Voltage Instability of Initiation Fault Duration as Influenced by Nodes Short Circuit Levels NSCL with Different Types of Loads

10.11591/ijece.v6i3.pp1305-1318
Youssef Ahmed Mobarak , Mahmoud M. Hussein
The occurrence of voltage instabilities or voltage collapses depend on the duration of the persistence of the fault and on the type of fault, some faults lead to voltage instabilities, others lead to voltage collapse. Evaluation of fault durations causing occurrence of voltage instabilities is the main goal of this paper. This paper searches for the effect of nodes short circuit levels NSCL and its duration periods initiation of voltage instability, with lagging and leading load power factors at certain loads buses. In this paper, the power system dynamic simulation program is developed for dynamic analysis of voltage stability. This paper is concerned with the fault duration which lead to the occurrence of voltage instability phenomena due to NSCL. The fault which lead to voltage instability is found to be short circuits at certain nodes cleared without any variation in the transmission system elements, i.e. the post-fault conditions will be the same as the pre-fault conditions. Models for loads considered in this study are induction motors with three different shaft mechanical loads, constant impedance CZ loads, constant current CI loads and constant power CP loads are used, as they depict the behavior of most power system loads. The influence of the transmission network impedances, which are nearly the inverse of the NSCL, on the fault duration which lead to the occurrence of voltage instabilities are studied and evaluated using various load representations.

UHVDC has been rapidly developed for its large conveying capacity, small net loss and easy power control, which can solve the problem of the uneven distribution of load and energy with great economy. However, with DC transmission access, the power system must have a strong ability of reactive power support to cope with the possibility of transient voltage problem. At the same time, regional power oscillation issue also can’t be ignored. Considering that the STATCOM device, as a type of parallel FACTS, can only provide dynamic reactive power to support the system voltage and cannot undertake active regulation and control to damp system power oscillation problem, STATCOM with energy storage is presented in this paper to solve both problem of transient voltage and power oscillation in AC-DC hybrid system. In view of the central China province power grid planning, possible serious faults of the system were analyzed. The simulation results show that STATCOM with energy storage cannot only effectively support the system transient voltage and promote voltage of dc inverter station to avoid DC block caused by commutation failure, but also can significantly enhance the system damping and restrain regional power oscillation in case of system failure.

10.11591/ijece.v6i3.pp1233-1247
Mehimmedetsi Boudjemaa , Chenni Rachid
The Permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) is suitable for so much application, such as traction, aeronautics and generally in industrial automated processes. In our work, we will study the application of PMSM in renewable energies especially solar pumping. Our objective is to model the complete system, including the photovoltaic inverter, PMSM and the centrifugal pump under Matlab/Simulink environment. Solar panels generate electrical energy as direct current by direct conversion of solar radiation using semiconductor materials made of monocrystalline, polycrystalline or amorphous silicon. The energy received depends on radiation and on ambient temperature. The permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) is not stable in open loop. To control the PMSM in terms of speed, torque or position, we need to implement vector control. We will establish the field oriented control of a PMSM supplied by photovoltaic source with a focus on their applications in variable speed domain.

Kridanto Surendro , Olivia Olivia
In the past few decades, educational institutions have been using conventional academic ERP system to integrate and optimize their business process. In this delivery model, each educational institutions are responsible of their own data, installation, and also maintenance. For some institutions, it might cause not only waste of resources, but also problems in management and financial aspects. Cloud-based Academic ERP, a SaaS-based ERP system, begin to come as a solution with is virtualization technology. It allows institutions to use only the needed ERP resources, without any specific installation, integration, or maintenance needs. As the implementation of Cloud ERP increases, problems arise on how to evaluate this system. Current evaluation approaches are either only evaluating the cloud computing aspects or only evaluating the software quality aspects. This paper proposes an assessment model for Cloud ERP system, considering both software quality characteristics and cloud computing attributes to help strategic decision makers evaluate academic Cloud ERP system.

