S. N S. Salim , M. F. Rahmat , L. Abdullah , S. A. Shamsudin , M. Zainon , A. F. M. Amin
The present article describes the improvement of Self-regulation Nonlinear PID (SN-PID) controller. A new function is introduced to improve the system performance in terms of transient without affecting the steady state performance. It is used to optimize the nonlinear function available on this controller.  The signal error is reprocessed through this function, and the result is used to tune the nonlinear function of the controller. Furthermore, the presence of the dead zone on the proportional valve is solved using Dead Zone Compensator (DZC). Simulations and experiments were carried out on the pneumatic positioning system. Comparisons between the existing methods were examined and successfully demonstrated.

Modified CSLBP

10.11591/ijece.v9i4.pp2950-2959
Varsha Patil , Tanuja Sarode
Image hashing is an efficient way to handle digital data authentication problem. Image hashing represents quality summarization of image features in compact manner. In this paper, the modified center symmetric local binary pattern (CSLBP) image hashing algorithm is proposed. Unlike CSLBP 16 bin histogram, Modified CSLBP generates 8 bin histogram without compromise on quality to generate compact hash. It has been found that, uniform quantization on a histogram with more bin results in more precision loss. To overcome quantization loss, modified CSLBP generates the two histogram of a four bin. Uniform quantization on a 4 bin histogram results in less precision loss than a 16 bin histogram. The first generated histogram represents the nearest neighbours and second one is for the diagonal neighbours. To enhance quality in terms of discrimination power, different weight factor are used during histogram generation. For the nearest and the diagonal neighbours, two local weight factors are used. One is the Standard Deviation (SD) and other is the Laplacian of Gaussian (LoG). Standard deviation represents a spread of data which captures local variation from mean. LoG is a second order derivative edge detection operator which detects edges well in presence of noise. The proposed algorithm is resilient to the various kinds of attacks. The proposed method is tested on database having malicious and non-malicious images using benchmark like NHD and ROC which confirms theoretical analysis. The experimental results shows good performance of the proposed method for various attacks despite the short hash length.

Predicting cognitive load in acquisition of programming abilities

10.11591/ijece.v9i4.pp3262-3271
So Asai , Dinh Thi Dong Phuong , Fumiko Harada , Hiromitsu Shimakawa
In this paper, we propose a method to predict cognitive load and its factors affecting the learning efficiency in programming learning from the learning behavior of learners. Generally, since the concepts of programming are difficult for learners, some of them suffer inappropriate cognitive load to understand them. Although teachers must keep cognitive load of such learners appropriate, it is difficult for them to find learners who has inappropriate cognitive load from a large number of learners. To find learners with inappropriate cognitive load, we construct models with the random forest algorithm, using learning behavior collected from learners solving fill-in-the-blank tests. An experiment shows the models can detect cognitive load for IL and GL along with their factors. Teachers must address adjustment of cognitive load of learners. This result clarifies the learning factors affecting cognitive load of learners, which enables teachers to address the adjustment with small burdens.

This research aimed to design the KvP meter for checking the error of output voltage from X-Ray machine with the range of 50-70 KvP. It used Arduino Gelatino microcontroller programmed with Arduino IDE software as data processor of detector result. The detector was designed based on the physics principle using material attenuation coefficient namely aluminum whose good effect in reducing the energy level of X-ray photons. Thus, the photodiode sensor only read the effective energy of the X-ray energy. Based on the radiation intensity ratio through the aluminum filter with 0.25 mm and 0.5 mm thickness, it is better to measure X-ray tube voltage non-invasively The KvP Meter was tested by setting duration of X-ray exposure that was 0.3 second, tube current was 10 mA, and KvP Meter distance from collimator was 90 cm. A prototype unit was made, and the performance was tested in terms of error and precision. After testing and analyzing the data, the error result was less than 5.1% with the highest measurement precision of ± 1.50.  It is generally concluded that this equipment can be used to measure the voltage of the X-ray tube.

Resource allocation in cloud computing using advanced imperialist competitive algorithm

10.11591/ijece.v9i4.pp3286-3297
Seyyed-Mohammad Javadi-Moghaddam , Sara Alipour
Cloud computing makes possible free access to computing resources and high-level services for performing complex calculations and mass storage of information on the Internet. Resource management is one of the most important tasks of cloud providers, which is known as resource allocation. Heterogeneous resources and diverse requests at different time intervals makes it difficult to solve resources allocation problems and is considered as a NP-hard problem. Providing an efficient algorithm for resources allocation to satisfy the cloud providers and customers has always attracted much attention of researchers. Heuristic methods have always introduced as a good model for problem solving. However, most algorithms suffer from early convergence. This paper proposes a new approach based on imperialist competitive algorithm (ICA) which emphasizes the optimization of resource allocation in reducing time, cost and energy consumption. The proposed approach has been able to improve the early convergence of colonial competition algorithm by combining with the Tabu Search Algorithm to achieve an optimal solution at an acceptable time. The evaluated results show more efficiency performance than several relevant effective algorithms.

