtocells are covered with femtocell antennas which are very small in size compared with regular antennas. With these femtocell coverage problem is solved but when a user moves from one location to another location the user has to switch from one base station to so many base station which cannot be maintained with present handoff methods. The present hand off methods working on distance calculation approach, the proposed method is based on the velocity and device direction calculated based on GPS location toward the Base Station (BS) of the device which may ping pong handoff effect.

Fault detection and location of power transmission lines using intelligent distance relay

The aim of this paper is to design a three-phase distance relay using an adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system algorithm (ANFIS). The proposed relay is used to protect the power transmission lines where they are subjected to faults continuously. These faults may produce a high electric current which leads to high damage in power system equipment. The relay is used to detect the transmission line faults by measuring the voltage and current values for each phase. The line impedance is then calculated to detect the faults and issue instantaneous trip signal to circuit breaker, to separate the fault zone of the transmission line without affecting the work of other relays. To isolate the faulty line without affecting the other lines within the network the relays were trained using adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS). The obtained results through this work show that the designated distance relay with (ANFIS) algorithm has the ability to detect the faults occurrence, recognize it from the cases of the disturbance and to isolate only the fault zone without affecting the work of other relays in system.

3D Bio-printer is said to have potential in the applications of medical studies and tissue engineering. A 3D Bio-printer could be used to print the artificial organs for organs transplant and cell tissue culture for generating new cell tissue. It could help in future medical and biological research. This paper presents the development process, i.e. working principle of Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM), mechanical, electrical and related applied software, of a 3D Bio-printer using syringe-based extruder and Core XY mechanism. Up to date, FDM is a popular technique because it is easily implemented, precise and accurate. The printed product revealed high repeativity, where (sample mean, sample standard deviation) is (  mm. The procedure could help future customized 3D Bio-printer.

Improvement of adaptive fuzzy control to adjust speed for a doubly fed induction motor drive (DFIM)

This paper presents the doubly fed induction motor (DFIM) speed control using adaptive fuzzy logic PI (AFLPI) controller to give better dynamic performances. Before the advent of modern technology, integral proportional based current controller is usually used due to its simplicity. But, the performance of closed-loop control is largely influenced by this type of speed and torque controllers used, as long as the PI controllers suffer from tuning problem. To overcome the problem, a new technique AFLPI based speed controller for direct field oriented control fed DFIM to get fast speed response and to minimize the torque ripple. The application of this type of control is very satisfactory to replace the conventional PI controller and, even the fuzzy logic PI (FLPI) controller. The performance of the field oriented controlled DFIM drive has simulated at different operating conditions using the AFLPI controller and the obtained results are compared with FLPI controller and conventional PI controller. Accordingly, an improvement in dynamic and robustness is clearly appears in AFLPI controller simulation results compared to the others aforementioned controllers. Simulation Results are presented for the three techniques using Matlab/Simulink to prove the dynamic performances and robustness.

A SIMSCAPE based design of a dual maximum power point tracker of a stand-alone photovoltaic system

This paper presents the simulation of a dual maximum power point tracker (dual-MPPT) and attempt to get the global maximum power point GMPP under partial shading conditions for a solar photovoltaic module using MATLAB SIMSCAPE. Traditional single MPP trackers are less efficient than dual MPP trackers and have greater sensitivity to partial shading. By using dual MPP trackers, one can get several features such as the possibility of connecting two arrays with different string sizes or different solar azimuths or tilts within high efficiency. This paper focuses on making the photovoltaic system work at maximum possible power under partial shading condition by using dual MPP trackers to achieve the convergence toward the global maximum power point GMPP.

Design and implement of pulse width modulation with low-cost hardware in the loop

The paper presents a low-cost hardware in the loop based on Arduino. Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation (SPWM) designing, analyzing, and implementation is experimented as hardware in the loop. Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation implementation via MATLAB\Simulation demonstrates in this work. In this paper, Arduino Mega2560 platform, microcontroller, introduce as hardware. A comparative study of the both techniques is presented. Arduino interfaces with PC Target MATLAB environment. Three phases Voltage Source Inverter directs by the generated pulses that loads with three phases RLC. The obtaining output current and voltage waveform of RLC load of Hardware-in-the-Loop validates to the MATLAB\simulation output waveform. The compering shows the output waveforms are primarily having the same pattern. Arduino consider as the lost cost as microcontroller which could be used in real application.

