Firdaus; Universitas Islam Indonesia Firdaus , Noor Azurati; Universiti Teknologi Malaysia Ahmad , Shamsul; Universiti Teknologi Malaysia Sahibuddin
Indoor Positioning System (IPS) has an important role in the field of Internet of Thing. IPS works based on many existing radio frequency technologies. One of the most popular methods is WLAN Fingerprint because this technology has been installed widely inside buildings and it provides a high level of accuracy. The performance is affected by people who hold mobile devices (user) and also people around the users. This research aimed to minimize the computation time of kNN searching process. The results showed that when the value of k in kNN was greater, the computation time increased, especially when using Cityblock and Minkowski distance function. The smallest average computation time was 2.14 ms, when using Cityblock. Then the computational time for Euclidean and Chebychev were relatively stable, i.e. 2.2 ms and 2.23 ms, respectively.

Indonesia requires a maritime surveillance system that's capable to monitor its extensive waters territorial. One of the maritime standard navigation systems named AIS (Automatic Identification System), which is based on GPS and VHF digital communication, have enabled the ship monitoring in a real-time. By placing AIS receiver on the satellite, its coverage will be larger compared to the one usually placed on the seashore by maritime authority. Orbiting the AIS receiver prompted appearing the limitation of Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) technology so the probability of ship detection would decrease drastically due to a huge number of heard ship signal simultaneously. This paper describes the design of satellite constellation for Indonesian maritime surveillance based on the result of the AIS data acquisition by LAPAN-A2 and LAPAN-A3 satellites that operate in both equatorial and polar orbit.

A novel wavelet-based efficient hyperspectral image compression scheme for low memory sensors has been proposed. The proposed scheme uses the 3D dyadic wavelet transform to exploit intersubband and intrasubband correlation among the wavelet coefficients. By doing the reconstruction of the transform image cube, taking the difference between the frames, it increases the coding efficiency, reduces the memory requirement and complexity of the hyperspectral compression schemes in comparison with other state-of-the-art compression schemes.

Asynchronous agent-based simulation and optimization of parallel business

10.12928/telkomnika.v17i4.10846
Aziz; Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember Surabaya Fajar , Riyanarto; Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember Sarno
A Port Container Terminal (PCT) involves complex business processes which are carried out by at least four organizations, namely PCT Operator, Customer, Quarantine and Customs. Each organization produces event log data from the activities. The event log data from the four organizations contain synchronous and asynchronous activities. In this research, the four organizations are represented by four agents. By simulating this log data using agent based simulation, we get the performance of the current business process. The performance indicators gathered are time and cost which are needed to do the activity (task). After the simulation is complete, we found Asynchronous Waiting Time (AWT). AWT is waiting time which happens because the agent in the simulation cannot do the newly assigned task because the agent is still working on the other task. Therefore, we parallelize the task performed by the agent so that the agent can do multiple tasks at a time. After we parallelize the task, we perform an optimization process using Stochastic Multicriteria Adaptability Analysis 2 (SMAA-2). Thus, the optimal amount of task an agent can do simultaneously is analyzed. This study result shows that parallelization can reduce AWT of the current system and the optimization process using SMAA-2 shows the most optimal number of multiple tasks an agent can do simultaneously.

A.; Universiti Teknologi Malaysia Azmi , K. A. A.; Universiti Teknologi Malaysia Seman , K. Y.; Universiti Teknologi Malaysia Lau
Silicon nitride (Si3N4) has been utilized as a nanofiller in polymeric insulation due to its good characteristics in both electrical insulation and thermal conduction properties. In this work, a comparative study was performed between unfilled polyethylene and polyethylene containing different amounts of Si3N4 nanofiller. The study showed that the low density polyethylene (LDPE) added with 15 wt% of Si3N4nanofiller could have higher breakdown strength compared to equivalent LDPE with 10 wt% of Si3N4nanofiller. Morphological characterizations of the nanocomposite samples were performed using field emission electron microscopy (FESEM) and the results showed that the breakdown performance of the investigated materials were affected by the agglomeration of Si3N4 nanoparticles.