10.11591/ijeecs.v15.i2.pp902-909
U. Illahi , J. Iqbal , M. I. Sulaiman , M Alam , M. S. Mazliham , M. H. Jamaluddin
A rectangular dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) has been excited by an off-set single conformal metal strip. By using such excitation technique two degenerate resonant modes, TExδ11 and TEy1δ1 of the rectangular DRA have been excited to achieve circular polarization (CP). A CP bandwidth of ~ 5.2% in conjunction with a wide impedance matching bandwidth of ~ 54% has been provided by the proposed DRA configuration. The antenna design has been simulated using computer simulation technology (CST). Antenna prototype has been built to verify the impedance matching bandwidth. Far field parameters have been optimized and verified using two simulation techniques in CST i.e. finite integration technique (FIT) and finite element method (FEM). A good agreement between the simulated and measured result has been observed for S11. Similarly a very good resemblance between the far field results from FIT and FEM have been demonstrated.

10.11591/ijece.v9i4.pp2840-2847
Luis G. Lafaurie , Fredy E. Hoyos , Jhon E. Candelo-Becerra
This paper presents theoretical, numerical, and experimental tests of a mobile robot, which starts on the emission of a strong sound, like an applause, and the direction and speed of the vehicle is controlled by an external pulsed light source (PWM signal). The simulation is performed in MATLAB-Simulink; electrical circuits and the experiment are shown in detail. The results show that the vehicle speed can be controlled with a PWM signal from an external light falling on the LDR sensors. Besides, the circuit was designed to consume less than 1 ampere with the four motors moving at full speed, which can easily be powered by lithium battery.

A statistical approach to spectrum sensing using bayes factor and p-Values

10.11591/ijece.v9i4.pp2910-2917
Deepa N. Reddy , Y. Ravinder
The sensing methods with multiple receive antennas  in the Cognitive Radio (CR) device, provide a promising solution for reducing the error rates in the detection of the Primary User (PU) signal. The received Signal to Noise Ratio at the CR receiver is enhanced using the diversity combiners. This paper proposes a statistical approach based on minimum Bayes factors and p-Values as diversity combiners in the spectrum sensing scenario. The effect of these statistical measures in sensing the spectrum in a CR environment is investigated. Through extensive Monte Carlo simulations it is shown that this novel statistical approach based on Bayes factors provides a promising solution to combine the test statistics from multiple receiver antennas and can be used as an alternative to the conventional hypothesis testing methods for spectrum sensing. The Bayesian results provide more accurate results when measuring the strength of the evidence against the hypothesis.

An increase in use of web produces large content of information about products. Online reviews are used to make decision by peoples. Opinion mining is vast research area in which different types of reviews are analyzed. Several issues are existing in this area. Domain adaptation is emerging issue in opinion mining. Labling of data for every domain is time consuming and costly task. Hence the need arises for model that train one domain and applied it on other domain reducing cost aswell as time. This is called domain adaptation which is addressed in this paper. Using maximum entropy and clustering technique source domains data is trained. Trained data from source domain is applied on target data to labeling purpose A result shows moderate accuracy for 5 fold cross validation and combination of source domains for Blitzer et al (2007) multi domain product dataset.

Improving of Fingerprint Segmentation Images Based on K-MEANS and DBSCAN Clustering

10.11591/ijece.v9i4.pp2425-2432
El mehdi Cherrat , Rachid Alaoui , Hassane Bouzahir
Nowadays, the fingerprint identification system is the most exploited sector of biometric. Fingerprint image segmentation is considered one of its first processing stage. Thus, this stage affects typically the feature extraction and matching process which leads to fingerprint recognition system with high accuracy. In this paper, three major steps are proposed. First, Soble and TopHat filtering method have been used to improve the quality of the fingerprint images. Then, for each local block in fingerprint image, an accurate separation of the foreground and background region is obtained by K-means clustering for combining 5-dimensional characteristics vector (variance, difference of mean, gradient coherence, ridge direction and energy spectrum). Additionally, in our approach, the local variance thresholding is used to reduce computing time for segmentation. Finally, we are combined to our system DBSCAN clustering which has been performed in order to overcome the drawbacks of K-means classification in fingerprint images segmentation. The proposed algorithm is tested on four different databases. Experimental results demonstrate that our approach is significantly efficacy against some recently published techniques in terms of separation between the ridge and non-ridge region.
