Lithium-ion (li-ion) batteries have a high energy density and a long cycle life. Lithium-ion batteries have a finite lifespan, and their energy storage capacity diminishes with use. In order to properly plan battery maintenance, the state of health (SoH) of lithium-ion batteries is crucial. This study aims to combine two deep learning techniques (hybrid deep learning), namely convolutional neural network (CNN) and bidirectional long short-term memory (BiLSTM), for SoH estimation in li-ion batteries. This study contrasts hybrid deep learning methods to single deep learning models so that the most suitable model for accurately measuring the SoH in lithium-ion batteries can be determined. In comparison to other methodologies, CNN-BiLSTM yields the best results. The CNN-BiLSTM algorithm yields RMSE, mean square error (MSE), mean absolute error (MAE), and mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) in the following order: 0.00916, 0.000084, 0.0048, and 0.00603. This indicates that CNN-BiLSTM, as a hybrid deep learning model, is able to calculate the approximate capacity of the lithium-ion battery more accurately than other methods.

This study aimed to automatically classify rice seedling germination on day seven using image analysis. The categories included normal, abnormal, and dead seeds. Due to the rarity of abnormal seedlings, capturing their images resulted in imbalanced data. To address this, abnormal categories were combined into a single class. We compared logistic regression, random forest, and deep learning models (VGG19, VGG16, Alex Net) for classification. Surprisingly, logistic regression achieved the highest accuracy (93.89%) and F1-scores (0.96 normal, 0.81 abnormal) despite the imbalanced data and complex task. The effectiveness of logistic regression for rice seedling classification with imbalanced data has been demonstrated in this novel research. Historically, deep learning models dominate image recognition, but our findings suggest simpler models can excel in specific scenarios, especially with limited data availability. This highlights the importance of selecting models based on data characteristics. The urgency for this research stems from the need for efficient and accurate rice seedling evaluation. Improved classification can enhance agricultural practices and optimize resource allocation.

The increasing prevalence of infection-causing diseases due to environmental factors and lifestyle choices has strained the healthcare system, necessitating advanced techniques to save lives. Disease prediction plays a crucial role in identifying individuals at risk, enabling early treatment, and benefiting governments and health insurance providers. The collaboration between biomedicine and data science, particularly artificial intelligence and machine learning, has led to significant advancements in this field. However, researchers face challenges related to data availability and quality. Clinical and hospital data, crucial for accurate predictions, are often confidential and not freely accessible. Moreover, healthcare data is predominantly unstructured, requiring extensive cleaning, preprocessing, and labeling. This study aims to predict the likelihood of patients transitioning to mental illness by monitoring addiction conditions and constructing treatment protocols, with the goal of modifying these protocols accordingly. We focus on predicting such transformations to illuminate the underlying factors behind shifts in mental health. To achieve this objective, data from an Iraqi hospital has been collected and analyzed yielding promising results.

Technological development could enable pre-service teachers to adopt web design with strong pedagogy, however adaptation requires still unclear an explicit exploration of the factors. This study aimed to identify the effect of technological pedagogical content knowledge (TPACK) on motivation, self-regulation, and learning achievement. It surveyed 406 pre-service teachers from 12 higher education institutions in Indonesia. Data validity and reliability were checked using an exploratory factor, confirmatory, and part analyses. The partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) results showed that TPACK has the most significant role in learning motivation. The result shows that technology integration knowledge also significantly affects self-regulated learning (SRL). In addition, pre-service teachers’ TPACK supports their learning motivation to use the web, as well as their academic achievement. Moreover, most students’ achievements were constructed by TPACK, learning motivation, and self-regulation. This study implies that the instructor should clarify the project mission and the inquiry system activities in the educational technology course.

Enhancing sentiment analysis through deep layer integration with long short-term memory networks

10.11591/ijece.v15i1.pp949-957
Parul Dubey , Pushkar Dubey , Hitesh Gehani
This involves studying one of the most important parts of natural language processing (NLP): sentiment, or whether a thing that makes a sentence is neutral, positive, or negative. This paper presents an enhanced long short-term memory (LSTM) network for the sentiment analysis task using an additional deep layer to capture sublevel patterns from the word input. So, the process that we followed in our approach is that we cleaned the data, preprocessed it, built the model, trained the model, and finally tested it. The novelty here lies in the additional layer in the architecture of LSTM model, which improves the model performance. We added a deep layer with the intention of improving accuracy and generalizing the model. The results of the experiment are analyzed using recall, F1-score, and accuracy, which in turn show that the deep-layered LSTM model gives us a better prediction. The LSTM model outperformed the baseline in terms of accuracy, recall, and f1-score. The deep layer's forecast accuracy increased dramatically once it was trained to capture intricate sequences. However, the improved model overfitted, necessitating additional regularization and hyperparameter adjustment. In this paper, we have discussed the advantages and disadvantages of using deep layers in LSTM networks and their application to developing models for deep learning with better-performing sentiment analysis.

The internet of things (IoT) encompasses various devices for monitoring, data collection, tracking people and assets, and interacting with other gadgets without human intervention. Implementing a system for predicting the development and assessing the criticality of detected attacks is essential for ensuring security in IoT interactions. This work analyses existing methods for detecting attacks, including machine learning, deep learning, and ensemble methods, and explores the federated learning (FL) method. The aim is to study FL to enhance security, develop a methodology for predicting the development of attacks, and assess their criticality in real-time. FL enables devices and the aggregation server to jointly train a common global model while keeping the original data locally on each client. We demonstrate the performance of the proposed methodology against structured query language (SQL) injection and brute force attacks using the CICIOT2023 dataset. We used accuracy and F1 score metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of our proposed methodology. As a result, the accuracy in predicting SQL injection reached 100%, and for brute force attacks, it reached 98.25%. The high rates of experimental results clearly show that the proposed FL-based attack prediction methodology can be used to ensure security in IoT interactions.
