Dental caries remains a critical public health issue among children in Kosovo, caused by a complex interplay of dietary habits that contribute to the deterioration of oral health. This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of dental caries in adolescents aged 12 to 16 years and to identify associated risk factors. A cross-sectional study design was employed, involving 120 students from elementary schools in the Suhareka municipality, who underwent clinical oral examinations and completed self-administered questionnaires between January and June 2023. The caries prevalence was quantified using the decayed, missing, and filled teeth (DMFT) index. Statistical analysis, performed using SPSS 26.0, demonstrated a significant association between dietary behaviors and caries incidence, with higher consumption rates correlating with increased DMFT scores. ANOVA and Fisher’s post hoc tests were utilized to assess variables impacting caries progression, while the Chi-square test of independence was applied for intergroup comparisons. The status of permanent dentition was systematically evaluated through the DMFT index, with results interpreted within a 95% confidence interval. Both intrinsic and extrinsic factors affecting enamel resilience were explored, with an emphasis on developing targeted strategies to prevent dental deterioration and enhance oral health among adolescents. The outcomes of this study offer valuable insights for improving pediatric oral health in Kosovo and provide evidence-based recommendations for policymakers and healthcare professionals to formulate effective preventive strategies and public health interventions in similar demographic contexts.

With an increasing global population and more people living to the age when major depressive disorder (MDD) or post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) commonly occurs, the number of those who suffer from such disorders is rising. Studies have also shown a high likelihood of comorbidity between these 2 disorders. This comorbidity can worsen symptoms, increase the risk of chronicity, and complicate treatment, significantly impacting patients’ emotional wellbeing and social and occupational functioning. There is a need to enable faster and reliable diagnosis methods, while taking into account the subjectivity of individuals and the role of behavioural cues. The proposed approach analyses the combination of audio, video and text input features (multi-modal data) of the subject to determine the severity class of MDD and PTSD. The DistilBERT transformer is used for learning and building a model with the textual modality and random forest classifiers for the audio and video modalities. An ensemble of these 3 models from 3 modalities performs better in the final classification of MDD and PTSD when compared to individual models. This work also covers a comparison of the models with different splits on the dataset. This ensembled system shows an improved accuracy of 2% to 7% for the MDD and PTSD multi class classification over the models tested on individual modalities.

In order to prevent global warming, electric vehicles are increasingly recommended than gasoline-powered vehicles that have been widely used in the past. However, problems peculiar to electric vehicles exists, and their widespread utilize is not progressing in Japan and other developed countries. This study performed wireless power transfer assuming that electric vehicles are stationary on a road at some distance from an AC power supply. Frequency of a power supply has significant influence on efficiency of wireless power transfer, and it is important to adjust this value on any situation. Therefore, an experiment was conducted based on the optimal frequency expression derived in the past to confirm the correctness of the expression, finally it achieved 60% transport efficiency. Moreover, since the expression includes coupling coefficient between transmission and receiving inductors, its value must be estimated accurately. In this study, an experiment was conducted to estimate value of coupling coefficient using current and voltage values measured from outside circuits, and it was compared with a theoretical expression obtained from laws on electromagnetics.

10.11591/ijphs.v14i2.24703
Zihan Zhang , Chieko Kato
Community plays a pivotal role in older adults' well-being and long-term care issues. This study investigates how community factors, including community support and social participation, with self-assessment of health as an intervening variable, influence the use of formal care. Further, how a community contributes to older adults' well-being has also been discussed. Data was collected from older adults (men 150, women 150, age>60 y/o) and was analyzed by using structural equation modeling (SEM). This study used health as an intervening variable to investigate community factors' influence on formal care use. The results find a significant negative influence of social participation and self-assessment of health on the use of formal care. While community support was not found to influence the use of formal care significantly, both community support and social participation could negatively influence the use of formal care by positively influencing the self-assessment of health. Cohabitation has also been found to influence community support significantly positively. In China, where formal care still needs to be more developed, reducing over-reliance on formal care follows Chinese cultural values and economic considerations. Moreover, older people living alone need to be attended to by the community.

Carlos Cardoso , Romina Gomes , João Francisco , Maria Sapatinha , Cláudia Afonso , Narcisa M. Bandarra
The omega-3 index (O3I) is used as a biomarker for cardiovascular disease risk. The factors affecting O3I are not fully understood. A study was conducted in a representative sample of the Portuguese population (1,126 individuals) involving blood sampling for the determination of O3I and answering a questionnaire. Participants were asked to indicate their consumption frequencies and other relevant data. The average O3I of the population was 4.82±2.30%. There was a clear increasing trend of the O3I with higher amounts of consumed seafood, achieving an O3I of ~6% with three or more weekly meals. Age was a major determinant, presenting 50-79 year old males higher O3I values than 18-49. Physical activity led to higher O3I, 5.05±2.39% vs 4.64±2.21%. Smoking caused a lower O3I, 4.38±1.97% vs 4.89±2.34%. Physical activity had a larger effect upon O3I in consumers with high seafood consumption. In elderly (>70 year old), there was an inverse relation between O3I levels and high blood pressure. This study’s findings point to the importance of changing dietary habits in the direction of increasing seafood consumption and combining these nutritional changes with a healthier lifestyle (with more physical activity and no smoking) for a higher O3I and a lower cardiovascular disease incidence.
