A Neural Network Based Speed Control of a Dual Star Induction Motor

https://ijece.iaescore.com/index.php/IJECE/article/view/5524
Meliani Bouziane , Meroufel Abdelkader
This paper propose the use of artificial neural networks to control the speed of a Double Star Induction Motor drives fed by a two matrix converter using Venturini modulation algorithm, The advent of the field oriented with modern speed control technique has partially solved DSIM control problems because it is sensitive to drive parameter variations and performance may deteriorate if conventional controllers are used. Neural network based controller is considered as potential candidates for such an application. In this work the simulations results are provided to evaluate performance of the proposed control strategy.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v4i6.6343

Suroso Suroso , Winasis Winasis , Toshihiko Noguchi
Renewable power generation using photovoltaic is very interesting to be developed to deal with the problems of conventional energy sources and environmental issues. The photovoltaic power generation can operate both in stand-alone and grid-connected operations. This paper presents an application of the five-level common-emitter current-source inverter (CE-CSI) for grid connected photovoltaic system without batteries as energy storage system. In the proposed system, the five-level CE-CSI works generating a sinusoidal output current from photovoltaic system to be injected into the power grid. The transformer is used in the system to step-down the grid voltage to meet the voltage level of the photovoltaic system, and also works as a galvanic insulation between the power grid and the inverter system. Two conditions of the power grid voltage, i.e. a pure sinusoidal and a distorted power grid, are tested through computer simulation using PSIM software. Furthermore, experimental test result of the five-level inverter is also presented. The test results show that the five-level CE-CSI works well injecting a sinusoidal current into the power grid with low harmonic contents, and with unity power factor operation. The results also show that the distorted grid voltage affects the harmonic contents of the current injected by the inverter.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijpeds.v4i4.6464

Reduction of operating costs in power system in order to return the investment costs and more profitability has vital importance in power industry. Economic Load Dispatch (ELD) is one of the most important issues in reducing operating costs. ELD is formulated as a nonlinear optimization problem with continuous variables within the power plants. The main purpose of this problem is optimal planning of power generation in power plants with minimum cost by total units, regarded to equality and inequality constraints including load demand and the range of units' power productivity. In this article, Economic Load Dispatch problem has been modeled by considering the valve-point loading effects with power plants' constraints such as: the balance of production and consumption in system, the forbidden zones, range of production, increasing and decreasing rates, reliability constraints and network security. To solve the problem, Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) Algorithms has been employed. To evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed method, the problem has been implemented on a power system with 15 generating units and the results have been evaluated.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v4i6.6720

Product quality is the most important issue in the Computer Numerical Control (CNC) process. Hence, with exercise equipment parts Surface Roughness as the target, this study selected Spindle speed, Cutting depth, Feeding, and Tool runoff, as control parameters in CNC parametric optimization of target quality. By using the Theory of Inventive Problem Solving (TRIZ) to define the Cause and Effect relationship and conflicting points, this study quickly identified an optimal solution, according to TRIZ, and determined factor relevance by cutting control parameters. By the 40 Inventive Principles of TRIZ corresponding to Contradiction Matrix, we obtained the Surface Roughness optimization strategy. The empirical research results suggest that Surface Roughness can actually be improved under the optimal parameter combination. The effectiveness and practicality of the proposed method are verified.

Kolb’s Experiential Learning Theory postulates that in learning, knowledge is created by the learners’ ability to absorb and transform experience. Many studies have previously suggested that at rest, the brain emits signatures that can be associated with cognitive and behavioural patterns. Hence, the study attempts to characterise and classify learning styles from EEG using the spectral centroid frequency features. Initially, learning style of 68 university students has been assessed using Kolb’s Learning Style Inventory. Resting EEG is then recorded from the prefrontal cortex. Next, the EEG is pre-processed and filtered into alpha and theta sub-bands in which the spectral centroid frequencies are computed from the corresponding power spectral densities. The dataset is further enhanced to 160 samples via synthetic EEG. The obtained features are then used as input to the k-nearest neighbour classifier that is incorporated with k-fold cross-validation. Feature classification via k-nearest neighbour has attained five-fold mean training and testing accuracies of 100% and 97.5%, respectively. Hence, results show that the alpha and theta spectral centroid frequencies represent distinct and stable EEG signature to distinguish learning styles from the resting brain.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v4i6.6833

Micro Hydro Power Plant has become one of the interesting topics to be researched nowadays. This paper deals with the stability analysis on control system of excitation voltage in Micro Hydro Power Plant. The control of this voltage can be achieved by controlling the Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machine (PMSM) with particular algorithm so the voltage on the DC-link part of the system can be controlled. Without knowing the exact specification of system parameters, the system will be most likely unstable. The DC-link control system is modeled, simulated, and mathematically analyzed so the parameter specification for the stable system can be obtained.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijpeds.v4i4.6436

In this work, a No-Reference objective image quality assessment based on NRDPF-IQA metric and classification based metric are tested using LIVE database, which consisting of Gaussian white noise, Gaussian blur, Rayleigh fast fading channel, JPEG compressed images, JPEG2000 images. We plot the Spearman’s Rank Order Correlation Coefficient [SROCC] between each of these features and human DMOS from the LIVE-IQA database using our proposed method to ascertain how well the features correlate with human judgement quality. The analysis of the testing and training is done by SVM model. The proposed method shows better results compared with the earlier methods. Finally, the results are generated by using MATLAB.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v4i6.6783

