This paper introduces a novel framework designed to bolster privacy protections within automated voice authentication systems, addressing mounting concerns as voice-based authentication grows in prominence. The widespread adoption of these systems has underscored apprehensions regarding the storage and processing of sensitive voice biometric data without adequate safeguards. To mitigate these risks, a modified framework is proposed, aiming to enhance privacy without compromising authentication accuracy and efficiency. Three key techniques are implemented to address these challenges. Firstly, advanced encryption methods are employed for secure voice data storage and transmission, through the homomorphic encryption to enable authentication processing on encrypted data. Secondly, a privacy-preserving feature extraction method is introduced, transforming raw voice inputs into irreversible representations to shield original biometric information. Additionally, the framework incorporates differential privacy mechanisms, adding controlled noise to aggregated voice data to prevent individual identification within large datasets. A user-centric consent and control model is proposed, empowering individuals to manage their voice profiles and authentication settings. Experimental findings demonstrate that the framework achieves enhanced authentication accuracy while markedly reducing privacy risks compared to conventional systems. This contribution addresses the ongoing challenge of balancing security and privacy in biometric authentication technologies.

The increase in the illegal use of lethal weapons at a global level has reachedworrying figures, resulting in an increase in assaults and armed robberies. Based on the above, closed circuit television (CCTV) surveillance systems emerge as an alternative solution. Therefore, the use of artificial intelligence is explored in order to detect the presence of lethal weapons in images accurately. In this study, a convolutional neural network model YOLOv8 is trained. A database including 4104 images with the presence of lethal weapons is generated. The Google Colab platform is used for the training phase, since it provides us with a free graphic processing unit (GPU), and the YOLOv8x and YOLOv8n models are used for comparison. The results indicate an advantage when using the YOLOv8 models, and when comparing them with similar models already proposed in the studied literature, we can conclude that our model stands out with an accuracy of 89.56% in the detection of lethal weapons. In conclusion, we were able to obtain a model capable of detecting lethal weapons in CCTV images, in addition to being able to be used in applications that require real-time detection.

COVID-19 has impacted education worldwide. In this troublesome situation, it is hard enough for an institution to predict a student’s performance. Students’ performance prediction has always been a complex task and this pandemic situation has led this task to be more complex. The main focus of this work is to come up with a machine learning model based on a classical machine learning technique to predict the change in students’ performance due to COVID-19. Initially, some relevant features are selected, based on which the data are collected from students of some private universities in Bangladesh. After the entire data set is formed, we preprocessed the dataset to remove redundancy and noise. These preprocessed data are used for testing and training using the proposed model. The model is extensively evaluated in this way using three separate classical machine learning techniques, namely linear regression, k-nearest neighbors (k-NN), and decision tree. Finally, the results of the entire experiment follow, demonstrating the power of the machine learning model in such an application. It is observed that the proposed model with linear regression exhibits the best performance with an R2 error of 0.07% and an accuracy of 99.84%.

Steganalysis aims to detect hidden messages within digital media, presenting a significant challenge in the field of information security. This paper introduces an adversarial-robust steganalysis system leveraging adversarial training and the powerful feature extraction capabilities of EfficientNet. We utilize EfficientNet to extract robust features from images, which are subsequently classified by a dense neural network to distinguish between steganographic and non-steganographic content. To enhance the system’s resilience against adversarial attacks, we implement a custom adversarial training loop that generates adversarial examples using the fast gradient sign method (FGSM) and integrates these examples into the training process. Our results demonstrate that the proposed system not only achieves high accuracy in detecting steganographic content but also maintains robustness against adversarial perturbations. This dual approach of leveraging state-of-the-art deep learning architectures and adversarial training provides a significant advancement in the field of steganalysis, ensuring more reliable detection of hidden messages in digital images.

The government funds research projects to address problems, advance knowledge, and support national development. Data repositories are often used to store this research information; however, such information is not optimally used when making the decision. This is particularly important, especially in the areas that require extensive effort and budget allocation to drive development, such as the southernmost provinces of Thailand. This area has been in a violent situation for more than twenty years, leading to poor education, economic challenges, and many more. This study aims to analyze the trends in research topics on these provinces over 30 years (1982–2020) using epistemic network analysis (ENA) on data from the Southern Border Provinces Research Database (SOREDA). Key findings showed a prolonged focus on “education” and “Islamic studies,” reflecting steady government support but raising concerns about its effectiveness. Another important point was that conflict management research arose in response to the surge in violence in 2004 and prolonged existing. The current trending research focused on local–based capital and how it is used to drive society and the economy, such as through tourism. These highlight evolving priorities in addressing the region's challenges and opportunities.

