Jonathan Acharya
Sleep plays an important role as it helps human body to rejuvenate, boosts mental function and manage stress. Sleep is restorative function which enhances muscle growth, repairs tissues, maintains health and make physical appearance look or feel better. The lack of sleep in human body can increase the risk of diseases which are asthma, diabetes, depression. For healthy physiological function, sleep is essential and has strong relation to mental condition. Easy way of sleep management is considered for maintaining good mental health. Numerous scientists, doctors and researchers have proposed various ways to monitor sleep, some of those best tests are polysomnography test and actigraphy test. However, taking sleep test covering the whole body with wires and electrodes which is polysomnography test is uncomfortable for patients, and sensors used for different approaches like this are costly and often require overnight treatment and expert monitoring in clinics. Therefore, easy way of detecting roll-over movements which is convenient for patients to wear is proposed. Accelerometer ADXL335 sensor is taped on socks during sleep which is comfortable for patients to wear and do not cause any inconvenience during sleep. Algorithm is proposed to read the dataset and count the roll-over during the sleep based on threshold. Resulting the number of roll-over detected during a sleep period.

This paper introduces a new design of a cross-coupled microstrip bandpass filter (MBPF) based on hairpin defected ground structure (DGS) resonators using accurate coupling matrix (CM) technique for microwave communication systems. The paper describes the equivalent circuit of the proposed MBPF based on the DGS equivalent circuit model derived from the equivalent inductance and capacitance which occur due to the perturbation of the current in the ground plane by the presence of the slots. The paper investigates also the different external coupling mechanisms that the feed configuration affects significantly the filter response. In this paper, a four order Chebyshev topology has been adopted for designing the filter to suppress harmonics and achieve a very compact size and a wide stopband with two transmission zeros.

In modern power system operation and planning, reactive power is an important part of power system operation to supply electrical load such as an electric motor. However, the reactive current that flows from the generator to load demand can cause voltage drop and active power loss. Hence, it is essential to install a compensating device such as a shunt capacitor close to the load bus to reduce the total power loss of the transmission line and improve the voltage stability of the system. This paper presents the application of a genetic algorithm (GA), particle swarm optimization (PSO), and artificial bee colony (ABC)) to obtain the optimal size of the shunt capacitor where those capacitors are located on the critical bus. To examine the efficacy of the proposed algorithm, Java-Madura-Bali (JAMALI) 500kV power system grid is used as the test system. From the simulation results, the use of PSO and ABC algorithms to obtain the sizing of the capacitor’s capacity can reduce the power loss of around 15.873 MW. Moreover, a different result is showed by the GA approach where the power loss in the JAMALI 500kV power grid can be compressed only up to 15.54 MW or 11.38% from the power system operation without a shunt capacitor. The three soft computing techniques could also maintain the voltage profile within 1.05 p.u and 0.95 p.u.

Group development is an initial step and an important influence on learning collaborative problem solving (CPS) based on the digital learning environment (DLE). Group development based on the Myers-Briggs types indicators (MBTI) rule proved successful for the educational and industrial environment. The MBTI ideal group rules are reached when a group leader has the highest level of leadership and compatibility between group members. The level of leadership and suitability of group members is determined based on the MBTI learning style (LS). Problems arise when the population of MBTI LS with the highest level of leadership is over. This will lead to dual leadership problems and have an impact on group disharmony. This study proposes an intelligent agent software for the development of the ideal group of MBTI, using the Fuzzy algorithm. The intelligent agent was developed on the SKACI platform. SKACI is a DLE for CPS learning. Fuzzy algorithm for solving dual leadership problems in a group. Fuzzy algorithm is used to increase the population of MBTI LS to 3 levels, namely low, medium and high. Increasing the population of MBTI LS can increase the probability of forming an ideal group of MBTI. Intelligent agents are tested based on a quantitative analysis between experimental classes (applying intelligent agents), and control classes (without intelligent agents). Experiment results show an increase in performance and productivity is better in the experimental class than in the control class. It was concluded that the development of intelligent agents had a positive impact on group development based on the MBTI LS.

