Dual simulated annealing soft decoder for linear block codes

10.11591/ijai.v14.i4.pp2776-2787
Hicham Tahiri Alaoui , Ahmed Azouaoui , Jamal El Kafi
This paper proposes a new approach to soft decoding for linear block codes called dual simulated annealing soft decoder (DSASD) which utilizes the dual code instead of the original code, using the simulated annealing algorithm as presented in a previously developed work. The DSASD algorithm demonstrates superior decoding performance across a wide range of codes, outperforming classical simulated annealing and several other tested decoders. We conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the proposed algorithm's performance, optimizing its parameters to achieve the best possible results. Additionally, we compare its decoding performance and algorithmic complexity with other decoding algorithms in its category. Our results demonstrate a gain in performance of approximately 2.5 dB at a bit error rate (BER) of 6×10⁻⁶ for the LDPC (60,30) code.

Indonesia, a leading nation in the palm oil industry, experienced a significant increase of 15.62% in crude palm oil (CPO) exports in 2020, effectively meeting the global need for vegetable oil and fat. Therefore, the subjective assessment of CPO quality, influenced by differences in human evaluations, may lead to inconsistencies, necessitating the adoption of machine learning methods. There are several categories of CPO, such as bad and excellent. Machine learning can determine the quality of CPO itself. This study utilizes two distinct categories to measure the quality of CPO. CPO quality data is collected and processed into pre-processing data, in classifying using several methods such as artificial neural network (ANN), k-nearest neighbor (KNN), support vector machine (SVM), decision tree (DT), naïve Bayes (NB), and C.45 using the cross-validation evaluation parameter. The best results are obtained by C.45 and DT with an accuracy of 99.98%.

Cloud application design for financial reporting in Indonesia’s small and medium enterprises

10.11591/ijict.v14i2.pp457-466
Erin Erin , Anderes Gui
Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Indonesia are increasingly developing, but the application of information technology (IT) in small medium businesses is still lacking because for small medium business owners, doing their own bookkeeping without a system will maximize profits. However, this makes bookkeeping ineffective and inefficient because it requires manual data input and reconciliation. Utilizing a cloud-based accounting information system (CAIS) can integrate data, increase productivity, and minimize infrastructure costs because there is no need to provide costs for physical infrastructure. In this research, CAIS was designed to produce financial reports that focus on small medium businesses in Indonesia. The method used is a qualitative method by conducting observations through literature study for data collection and the rational unified process (RUP) which is limited to the elaboration stage to produce a prototype design. So, the result of this paper is a system design that can be used as a guide to continue with system development. This system aims to simplify transaction records so that they can be more efficient and effective in producing financial reports. The use of CAIS is also expected to increase profits and maximize the use of internet and technology in small medium businesses.

Higher education institutions often grapple with issues related to academic risk among their students. These academic risks encompass low academic performance, study delays, and dropouts. One approach to address these challenges is to predict students’ academic performance as accurately as possible by leveraging advanced computational techniques and utilizing academic and non-academic student data. This research aims to develop a model that accurately identifies students with high potential for academic risk while explaining the contributing factors to this phenomenon in the Faculty of Vocational Studies, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS). The prediction model is constructed using the light gradient boosting machine (LightGBM) method and is subsequently interpreted using the Shapley additive explanations (SHAP) value. Additionally, an oversampling method, based on synthetic minority oversampling technique (SMOTE), is implemented to address imbalances in the dataset. The proposed approach achieves 96% and 97% accuracy and specificity rates, respectively. Analysis based on SHAP values reveals that extracurricular activities, choice of major, smoking habit, gender, and friendship circle are among the top five factors impacting students’ academic risk.

Suhaila M. P. , Hemalatha S.
As one of the top five rice-producing countries, India relies heavily on rice for both economic management and food needs. To ensure healthy rice plant growth, early detection of diseases and timely treatment are essential. Since manual disease detection is time-consuming and labor-intensive, an automated approach is more practical. This work presents a deep neural network (DNN)-based artificial intelligence (AI) method for recognizing rice leaf diseases. The method detects three common diseases: leaf smut, bacterial leaf blight, and brown spot, as well as healthy images. The approach uses an AI-based attention network and semantic batch normalized DeepNet (AN-SBNDN) combined with a channel attention mechanism to improve disease detection accuracy. Experiments with rice leaf datasets and comparison with conventional networks like residual attention network (Res ATTEN) and dynamic speeded up robust features (DSURF) validate the effectiveness of the method. Key performance metrics include average accuracy, time, precision, and recall, achieved at 21%, 44%, 26%, and 31%, respectively.

Ganiyat Abiodun Salawu , Glen Bright
The efficient operation of furnace-fired drum boilers is critically dependent on the precise control of downstream exit pressure, especially in the presence of stochastic heat fluctuations. This paper presents a stochastic control approach for regulating the downstream exit pressure in a furnace-fired boiler subject to random heat fluctuations. A stochastic model of the boiler dynamics is developed, incorporating heat transfer and combustion uncertainties. By leveraging disruptive technology, such as the model predictive control (MPC), strategies were designed to optimize the downstream exit pressure in real-time, and minimizing deviations from the set point. Simulation studies demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed approach in maintaining a stable exit pressure despite random heat fluctuations. Results show significant improvements in boiler performance and efficiency compared to traditional proportional integral derivative (PID) control. The proposed stochastic control strategy offers a promising solution for reliable and efficient operation of furnace-fired boilers under uncertain conditions.

Diabetes is a severe illness characterized by high blood glucose levels. Machine learning algorithms, with their ability to detect and predict diabetes in its early stages, offer a promising avenue for research. This study sought to enhance the accuracy of predicting diabetes mellitus by employing the stacking method. The stacking method was chosen because it integrates predictions from various base models, resulting in a more precise final prediction. The stacking method enhances accuracy and generalization by utilizing the varied strengths of multiple base models. The Pima Indians diabetes dataset, a widely used benchmark dataset, was utilized in the study. The machine learning models used for the studies were logistic regression (LR), naïve Bayes (NB), extreme gradient boost (XGBoost), K-nearest neighbor (KNN), decision tree (DT), and support vector machine (SVM). LR, KNN, and SVM were the best-performing models based on accuracy, F1-score, precision, and area under the curve (AUC) score, and were consequently used as the base model for the stacking method. The LR model was utilized for the meta-model. The proposed ensemble approach using the stacking method demonstrated a high accuracy of 82.4%, better than the individual models and other ensemble techniques such as bagging or boosting. This study advances diabetes prediction by developing a more accurate early-stage detection model, thereby improving clinical management of the disease.

A contributing factor to traffic accidents is brake pad failure, which diminishes braking system performance and extends braking distance. This work develops a prototype utilizing internet of things (IoT) to measure brake pad thickness, hence enhancing driver awareness through real-time monitoring. The system establishes the thickness detection threshold at 75% (3-4 mm) and 50% (5–6 mm) as a cautionary parameter. The thickness parameter employs an American wire gauge (AWG) 18 cable to connect to the ESP32 microcontroller. The web-based IoT monitoring interface employs Laravel. This method enables drivers to get prompt notifications regarding the decrease in brake pad thickness, hence permitting urgent preventative maintenance to mitigate the risk of accidents. The system underwent testing through friction at a rotational speed of 600 to 6,000 rpm. The test findings indicated that the sensor precisely measured the brake pad thickness with a prototype response time of a second. This system is suitable for implementation on old model vehicles that do not have an early warning system. The installation of this technology is anticipated to enhance driver knowledge of the state of the brake pads, hence potentially diminishing the danger of brake system failure caused by unmonitored pad wear.