Nishanthi Sunthrasakaran , Nor Akmal Mohd Jamail , Rahisham Abd. Rahman , Md Nor Ramdon Bin Baharom , Qamarul Ezani Kamarudin , Mohamad Farid Sies , W. Muhammad W. N. Azrina
Almost all research on natural fibre reinforced composite has focused on the mechanical properties of the composite. Drawing on the important factors that effect the end product of composite, this paper reviews electrical properties of hybrid biocomposite when fibre content and surface treatment is varied. The compilation of dielectric constant, dissipation factor, loss factor and moisture absorption reported by researchers has been presented in this paper. The intrinsic characteristic of natural fibre which is hydrophilic is the main drawback that affects the electrical properties of the composite. Alkaline treatment on natural fibre has proven to overcome the hydrophilic characteristic and improves the adhesion between matrix and fibre. Besides that, the percentage of fibre content plays an important role in producing a good natural fibre reinforced hybrid composite. The moisture uptake, dielectric constant, dissipation factor and loss factor of the composite decreases with decreased fibre content.

A stable passive Q-switched pulsed generation in Erbium doped fiber laser by Zinc Oxide nanoparticles embedded in polyvinyl alcohol (ZnONP-PVA)-based saturable absorber is demonstrated in this paper. The surface morphology and thickness profile of the fabricated film were observed using FESEM and 3D measuring laser microscope with the measured thickness of 12 μm. Meanwhile the its optical properties is characterized using Raman spectroscopy. The developed ZnONP-PVA film, has modulation depth of 7.8% and intensity saturation of 88.97 MW/cm2. The threshold input pump power to generate Q-switched pulse is at 45.4 mW and can be tuned until 92.4 mW before the pulse diminished. The operating wavelength of generated pulse is at 1535 nm with 3 dB bandwidth approximately of 2 nm with exclusion of parasitic continuous wave lasing. As the input pump power was tuned from threshold to maximum value, the recorded pulse train of repetition rate is tunable from 73.53 kHz to 103.10 kHz while the pulse width decreases from 6.8 μs to 4.8 μs. The calculated maximum output power and pulse energy at maximum input pump power was 5.14 mW and 49.85 nJ, respectively. The measured signal to noise ratio was 56 dB indicated that the generated pulse by ZnO NP based passive saturable absorber was stable.

F.; University of Saida Bouasria , A.; University of Sidi Bel Abbes Djebbari , M.; University of Saïda Chetioui
In this paper we derive the Multicarrier Equalization by Restoration of Redundancy (MERRY) algorithm: A blind, adaptive channel shortening algorithm for updating a Time-domain Equalizer (TEQ) in a system employing MultiCarrier Code Division Multiple Access (MC-CDMA) modulation. We show that the MERRY algorithm applied to the MC-CDMA system converges considerably more rapidly than in the Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) system [1]. Simulations results are provided to demonstrate the performance of the algorithm.

Muhammad Yusof Mohd; Universiti Teknologi Malaysia Noor , Ahmad Sharmi; Universiti Teknologi Malaysia Abdullah , Asrul Izam; Universiti Teknologi Malaysia Azmi , Mohd Haniff; Universiti Teknologi Malaysia Ibrahim , Mohd Rashidi; Universiti Teknologi Malaysia Salim , Norazan; Universiti Teknologi Malaysia Kassim
A novel simple fiber sensor to sense liquid level is presented. The operation principle is based on the relative Fresnel reflective intensity. The sensor consists of a fiber splitter with the configuration of one input to multiple fiber outputs, i.e. 1×4, 1×8 and 1×12 arrangements that act as a discrete liquid level. A broadband source (BBS) is used as the light source supply. The total reflected power intensity is measured using a power meter. Experimental results show that the power intensity decreases as the level of liquid is increased. The sensor has a simple configuration, low cost, and it can be customized for a wide height measurement range spanning from a few centimeters up to a hundred meters.
