Epileptic seizures are one of the most prevalent brain disorders in the world. Electroencephalography (EEG) signal analysis is used to distinguish between normal and epileptic brain activity. To date, automatic diagnosis remains a highly relevant and significant research topic which can help in this task, especially considering that such diagnosis requires a significant amount of time to be carried out by an expert. As a result, the need for an effective seizure approach capable to classify the normal and epileptic brain signal automatically is crucial. In this perspective, this work proposes a deep neural network approach using transfer learning to classify spectrogram images that have been extracted from EEG signals. Initially, spectrogram images have been extracted and used as input to pre-trained models, and a second refinement is performed on certain feature extraction layers that were previously frozen. The EfficientNet and DarkNet networks are used. To overcome the lack of data, data augmentation was also carried out. The proposed work performed excellently, as assessed by multiple metrics, such as the 0.99 accuracy achieved with EfficientNet combined with a support vector machine (SVM) classifier.

Daulet Naubetov , Mubarak Yakubova , Bahodir Yakubov , Nurzhigit Smailov
Zigbee, a key technology in the field of wireless networks for the Internet of Things, plays a significant role in the development of modern wireless network technologies. In this study, the analysis of coordinator failures in ZigBee networks with different topologies (“star”, “tree”, “mesh”) was carried out using the OPNET Modeler software tool. The problems related to the reliability and efficiency of systems using Zigbee technology are considered. Simulation of successive coordinator failures allowed us to compare the performance of topologies, revealing that the tree topology provides high traffic speed and bandwidth, but suffers from significant packet loss and delays. In turn, the star topology demonstrates minimal latency and high speed, and the mesh topology has better reliability with less packet loss, but the lowest speed and bandwidth. The findings emphasize the importance of choosing the optimal topology to ensure the efficiency and reliability of Zigbee networks in a volatile environment and increased load.

Stress on the micro-electromechnical system (MEMS) sensors significantly decreases sensor accuracy. Thermomechanical stresses induced by the packaging assembly process and external loads during operation induce a shift in the output signal (offset) of MEMS sensors. To achieve high precision in accelerometers, gyroscopes, and other MEMS devices, it is crucial to employ advanced modeling and simulation techniques to mitigate stress-induced offset drift. Therefore, this paper aims to explore and simulate stress on inertial sensors by designing a gyroscope tuning fork with a perforated proof mass to reduce the damping effect. Our findings provide insights for decreasing stress by varying the material and thickness of the inertial sensor. The least stress was obtained from an inertial silicon sensor with 5 and 20 mm thicknesses.

10.11591/ijeecs.v39.i1.pp101-109
Laiadi Abdelhamid , Chentouf Abdellah , Ezziyyani Mostafa
This study addresses the classification of Homogeneous and Filamentary discharge modes in dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) systems and predicts the Homogeneous current waveform using machine learning (ML). The motivation stems from the need for accurate modelling in non-thermal plasma systems. The problem tackled is distinguishing between these two modes and predicting the current waveform for Homogeneous discharge. A random forest classification algorithm is applied, using experimental features such as applied voltage, frequency, gas gap, dielectric material, and gas type. An exponential model is proposed for the discharge current, with Gaussian regression transforming the model’s parameters. The classification results are evaluated through a confusion matrix, showcasing 80% accuracy in distinguishing discharge modes. The regression analysis reveals strong Pearson correlation coefficients between predicted and experimental waveforms. In conclusion, the results demonstrate the efficacy of ML techniques in enhancing DBD system modelling, though improvements can be made by expanding the dataset and refining feature selection for better classification and prediction performance.

The cultivation of algae has gotten more attention from algae enthusiasts who have seen the benefits of algae in many uses. To maximize productivity, the parameters for growth of this algae must be controlled, such as pH, turbidity, light intensity, and the mixture solution for optimal growth. In this paper, an automated spirulina algae cultivator is designed and developed in a small-scale pond to replace the existing manual process. The system developed is composed of compact and modular cultivation unit, ph sensor, water level sensor, turbidity sensor, light intensity sensor, and motor actuators for mixing solutions. Each parameter was controlled individually in an on-off control system. A simple nutrient addition program (SNAP) solution is also used for better growth productivity by maximizing its nutrient contents. The pH is maintained at 9 to 12 for a healthy biomass output. Daily weight measurement was conducted using an analytical balance to monitor its growth. Using the developed prototype recorded a 33% higher rate of productivity over the manual process. This setup can potentially be used as a model for mass production of spirulina algae.

Yogesh B. Mandake , Deepak S. Bankar , Amit L. Nehete
Switched reluctance motors (SRMs) are an attractive choice for electric vehicle (EV) applications but suffer from certain limitations, such as high torque ripple and acoustic noise. This paper presents ongoing research and development activity details to enhance the performance of SRMs for EV applications. The poor performance of a conventional SRM which is available in market with a rating of 8/6 poles, 48 V, 500 W, and 2,000 rpm is tested. A motor model of the same rating is developed using ANSYS Maxwell software. Motor performance parameters important for EV applications, such as efficiency, rated torque and torque ripple are compared with the conventional motor. One novel technique to reduce the torque ripple of SRM is discussed along with the results. Torque ripple of developed software model is reduced by 24.52% without a reduction in the efficiency and rated torque of the motor. The performance of the developed SRM software model is better compared to conventional SRMs available in the market. 2D and 3D models of SRM were presented using ANSYS Maxwell software.