A performance comparison of transformer-less grid tied PV system using diode clamped and neutral point shorted inverters

Grid tied photovoltaic (PV) system is an operation mode of PV system working together with utility power supply to provide power to the power load. Conventionally, transformer is used together with the power inverter. The power transformer works as galvanic insolation amongst PV system and power grid. It works also to raise the voltage of power inverter. However, use of transformer will add system complexity, price, weight and size of the entire system. Transformer-less system is an alternative to make the system simpler and more practical in use. The paper discusses performance of transformer-less grid tied PV systems using diode clamped and neutral point shorted inverters. Effects of transformer elimination to the feat of the grid tied PV system especially harmonics content and leakage current of PV system were examined and analyzed. The performance was also compared with the traditional system using H-bridge inverter. The leakage currents did not flow in the system applying diode clamped inverter, and neutral point shorted inverter. In case of harmonics content, the diode clamped inverter injected less harmonics components than the neutral point shorted inverter. The neutral point shorted provides a simpler inverter circuit in the transformerless systems.

Life-cycle assessment of residential-scale grid-connected photovoltaic system in Malaysia based on monocrystalline silicon modules

Even though PV systems have been promoted as a green form of electrification, such systems are still contributing to environmental impacts after considering life-cycle impact during material extraction, manufacturing processes of its components, installation, operation, and maintenance. This paper presents a life-cycle assessment to quantify the environmental impact of residential-scale grid-connected PV systems in Malaysia using monocrystalline silicon PV module. LCA had been carried out by using OpenLCA 1.8 software, Ecoinvent 3.5 database, and impact assessment method of IMPACT2002+ and CED. The influence of varying system capacity from 3 to 12 kWp, system lifetime of 21, 25 and 30 years, and solar irradiation of 1560.8, 1651.8, & 1935.5 kWh/m2/yr, were investigated. The results revealed that the greenhouse gas emissions rate, cumulative energy demand, and energy payback time of residential-scale grid-connected PV systems in Malaysia ranged from 37.97 to 67.26 g CO2-eq/kWh, 4387.10 to 4699.99 MJ/m2, and 6.37 to 7.90 years, respectively. This study also evaluated indicators of energy return on investment. The overall finding implies that the installation of residential-scale grid-connected PV systems in Malaysia offers significant potential for GHG emissions reduction in the country.

Bio-inspired route estimation in cognitive radio networks

Cognitive radio is a technique that was originally created for the proper use of the radio electric spectrum due its underuse. A few methods were used to predict the network traffic to determine the occupancy of the spectrum and then use the ‘holes’ between the transmissions of primary users. The goal is to guarantee a complete transmission for the second user while not interrupting the trans-mission of primary users. This study seeks the multifractal generation of traffic for a specific radio electric spectrum as well as a bio-inspired route estimation for secondary users. It uses the MFHW algorithm to generate multifractal traces and two bio-inspired algo-rithms: Ant Colony Optimization and Max Feeding to calculate the secondary user’s path. Multifractal characteristics offer a predic-tion, which is 10% lower in comparison with the original traffic values and a complete transmission for secondary users. In fact, a hybrid strategy combining both bio-inspired algorithms promise a reduction in handoff. The purpose of this research consists on deriving future investigation in the generation of multifractal traffic and a mobility spectrum using bio-inspired algorithms.