AC Interference on Gas Pipeline due to Phase to Ground Faults in Overhead Transmission Line

10.11591/ijece.v6i3.pp1363-1370
Ali I. El Gayar , Zulkurnain Abdul-Malek
The purpose of this research is to investigate the severity of voltages induced on gas pipeline installed in parallel to a 115 kV overhead transmission line. The overhead transmission line (OHTL) is configured as a single-circuit. One of the phases exposed to single phase to ground fault. Transmission of high voltage along the same right of way (ROW) with metallic conductor may possibly introduce interference on metallic conductors such as gas pipeline (GPL) due to power frequency voltage as well as due to phase faults and switching phenomena. Two main approaches were used to compute the induced voltages, namely the method of moment (MOM), which is based on electromagnetic field theory, and circuit based method. The simulation considers the length of OHTL and GPL are 30 km and 10km respectively. The pipeline buried at 1 m underground in homogenous earth structure with various soil resistivites ranged from 10 to 1000 Ω-m. The transmission line consists of 150 towers and 200 m span length. The separation distance between the GPL and OHTL is varied from 5 to 100 m. The phase to ground fault current changed from 0.5 to 10 kA. Several observation points are made throughout the corridor, to examinant the induced voltages at different locations. The result show that, the soil resistivity, separation distance, and fault current had significant effect on pipeline induced voltage. In case of the observation points lying on the soil or on the outer surface of the pipeline coating, the induced voltage increased, when the soil resistivity increase, as expected. In case of the observation points placed inside the pipeline metal, and the pipeline is well coated, the induced voltage will decreased, when the soil resistivity increase.

H-WEMA: A New Approach of Double Exponential Smoothing Method

10.12928/telkomnika.v14i2.3096
Seng; Universitas Multimedia Nusantara Hansun , Subanar; Universitas Gadjah Mada Subanar
A popular smoothing technique commonly used in time series analysis is double exponential smoothing. Basically, it’s an improvement of simple exponential smoothing which does the exponential filter process twice. Many researchers had developed the technique, hence Brown’s double exponential smoothing and Holt’s double exponential smoothing. Here, we introduce a new approach of double exponential smoothing, called H-WEMA, which combines the calculation of weighting factor in weighted moving average with Holt’s double exponential smoothing method. The proposed method will then be tested on Jakarta Stock Exchange (JKSE) composite index data. The accuracy and robustness level of the proposed method will then be examined by using mean square error and mean absolute percentage error criteria, and be compared to other conventional methods.

Tuna and mackerel are important fish in Indonesia that have great demand in the community and contain good nutrients for health. Many of the processed products have been faked including processed fish, by replacing the content of products that have high sales value to other lower price one. For ensuring food safety, fraudulent should be prevented by identifying the content of refined product. In this research, we implemented support vector machine (SVM), one of the popular methods in machine learning, to yield a model for identifying the content of refined product based on DNA barcode sequences. The feature extraction of DNA barcode Sequences was conducted by calculating k-mers frequency of each sequences. In this study, we used trinucleotide (3-mers) and tetranucleotide (4-mers). These features were inputted to SVM to classify and identify whether the DNA barcode sequences belong to the class of tuna, mackerel, or other fish. The evaluation results showed model SVM was able to perform identification with the accuracy 88%.

Electrical capacitance volume tomography (ECVT) system uses six switches in one channel with configuration resembling “T” letter, so it is called “T-switch”. The working scheme of the switch can be explained in four different modes of operation, i.e. excitation mode, detection mode, ground mode, and floating mode. This research describes the effect of switch configuration to stray capacitance in ECVT hardware. Stray capacitance introduces parasitic signal from other sources; one of them is signal from another electrode at floating mode when the signal is still flowing to detection circuit. One channel, two channels, three channels, so on until thirty-two channels are connected to single detection circuit sequentially to investigate the effect of stray capacitance. Both simulation and experiment show the stray capacitance increases along with addition of channel corresponds to 0.046pF for each channel.
