10.11591/ijpeds.v10.i3.pp1529-1537
Soeprapto Soeprapto , Rini Nur Hasanah , Taufik Taufik
Electric bike (E-Bike) is a bicycle driven using an electric motor and uses batteries as the energy source. It is environmentally friendly as no exhaust gas is resulted during its operation. More than one battery is normally required, being arranged in series or in parallel connection. Over limit or overloaded conditions of battery usage will reduce the lifecycle of battery, speed up its replacement and add to the maintenance cost of electric bike. This paper proposes the prevention of such degrading condition using a tool to manage the battery usage both during the charging and discharging process. The proposed electronic Battery Management System (BMS) serves to regulate, monitor, and maintain the condition of batteries to prevent any possible damage. The resulted BMS design could provide a well balancing action in a battery system consisting of 13 cells utilizing the cell-to-cell active balancing method. The test results showed that the proposed BMS could monitor the individual cell voltage with an average error of 0.032 V (0.824%), while reading the charge and discharge current with an average error of 0.04 A (6.25%), and the battery pack temperature with an average error of 1.21oC (2.9%). Additionally, the BMS could offer a functional battery pack protection system from conditions such as undervoltage, overvoltage, overheat, and overcurrent.

Experimental Verification of Three phase quasi Switched Boost Inverter with an Improved PWM Control

10.11591/ijpeds.v10.i3.pp1500-1509
Sriramalakshmi Palanidoss , Sreedevi V.T.
In this paper, an experimental investigation of a three phase quasi Switched Boost Inverter (qSBI) topology is proposed and analysed with an improved Pulse Width Modulation strategy. The qSBI is capable of providing both boost and inversion actions in a single stage. The improved PWM control technique can provide a higher boost with the reduced duty ratio. The theoretical analysis presented in this work is validated using an experimental set up of 100W qSBI topology and hardware results are shown for verification. The improved PWM strategy is implemented and firing pulses are generated in FPGA SPARTAN 3E kit. With the duty ratio of 0.05, the peak ac load voltage of 80 V is obtained. The performance of three phase qSBI is analysed with both conventional PWM strategy and improved PWM strategy. The observations are presentated in detail.

In this paper, Pseudo Hadamard Transformation (PHT) and non-chaotic substitution based image encryption scheme has been proposed. Images are characterized by intrinsic properties such as, strong redundancy and correlation between the adjacent pixels, hence more vulnerable to cyber-attacks. In the proposed technique, the redundancy and correlation have been effectively reduced by pixel position transformation using PHT and pixel value variation using non chaotic substitution, providing two stage security in encryption for images. Fifteen standard test images are considered for experimental analysis. Better average Number of Pixel Changing Rate (NPCR) and Unified Average pixel Changing Intensity (UACI) are obtained for a set of standard test images compared to more popular existing algorithms.

Risky teenager behavior in a vocational high school

10.11591/ijere.v8i3.20241
Suci Musvita Ayu , Marsiana Wibowo , Liena Sofiana
Adolescence is a very complex period. Various teen problems haunt when they grow up to become adults. The same teenagers successfully face the challenges of their development so that they are free from a variety of risky behaviors. However, some of them also smoke, consume alcohol, have free sex, commit violence, and use drugs. This research is a qualitative study with a phenomenological approach in which researchers explore and try some risky behaviors in health and factors that influence and how adolescents in vocational high schools end up committing some risky behavior. The results of the study show that teens who do not have risky behavior and who do have some risk behaviors have different understandings related to the impact of these behaviors. People around teenagers influence how teenagers will behave. These influential people can cause teenagers to take risky behavior, such as family problems, get bad examples from parents, family members, peers, and idols. Factors that influence adolescents to end up committing risky behavior are the understanding of the negative effects of risk behavior. The various causes of influential people include parents, peers, religious leaders, idols, perceived benefits, self-control, and intention. The internal and external factors of adolescents determine whether the teenager will do or not risky behavior. Strong collaboration between internal and external factors shapes behavior which is not risky in adolescents, and vice versa.

The broken rotor bar is an unexpected fault and a common cause of induction motor failures that threaten the structural integrity of electric machines. In this paper, a new approach to a broken rotor bar diagnosis, without slip estimation, based on the envelope of the stator instantaneous complex apparent power (SICAP) is proposed. The envelope is obtained from the SICAP modulation and then transferred to a computer for monitoring the characteristic frequency and its amplitude using the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT). For this purpose, the winding function approach (WFA) is used to simulate the broken rotor bar occurrence in a squirrel cage induction motor (SCIM) fed on direct torque control (DTC). The obtained simulation results confirm the interest and efficiency of the proposed technique. Even when the induction motor is operating at the no-load level condition, the proposed method is also efficient to detect the broken rotor bar fault at low slip.

