High speed transmission of signal level for white light emitting diode (LED) as a transmitter device by using modified phase equalization

10.11591/ijeecs.v17.i3.pp1348-1354
Maad Mohsin Mijwil
Visible light communication (VLC) also known as "Li-Fi", uses standard LEDs to transmit data such as information, images, music, and videos. The first LED was developed in 1927 by Oleg Vladimírovich Lósev (1903-1942), however it was not used in the industry until the 1960s.In this paper, will describe the implementation of Modified Phase Equalization (MPH) on visible white LED lamps signal because it's has slow transition time that severely limits in the communication system data speeds with phase equalization that increases the bandwidth of the LED modulation. Employ two filters with Modified Phase Equalization: first, Complementary (C) filter to combine between all kinds moving signals and second, finite impulse response (FIR) filter to obtain all coefficients that respective. Implementation in two phases: first, frequency 150KHz with number of signals 15000 signals and second, doubling frequency 300KHz with number of signals 30000 signals of LEDs without losing their main functionality as illumination sources.

10.11591/ijpeds.v11.i1.pp326-332
Chong Wan Xin , Wong Jee Keen Raymond , Hazlee Azil Illias , Lai Weng Kin , Yiauw Kah Haur
Partial discharge (PD) pattern recognition is useful to diagnose insulation condition. PD measurement data is commonly represented in phase-resolved partial discharge (PRPD) format. PRPD is useful as it provides a visible pattern for different PD source and various features can be extracted for PD pattern recognition. Shorter PRPD duration will enable more training data but the information in each data is less and vice versa. This works aims to investigate the effects of using very short duration PRPD data on the accuracy of PD pattern recognition. The results conclude that machine learning models such as Artificial Neural Network (ANN) and Support Vector Machine (SVM) are robust enough such that reduction of PRPD duration from 15-seconds to 1-second causes less than 5 % drop in the classification accuracy. However, this is only true for noise free condition. When the same PD data is overlapped with random noise, the classification accuracy suffers a significant reduction up to 19%. Therefore, longer PRPD duration is recommended to withstand the effects of noise contamination.

Suhaili Ikhsan , Nur Husna Abd Wahid , Nor Hidayah Mustafa
Realizing that each human being is naturally gifted with numerous talents, the Akademi Bakat ABS is set up to uphold this value through its unique curriculum, approach, and eco-system in the school. Till date, 75% of the learning program is based on learning-by-doing approach. The core vision is to nurture the students’ inner-self with the 6 values of entrepreneurship i.e. social intelligence, integrity, altruism, creative and innovative, diplomacy, and righteousness since pre-school and hence, leverage the mindset, behaviour, and subsequently the cultural value of entrepreneurship among the students. With the aim to be an alternative school that will confront the future education, particularly in view of the Malaysian education landscape, the philosophy lies in the concept of being an independent thinker rather than consumer thinker. Only then, the element of creative thinking can be cultivated which is crucial in economic development as well as novel development in terms of technologies, products, and systems. Akademi Bakat ABS believed, with all the virtues it holds, the possibility to overcome on the overwhelmed issue of graduates’ unemployability and incompetency in human skill can be achieved in all respect especially in confronting the Industrial Revolution 4.0 agenda. Finally, with support from each segment of the society (students, teachers, parents, ministry, industries, etc.), Akademi Bakat ABS sees itself as an industrial player that can holistically benefit the Malaysian education eco-system.

Ani Susanti , Utami Widiati , Bambang Yudi Cahyono
This study aimed to know if students who work in heterogeneous (HET) pairs have significantly better writing ability than those who experience working in homogenous (HOM) pairs. This study involved two intact classes that consist of 40 EFL students taking the Intermediate Reading and Writing course in the English Education Department in one of the large private universities in Indonesia. This study employed a causal-comparative design and lasted for twelve meetings including pretest and posttest. The two groups of HET pairs and HOM pairs experienced collaborative writing activities following the steps of the Genre-based Approach. The data were collected through writing pre-test and post-test. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Mann Whitney to compare the students’ post-test scores. The findings show that both high and low proficiency students who experienced collaborative writing in homogenous proficiency pairings have better writing ability than those who experienced collaborative writing in heterogeneous proficiency pairings. This indicates that pair collaboration can support language learning more optimally when there are no large proficiency gaps among pairs.

This document is a contribution to improve the quality of electrical energy in the distribution network. In this article we will present a method that allows us to clean up in a very considerable way the electrical network of both harmonics and inter harmonics provoked, basically by the ultrafast switches used when controlling a PWM inverter supplying a three-phase asynchronous motor. We notice that this method can be generalized for other loads creating inter-harmonics.This proposed method was simulated using the MATLAB/SIMULINK software and had given remarkable results (there is a considerable reduction in total harmonic distortion (THD) of source current from 29.52% to 0.82%)

The output characteristics of the photovoltaic (PV) installation normally depend on solar radiation and ambient temperature, the charge impedance, its maximum power point (MPP) is not constant. In each state of the PV module has a point where it can produce its MPP. Therefore, MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) methods can be used to keep the photovoltaic panel running on its MPP. In this article, the objective was to determine how the different maximum point power monitoring (MPPT) techniques applied to PV systems work. Therefore, two MPPT algorithms are presented and compared under different temperature and radiation conditions: MRAC methods and sliding mode controller combined with the Incremental Conductivity (IC) algorithm. These algorithms are widely used in PV systems because of their easy implementation and low cost. These techniques were analyzed and their performance evaluated using the PSIM software under different types of solar radiation and temperature.