Particle Swarm Optimization with a Simulated Binary Crossover Operator

https://ijeecs.iaescore.com/index.php/IJEECS/article/view/3947
Lei Yang , Caixia Yang , Yu Liu
Particle swarm optimization (PSO) is a new intelligent search technique, which is inspired by swarm intelligence. Although PSO has shown good performance in many benchmark optimization problems, it suffers from premature convergence in solving complex multimodal problems. In this paper, we propose a novel PSO algorithm, called PSO with a simulated binary crossover operator (SCPSO), to improve the performance of PSO. Experimental results on several benchmark problems show that SCPSO achieves better performance than standard PSO. http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v12i12.5999

Application of Distribution Power Electronic Transformer for Medium Voltage

https://ijpeds.iaescore.com/index.php/IJPEDS/article/view/5028
Prashant Kumar
In   this   paper   a   distribution   power electronic transformer (DPET) for feeding critical loads is presented. The PE based transformer is a multi-port converter that can connect to medium voltage levels on the primary side. Bidirectional power flow is provided to the each module. The presented structure consists of three stages: an input stage, an isolation stage, and an output stage.  The input current is sinusoidal, and it converts the high AC input voltage to low DC voltages. The isolated DC/DC converters are then connected to the DC links and provide galvanic isolation between the HV and LV sides. Finally, a three-phase inverter generates the AC output with the desired amplitude and frequency. The proposed DPET is extremely modular and can be extended for different voltage and power levels. It performs typical functions and has advantages such as power factor correction, elimination of voltage sag and swell, and reduction of voltage flicker in load side. Also in comparison to conventional transformers, it has lower weight, lower volume and eliminates necessity for toxic dielectric coolants the DPET performance is verified in MATLAB simulation.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijpeds.v4i4.6395

Recently, ground marker based on the principle of acoustic detection has become the trend of pipeline technology. As to the difficulty and low accuracy of ground marker, this paper introduces a new MEMS bionic acoustic vector sensor with high sensitivity, good performance in low frequency and lower power. As to the problem of the port/starboard blur of this vector sensor in ground marking, it proposes a new plan and proves the correctness of the plan through theoretic analysis and experimental verification. The results show that the mean error of the directional angle is within 5 degree meeting the needs of the engineering project.

Bidirectional Luo Converter Fed Switched Reluctance Motor

https://ijeecs.iaescore.com/index.php/IJEECS/article/view/3927
R. Balamurugan , M. Vishvanath
The present work aims at designing and modelling of a bidirectional DC-DC LUO converter for driving a Switched Reluctance Motor. LUO converters are new series of DC/DC Converters that have very low ripple of voltage and current and have output wave with high quality, high power density and high transfer voltage gain and don’t have circuit elements parasitic limits of traditional converters. LUO converters have very high voltage transfer gains in geometric progression on stage by-stage. A C- Dump converter is used to drive the SRM drive. The present design aims at improving the efficiency of the Switched Reluctance Motor drive system by the incorporation of the bidirectional DC-DC LUO converter between the electrical source and the drive system.  http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v12i12.6883

Circularly Polarized Cylindrical Dielectric Resonator Antenna with Different Shapes Cross Slot

https://ijece.iaescore.com/index.php/IJECE/article/view/5529
Zahra Rahimian
A cross slot coupled cylindrical dielectric resonator antenna (CDRA) operating in the X-band (8GHz -12GHz) frequency range is studied. The proposed CP designs are achieved by implementing a suitable cross slot on the ground plane (in the case of aperture coupled feed method), which results in excitation of two near degenerate orthogonal modes of near equal amplitudes and 90°phase difference. Attempts are made to change the geometry of slots ends to introduce a novel structure in order to achieve a better impedance bandwidth with an improved 3dB axial ratio (AR) bandwidth. It is found that the hourglass of cross slot has a great effect on the strength of coupling between the feed line and the dielectric resonator antenna. In simulation an impedance bandwidth of 46.15% and axial ratio bandwidth of 22% has been achieved with the above geometry. An improvement of 12% in impedance bandwidth and 11.2% in Axial ratio bandwidth is obtained over conventional rectangular cross slot.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v4i6.6484

This paper presents a framework to carry out a simulation to tune the speed controller gains for known input of DC drive system. The objective is to find the optimal controller gains (proportional and integral) in a closed loop system. Various performance indices have been considered as optimal criterion in this work. The optimal gain values have been obtained by conventional and Genetic Algorithm (GA) based optimization methods. The study has been conducted on a simulink model of three phase converter controlled direct current (DC) drive with current and speed control strategy. The results show that the GA based tunning provided better solutions as compared to conventional optimization methods based tunning.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijpeds.v4i4.6334

Abdelkhalek Nasri , Hassen Zairi , Ali Gharsallah
The present paper highlights an innovative broadband millimeter-wave single balanced diode mixer which is designed using a newly designed 90 substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) coupler and two cavity (SIW) filters. The mixer covers RF/LO operating frequency range which fluctuates between 10 to 12 GHz and IF port covers 2GHz. The proposed mixer exhibits a fairly low conversion loss of less than 10 dB and high port to-port isolations over the frequency band of interest as the simulated results make clear. Furthermore, the two cavities SIW filter is embedded to achieve a better image frequency suppression of about 28dB.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v4i6.6684