Three-dimensional structure from motion recovery of a moving object with noisy measurement

10.11591/ijece.v10i1.pp117-128
Zoubaida Mejri , Lilia Sidhom , Afef Abdelkrim
In this paper, a Nonlinear Unknown Input Observer (NLUIO) based approach is proposed for three-dimensional (3-D) structure from motion identification. Unlike the previous studies that require prior knowledge of either the motion parameters or scene geometry, the proposed approach assumes that the object motion is imperfectly known and considered as an unknown input to the perspective dynamical system. The reconstruction of the 3-D structure of the moving objects can be achieved using just two-dimensional (2-D) images of a monocular vision system. The proposed scheme is illustrated with a numerical example in the presence of measurement noise for both static and dynamic scenes. Those results are used to clearly demonstrate the advantages of the proposed NLUIO.

Microgrid energy systems are one of suitable solutions to the available problems in power systems such as energy losses, and resiliency issues. Local generation by these energy systems can reduce the role of the upstream network, which is a challenge in risky conditions. Also, uncertain behavior of electricity consumers and generating units can make the optimization problems sophisticated. So, uncertainty modeling seems to be necessary. In this paper, in order to model the uncertainty of generation of photovoltaic systems, a scenario-based model is used, while the robust optimization method is used to study the uncertainty of load. Moreover, the stochastic scheduling is performed to model the uncertain nature of renewable generation units. Time-of–use rates of demand response program (DRP) is also utilized to improve the system economic performance in different operating conditions. Studied problem is modeled using a mixed-integer linear programming (MILP). The general algebraic modeling system (GAMS) package is used to solve the proposed problem. A sample microgrid is studied and the results with DRP and without DRP are compared. It is shown that same robustness is achieved with a lower increase in the operation cost using DRP.

This paper presents the design and optimization of image compression and ciphering depend on optimized embedded zero tree of wavelet (EZW) techniques. Nowadays, the compression and ciphering of image have become particularly important in a protected image storage and communication. The challenge is put in application for both compression and encryption where the parameters of images such as quality and size are critical in secure image transmission. A new technique for secure image storage and transmission is proposed in this work. The compression is achieved by remodel the EZW scheme combine with discrete cosine transform (DCT). Encrypted the XOR ten bits by initial threshold of EZW with random bits produced from linear-feedback shift register (LFSR). The obtained result shows that the suggested techniques provide acceptable compression ratio, reduced the computational time for both compression and encryption, immunity against the statistical and the frequency attacks.

10.12928/telkomnika.v18i1.13639
Basma Nazar; Mustansiriyah University Nadhim , Sarab Kamal; Mustansiriyah University Mahmood
In this study, the multicast mobile ad hoc (MANET) CRN has been developed, which involves multi-hop and multilayer consideration and Steiner minimal tree (SMT) algorithm is employed as the router protocol. To enhance the network performance with regards to throughput and packet delivery rate (PDR), as channel assignment scheme, the probability of success (POS) is employed that accounts for the channel availability and the time needed for transmission when selecting the best channel from the numerous available channels for data transmission from the source to all destinations nodes effectively. Within Rayleigh fading channels under various network parameters, a comparison is done for the performance of SMT multicast (MANET) CRN with POS scheme versus maximum data rate (MDR), maximum average spectrum availability (MASA) and random channel assignment schemes. Based on the simulation results, the SMT multicast (MANET) CRN with POS scheme was seen to demonstrate the best performance versus other schemes. Also the results proved that the throughput and PDR performance are improved as the number the primary channels and the channel’s bandwidth increased while dropped as the value of packet size D increased. The network’s performance grew with rise in the value of idle probability (P_I) since the primary user’s (PU) traffic load is low when the value of P_I is high.