Sentiment analysis of product reviews offers valuable insights into consumer perspectives, which can inform product development and marketing strategies. Given the growing importance of user-generated content like product reviews, this study explored sentiment classification in online reviews of Ben & Jerry's ice cream. We designed and evaluated three machine learning algorithms for sentiment classification: Naïve Bayes (NB), logistic regression (LR), and support vector machine (SVM). The dataset exhibited a significant class imbalance, with substantially more positive than negative reviews. We employed two oversampling techniques: the synthetic minority oversampling technique (SMOTE) and the adaptive synthetic sampling approach (ADASYN). With the original skewed data, NB, LR, and SVM achieved accuracies of 91.90%, 93.77%, and 95.09%, respectively. While SMOTE did not improve performance in some scenarios, ADASYN yielded positive results and generally enhanced model reliability across all algorithms. Post-balancing with ADASYN, the sentiment distribution became less skewed, and accuracies shifted to 92.04% for NB, 94.96% for LR, and 95.23% for SVM. The combination of SVM and ADASYN demonstrated promising results, suggesting this approach may offer robust and efficient performance for binary sentiment classification, especially with imbalanced datasets.

As more and more people shop online, the postal code system must be more dependable. Due to the absence of a comprehensive postcode system, online purchases and shipping in the developing country of Jordan are complicated. This research paper proposes an alternative delivery system for delivering online purchases to customers without postal codes. Smartphone and computer-based geographic information system (GIS) applications evaluated in Jordan. The scientists found that the users were eager to adopt the system based on its ease of use and adoption rate. A questionnaire survey was distributed to 167 retail stores, delivery logistics employees, university students, and academics. The data collected were then analyzed using SPSS techniques such as POST HOC and ANOVA. To find a home delivery solution, we tested the suggested system app on both desktop and Smartphone platforms. The findings show that it is easier to locate a residential neighborhood. Customer trust and satisfaction with online purchases should increase due to the additional benefits of the system installation. Improve the effectiveness of home delivery services in Jordan with the use of artificial intelligence (AI). Both customers and stores prefer this system for online shopping rather than using postcodes. According to these data, experts can enhance their items by implementing digital sales strategies.

Accurate classification of Aquilaria oil species is essential for ensuring the quality and authenticity of agarwood oils, which are widely used in perfumes and traditional medicine. This study investigated the effectiveness of the k-nearest neighbours (k-NN) machine learning model for classifying Aquilaria oil species based on four significant chemical compounds: dihyro-βagarofuran, δ-guaiene, 10-epi-γ-eudesmol, and γ-eudesmol. The dataset comprised 480 samples of Aquilaria oil, which were analyzed using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and gas chromatography-flame ionization detector (GC-FID). The k-NN model, with an optimal k-value of 10 and using euclidean distance as the distance metric, achieved 100% accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, and precision in both training and testing datasets. These results demonstrate the robustness of k-NN in species identification, highlighting the discriminative power of the selected compounds. This study verifies that the integration of chemical profiling with machine learning offers a scalable solution for accurate species identification in the essential oil industry. Future work could explore hybrid models and data expansion techniques to further enhance the classification performance in more complex environmental conditions.

The wide area measurements systems (WAMS) play a vital role in the operation of smart grids. The phasor measurement units (PMU) or synchrophasors are one of the principle components under WAMS. PMU in a smart grid converts power system signals into phasor from voltage and current which enhances the observability of the power system. A variety of operations is performed by the PMUs such as adaptive relaying, instability prediction, state estimation, improved control, fault and disturbance recording, transmission and generation modeling verification, wide area protection and detection of fault location. The PMUs can improve the performance of grid operations and monitoring. Thus, PMU optimization is very necessary to achieve the desired power system observability. The performance of the PMUs can be optimized using artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. The novice method of monitoring maximum power transfer using PMUs equipped with artificial neural networks has been discussed in this paper. In this paper, a two-bus system model is developed that can be generalized to multiple bus systems. The proposed method is novel, simple, feasible, and cost effective for smart grids.

10.11591/csit.v6i2.p136-146
Alauddin Maulana Hirzan , April Firman Daru , Lenny Margaretta Huizen
Water quality plays a crucial role in the growth and survival of arowana fish, with imbalances in key parameters (pH, temperature, turbidity, dissolved oxygen, and conductivity) leading to increased mortality rates. While previous studies have introduced various monitoring models using Arduino IDE and intrinsic approaches, they lack predictive capabilities, leaving cultivators unable to take proactive measures. To address this gap, this study develops a predictive model integrating the internet of things (IoT) with a fuzzy time series (FTS) algorithm. Through rigorous evaluation and validation, the proposed FTS-multivariate T2 model demonstrated superior performance, achieving an exceptionally low error rate of 0.01704%, outperforming decision tree (0.13410%), FTS-multivariate T1 (0.88397%), and linear regression (20.91791%). These findings confirm that FTS-multivariate T2 not only accurately predicts water quality but also significantly reduces the mean absolute percentage error, providing a robust solution for sustainable arowana aquaculture.