10.11591/ijpeds.v11.i1.pp213-219
Vladimir L. Kodkin , Aleksandr Sergeevich Anikin , Aleksander Aleksandrovich Baldenkov
The article is a continuation of the authors' work in research, mainly experimental, asynchronous electric drives with frequency regulation (AED FR) of hoisting-and-transport mechanisms, in which for constructive, operational and other reasons it is difficult to install additional sensors, for example encoders. The results of the analysis of the dynamics of AED FR with two types of sensorless control: vector and scalar are presented in this article. The study was conducted by mathematical modeling in the Simulink application of the MatLab software using standard control system models. The processes of sequential acceleration of the engine to fixed speeds with overload and load shedding on each of them were simulated. At the same time, the speed and effective values of the flux linkages of the rotor and stator and the stator current were monitored, by which the dynamics and efficiency of each type of control were evaluated. As in experimental studies, the dynamic and efficiency of a more stable scalar control was significantly improved by the use of dynamic positive feedback on stator current.

Renewable energies evaluation and linking to smart grid

10.11591/ijpeds.v11.i1.pp107-118
Benouaz Idriss Yassine , Allaoua Boumediene
To tackle the widespread challenges encountered during the management of power flow in electrical networks, the integration of smart grid (S.G)is proposed as a viable solution to address the environmental and economic concerns. In order to enhance overall functionality of the electric power delivery system, operation of the smart grid is governed by data-driven algorithms where various sensors and smart meters are used to collect this data. On other hand, the fluctuating cost of fossil fuels and its negative impact on the environment has incentivized the exploitation of renewable energies in the smart grid. In the present paper, a hybrid Photovoltaic/Wind (PV/Wind) is suggested to supply a smart grid. The objective of this study is to asses the feasibility of a smart grid supplied solely by renewable energy sources. Conceptual standings of this newly suggested model are validated by simulations.

The paper proposes, a decentralized constrained optimal control of the multimachine power system stability. Today’s power network conditions, operating closer to their limits. Alternative Current power grids are more vulnerable and subject to instability than ever before. A three machine power system and four machines, power system connected with a transmission line lossy. Nonlinear controllers are more complex structure and inflexible to be used in practice paralleled with a linear controller. The linearized dynamical equations of the multimachine power system are near to an equilibrium point and it can be stabilized by using a decentralized constrained controller based on optimal control. The feedback controller, which comprises independent control stations receives the measurement data and influences the control input of the machine is only attached to the subsystems. State feedback controller guarantees the closed-loop system is asymptotically stable can guarantee the performance index. It bases designed controlled systems on the algebraic Riccati equations and all its poles are in the closed left half-plane. Decentralized constrained optimal control of the multimachine power system is achieved through simulation of the results. This achievement of results is proposed by improves power system stability.

Frequency response analysis (FRA) method has been proven to detect the transformer winding damage. However, there is no practical study which investigates the damages on transformer tap changer even though it has a high failure rate. Hence, this paper investigates normal and faulty transformer tap changer using FRA. The FRA measurements conducted using four different test configurations. Also, normal tap changer, pitting and coking tap changer contact were investigated. In addition to FRA measurement, winding resistance measurement has been conducted. The transformer turn ratio measurement also conducted to identify the taps positions. This study results significant to understand the effect of pitting and coking tap changer on the transformer frequency response. The results showed that pitting has a slight influence on the frequency response. However, coking shows a huge variation in low-frequency response. This effect observed during the winding resistance measurement.

This work is dedicated to the study of an improved direct torque control of the doubly fed induction motor (DFIM). The control method adopts direct torque control 'DTC' because of its various advantages like the ease of implementation which allows a good performance at transient and steady state without PI regulators and rotating coordinate transformations. To do this, the modeling of the motor is performed. Subsequently, an explanation of the said command is spread out as well as the principle of adjusting the flux and the electromagnetic torque according to the desired speed. Then, the estimation method of these two control variables will be presented as well as the adopted switching table of the hysteresis controller model used based on the model of the multilevel inverters. Finally, the robustness of the developed system will be analyzed with validation in Matlab/Simulink environment to illustrate the performance of this control.

Implementation of the conventional seven-level single-phase symmetrical cascaded h-bridge MLI based on PSIM

10.11591/ijpeds.v11.i1.pp169-177
Hassan Salman Hamad
Researchers have found interest in the multilevel inverters (MLI) owing to the low total harmonic distortion (THD) associated with their output voltage, as well as their low electromagnetic interference (EMI). The MLI represents an effective and feasible solution for enhancing power demand and minimizing AC waveforms’ harmonics as they generate a preferred level of output voltage as inputs from varying levels of DC voltages. In this paper, the performance of a seven-level cascaded H-bridge MLI with an asymmetrical number of power switches was evaluated. The simulation performance is shown to validate the operating principle of the single-phase cascaded H-bridge inverter. To control the MLI, a pulse width modulation approach was utilized. The operating principle of the MLI was verified via simulation using PSIM software.