Low complexity rate control for versatile video coding with hybrid Lagrange multiplier

10.11591/ijece.v15i2.pp1686-1695
Alexander Victor Bukit , Suwadi Suwadi , Wirawan Wirawan
Versatile video coding (VVC) has a notable increase in encoding efficiency over high efficiency video coding (HEVC) but bandwidth and storage are limited in real-world video applications, so rate control is crucial. Even if VVC shows a notable increase in encoding capacity over HEVC, the rate control may create fluctuations in video quality and computational complexity. This fluctuation can have a significant impact on the watching experience, particularly in low-bitrate settings. The rate control variables of the consistent resolution and the decreased resolution are proposed in order to make the rate control method hybrid to consistent resolutions and reduce computational complexity. To achieve optimal coding parameters, the frames with varying resolutions Lagrange multiplier (λ), skip coding tree unit (CTU) and quantization parameter (QP) are combined. After evaluation, the average encoding time savings (𝑇𝑠𝑎𝑣𝑖𝑛𝑔) were found to be 19.49%, with a Bjontegaard delta bit rate (BDBR) of -0.44% indicating insignificant quality loss.

This research presents a modification of the horned lizard optimization (HLO) algorithm to optimize proportional integral derivative (PID) parameters in direct current (DC) motor control. This hybrid method is called horned lizard optimization algorithm-aquila optimizer (HLAO). The HLO algorithm models various escape tactics, including blood spraying, skin lightening or darkening, crypsis, and cellular defense systems, using mathematical techniques. HLO enhancement by modifying additional functions of aquila optimizer improves HLO performance. This research validates the performance of HLAO using performance tests on the CEC2017 benchmark function and DC motors. From the CEC2017 benchmark function simulation, it is known that HLAO's performance has promising capabilities. By simulating using 3 types of benchmark functions, HLOA has the best value. Tests on DC motors showed that the HLAO-PID method had the best integrated of time-weighted squared error (ITSE) value. The ITSE value of HLOA is 89.25 and 5.7143% better than PID and HLO-PID.

The rise of social media has allowed individuals to express themselves freely, increasing the visibility of mental health concerns, including suicidal tendencies. This issue is particularly significant, as suicide is one of the leading causes of death globally. The objective of this study is to develop a model capable of accurately detecting suicide-related textual data using advanced natural language processing techniques. To achieve this, we applied transfer learning models, including bidirectional encoder representations from transformers (BERT), robustly optimized bidirectional encoder representations from transformers (RoBERT), a lite BERT (ALBERT), and decoding-enhanced BERT with disentangled attention (DeBERTa). the dataset used in this research includes 232,074 posts from Reddit, categorized into suicide and non-suicide labels. Preprocessing steps such as removing HTML tags, special characters, and punctuation were applied, followed by stopword removal and lemmatization. The models were trained and evaluated using accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score metrics. Among the models tested, DeBERTa demonstrated superior performance, achieving an accuracy of 98.70% and an F1-score of 98.70%. These findings suggest that transfer learning models, particularly DeBERTa, are effective in identifying suicidal ideation in textual data.

The imminent rise of 5th generation (5G) wireless standards heralds a pivotal era in cellular communication. Among the challenges faced, selecting an optimal multiple access technique stands out as crucial for achieving the desired blend of low latency, high data rates, and throughput. Generalized frequency division multiplexing (GFDM) emerges as a promising can-didate meeting 5G requirements. This study introduces two innovative pulse shaping filters (PSFs) the better than raised cosine filter (BRCF) and modified bartlett hanning filter (MBHF) paired with various modulation schemes such as binary phase shift keying (BPSK), quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK), and quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) to assess GFDM signal performance. Considering its spectrum efficiency, QAM modulation emerges as the preferred choice. Performance evaluation of the PSFs entails analyzing symbol error rate (SER) against signal to noise ratio (SNR) across different modulation schemes.