10.11591/ijeecs.v15.i3.pp1485-1490
Naif Alsowaidi , Tawfig Eltaif , Mohd Ridzuan Mokhtar
A hybrid optical CDMA-DWDM system accommodating 12 optical CDMA users carried by 5 DWDM wavelengths at a data rate of 60Gb/s/wavelength with channel spacing of 0.4nm is implemented under the effect of four-wave mixing (FWM). It was found that the FWM effect could be minimized by the use of CDMA technology, where the energy of each bit is spread over the optical sequence code. Over a distance of 105.075km, significant performance of all optical CDMA users in terms of the BER is achieved. The results reveal that the inter-symbol interference (ISI) can be mitigated when the interval of optical signature sequence code is squeezed into 25% of the bit duration.

In this paper, Reduced-Order Observer For Real-Time Implementation Speed Sensorless Control of Induction Using RT-LAB Softwareis presented. Speed estimation is performed through a reduced-order observer. The stability of the proposed observer is proved based on Lyapunov’s theorem. The model is initially built offline using Matlab/Simulink and implemented in real-time environment using RT-LAB package and an OP5600 digital simulator. RT-LAB configuration has two main subsystems master and console subsystems. These two subsystems were coordinated to achieve the real-time simulation. In order to verify the feasibility and effectiveness of proposed method, experimental results are presented over a wide speed range, including zero speed.

In recent years, the demand for energy generated by photovoltaics has increased because of the cheapness of this energy, especially in the Middle East. This study focuses on the design and implementation of a three-phase photovoltaic inverter system for distribution of generator applications. The three-phase inverter used in this study was designed using GWM 100-01X1 as a three-phase full bridge MOSFET package. The MOSFET full bridge of the three-phase inverter is driven using IR2104 gate driver IC, and the Hall sensors of the voltage and current are used to measure the AC and DC voltage and current. The SPWM signal is generated using a PIC24FJ256GB110 as a microcontroller and interfaced to the full bridge package. Simulation and experimental results are presented to validate the three-phase inverter design.

Linda Hassaine , Mohamed Rida Bengourina
This paper presents the optimization design and a detailed implementation in FPGA (Field-Programmable Gate Array) of a power control strategy. This strategy is based on the phase shift angle of the inverter output voltage with respect to the grid voltage and DSPWM (Digital Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation) patterns “Phase shift angle-DSPWM” for an inverter for photovoltaic system connected to the grid. The proposed control can synchronize a sinusoidal inverter output current with a grid voltage and control the power injected into the grid. Detailed development of a digital controller with lower hardware and computation requirement is proposed. Description on the digital implementation of the A/D converter, the PI compensator, the phase shift and the DPWM, is provided. This digital control exhibit simplicity, reduction of the memory requirements and power calculation for the control. The functional structure of this system with digital control has been validated with simulations and experimental results.

This paper proposed a new analysis technique of brain tumor segmentation and classification for Fluid Attenuated Inversion Recovery (FLAIR) Magnetic Resonance Images (MRI). 25 FLAIR MRI images were collected from online database of Multimodal Brain Tumor Segmentation Challenge 2015 (BRaTS’15).  The analysis comprised four stages which are preprocessing, segmentation, feature extraction and classification. Fuzzy C-Means (FCM) was proposed for brain tumor segmentation. Mean, median, mode, standard deviation, area and perimeter were calculated and utilized as the features to be fed into a rule-based classifier. The segmentation performances were assessed based on Jaccard, Dice, False Positive and False Negative Rates (FPR and FNR). The results indicate that FCM offered high similarity indices which were 0.74 and 0.83 for Jaccard and Dice indices, respectively. The technique can possibly provide high accuracy and has the potential to detect and classify brain tumor from FLAIR MRI database.

With growing demand in renewable energy, solar photovoltaic (PV) technology is becoming more popular. A number of research has been carried out to increase the efficiency of the PV system. One of them is improving the Switch Mode Power Supplies (SMPS) performance to ensure maximum solar energy extraction. This paper looks at buck type SMPS suitability for use in solar PV installed in residential houses. The main issues that affect the response from the output are identified. The work will utilise the LT SPICE software to carry out the simulation. The primary objective of the study is to design an improved converter controller which is more robust and is able to maintain constant output. The emphasis is on good efficiency, stability and low output voltage ripple. This could be achieved by using the current mode control (CMC) techniques – an alternative design to the voltage mode control technique (VMC). Results obtained via simulations reveal strong evidence of CMC superiority over the VMC.

This paper presents the conceptual study on grid-to-electric vehicle (G2V) wireless power transfer (WPT) using Single Phase Matrix Converter (SPMC). In this work, the SPMC is used as a direct AC to AC converter to convert the input supply voltage at 50 Hz frequency to the output of 20 kHz to meet the WPT switching frequency operation of the transmitter and receiver coils. The high frequency AC voltage of the receiver coil is then rectified to a DC form by using SPMC. Through the proposed system, the battery of an electric car can be charged wirelessly, thus removing the annoying wires of the conventional electric vehicle charging system. The reduction in size of the charging system, power losses and optimum efficiency are among the advantages of the proposed system. MATLAB/Simulink (MLS) has been used to simulate the proposed model. Selected simulation result are presented to verify the proposed work.