Asymmetric hybrid multilevel inverter with reduced harmonic using hybrid modulation technique

This paper studies the Asymmetric cascaded three phase multilevel inverter developed with hybrid modulation technique applied for an industrial application. The aim of this paper to reduce the Total harmonics distortion in the cascaded multi level inverter by introducing the new concept to develop the three phase CMLI. This inverter has two segments, one segment has H-bridge inverter and another segment has sequential arrangement of power semi conductor switches with asymmetrical voltage source in the ratio of 1:2. Similarly develop the segments for other phases. This new topology is called as Hybrid MLI. This hybrid MLI is used to reduce the no of semiconductor device requirement and the Total harmonics distortion.  The inverter is controlled by Phase disposition (PD) and alternative phase opposition disposition PWM technique (APOD). This control technique is used to minimize the current harmonic and increase the system performance. The circuit is simulated using Matlab circuit and its performance is compared using PD and APOD PWM techniques and verified with simulation results.

A simulation study of video conferencing system over IEEE 802.11n Wireless LAN

Wireless local area network (WLAN) is the core of the classic wireless communications systems and owns the infrastructure which wide spreads in many regions in the world. IEEE 802.11n is an attractive standard of WLAN and offers a data capacity of the cell. This paper estimates the maximum limits of the IEEE 802.11n standard cell as a term of number of users which are successfully served by the cell in case of video conference application. The results shown that, the cell of 802.11n could serve about 9 users under the service of video conference in case of 20MHz channel bandwidth before congestion occurs while the 40MHz channel could support 18 users.

Dynamics of trunk type robot with spherical piezoelectric actuators

Trunk type robots (TTRs) are exclusive. These robots can provide a high level of maneuverability and have a potential in medicine or high risk zones. TTRs are determined as a long serial linkage of similar segments. They are usually connected using tendons or small actuators. A spherical actuator is the most appreciable option. The motion of real spherical actuator (RSA) can be easily obtained applying an inverse piezoelectric effect. It has three independent spinning axes. These axes are perpendicular to each other despite the history of excitation. Kinematics and dynamics of RSA almost have no basics regardless of mentioned features. This situation can be explained according to common disadvantages of other SAs: sophisticated structure and complex control. The structures and abilities of TTRs are reviewed in the first section of this article. At the beginning of the fourth section the kinematics of piezoelectric TTR with two different RSAs is introduced. Its results of inverse dynamics using Euler-Lagrange equations are presented at the end of the fourth section. Similar results are derived using an analytical-potential method in the fifth section. It is quite accurate and effective option to determine inverse dynamics of the TTR employing an analytical-potential method.

Analysis of fuzzy logic controller based bi-directional DC-DC converter for battery energy management in hybrid solar/wind micro grid system

This paper proposes a fuzzy logic-based battery energy management system in hybrid renewable system. The novel topology consists of solar and wind energy system-based input sources and a battery bank to store the energy when in excess. The PV-Wind source is equipped with unidirectional boost converter whereas, the battery storage system is connected to the system with a bi-directional DC/DC converter. The main novelty of this research is the fuzzy logic-based battery management system which charges and discharges into the DC bus system based on the supply-load demand. The fuzzy logic controller (FLC) based maximum power point tracking (MPPT) is used in the PV and wind energy conversion system (WECS) to track the maximum available power for the different irradiance and wind velocity respectively. The obtained results are compared to conventional P&O MPPT control algorithm to find the effectiveness of the system. A 500 W PV system and a 500 W Permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) based WECS is implemented for its simplicity and high efficiency. The proposed control topology is designed and tested using MATLAB/Simulink

Fuzzy logic controller design for PUMA 560 robot manipulator

The dynamic model of the robot manipulator contain from equations, these equations are nonlinear and contained from variations parameters due to variations in load, friction, and disturbance. The conventional computed torque (PD and PID) controllers are not highly suitable for nonlinear, complex, time-variant systems with delay. In this paper, the fuzzy logic controllers (FLC) has been used because it is efficient tools for control of nonlinear and uncertain parameters systems. This paper aims to design a fuzzy logic controller for position control of a PUMA 560 robot manipulator. Based on simulation results we conclude that the performance of the fuzzy logic controller in term of position tracking error in case of disturbance or load is better than the conventional computed torque (PD-CTC and PID-CTC) controllers.
