Mehtab Fatima , Anwar Shahzad Siddiqui , Sanjay Kumar Sinha
The integration of renewable energy sources, particularly grid-tied solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, into the modern power grid has become increasingly prevalent. However, ensuring the reliable and efficient operation of grid-tied PV systems under various grid conditions, including fault scenarios, poses a significant challenge. In the event of grid faults or disturbances, traditional control methods often fall short in maintaining stable and reliable operation. This paper introduces a multi-layer neural network (MLNN) based MPPT controller that adapts intelligently to grid fault conditions, mitigating the impact on the grid-tied PV system's performance and providing low voltage ride through (LVRT). The research employs a detailed simulation framework on MATLAB to validate the effectiveness of the proposed controller under fault conditions. The LVRT capability of the designed system was analyzed and validated according to Indian grid code. The proposed controller leverages its capacity to learn and make real-time decisions to optimize the active and reactive power outputs of the PV system as per the grid code. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed controller not only improves the fault tolerance of grid-tied PV systems but also enhances their performance, ensuring a stable and continuous power supply in the face of grid disturbances.

Navita Dhaka , Meenakshi Hooda , Vinita Yadav , Sumeet Gill
Steganography aims to conceal secret data within images without affecting image quality. Traditional methods often struggle with balancing simplicity, effectiveness and payload capacity while maintaining imperceptibility. Proposed algorithm: the paper proposed a novel steganographic mshEdgeRGB_T1 algorithm that combines Mamdani fuzzy type-1 logic with the least significant bit (LSB) method. The LSB method is chosen for its simplicity and effectiveness in hiding messages. The mshEdgeRGB_T1 algorithm focuses on embedding secret messages in edge pixels, detecting more edge pixels compared to other methods, thus increasing payload capacity. Findings: the algorithm’s performance is evaluated using metrics such as peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR), mean squared error (MSE) and histogram analysis to measure the similarity between the cover and Stego images, quantifying the level of imperceptibility. Experimental analysis demonstrates that the mshEdgeRGB_T1 algorithm offers improved payload capacity, enhanced security and reduced imperceptibility compared to many existing methods. Conclusion: the proposed mshEdgeRGB_T1 algorithm effectively balances simplicity, payload capacity and image quality, making it a better use for image steganography.

10.11591/ijeecs.v37.i1.pp288-299
Farhanna Mar’i , Ahmad Afif Supianto
Federated learning (FL) is an emerging approach to distributed learning from decentralized data, designed with privacy concerns in mind. FL has been successfully applied in several fields, such as the internet of things (IoT), human activity recognition (HAR), and natural language processing (NLP), showing remarkable results. However, the development of FL in real-world applications still faces several challenges. Recent optimizations of FL have been made to address these issues and enhance the FL settings. In this paper, we categorize the optimization of FL into five main challenges: Communication Efficiency, Heterogeneity, Privacy and Security, Scalability, and Convergence Rate. We provide an overview of various optimization frameworks for FL proposed in previous research, illustrated with concrete examples and applications based on these five optimization goals. Additionally, we propose two optional integrated conceptual frameworks (CFs) for optimizing FL by combining several optimization methods to achieve the best implementation of FL that addresses the five challenges.

Rotsnarani Sethy , Soumya Ranjan Mahanta , Mrutyunjaya Panda
The vast amount of data stored nowadays has turned big data analytics into a very promising research field. Clustering is an essential step in data analysis, widely used for classification, collecting statistics, and acquiring insights in specific domains of knowledge. However, the most of existing algorithms based on Lloyd-Forgy’s method, have an enormously huge average-case complexity while clustering data sets with a large number of features, which may be superpolynomial time (NP-hard) and are severely constrained in terms of speed, productivity, and adaptability. Aiming to improve Lloyd-Forgy’s clustering performance, K-means++ algorithms, a variety of algorithm-level optimizations which is not been well-studied, is discussed along with very promising gaussian mixture model (GMM) and soft clustering based Fuzzy C-means (FCM). Further, for fast and distributed data processing and to leverage the benefits of big data platforms, such as Apache Spark, Spark-based clustering methods are applied on three-dimensional (3D) road network data set which is collected from UCI repository. However, Spark-based clustering research is still in infancy. The distributed computation tests are conducted by allocating two core processors and one databricks unit (DBU) with 15 GB memory and measuring execution times, as well as root mean square error (RMSE), mean absolute error (MAE), clustering accuracy, and silhouette values. The results are promising and provide new research directions in the field of spark-based clustering on big data.

Single search investigation of various searches in recent swarm-based metaheuristics

10.11591/ijeecs.v37.i1.pp186-196
Purba Daru Kusuma , Ashri Dinimaharawati
Swarm intelligence has become a popular framework for developing new metaheuristics or stochastic optimization methods in recent years. Many swarm-based metaheuristics are developed by employing multiple searches whether it is conducted through swarm split, serial searches, stochastic choose. Unfortunately, many existing studies that introduced new metaheuristic focused on assessing the performance of the proposed method as a single package. On the other hand, the contribution of each search constructing the metaheuristic is still unknown as the consequence of the missing of single or individual search assessment. Based on this problem, this work is aimed to investigate the performance of five directed searches that are commonly found in recent swarm-based metaheuristics individually. These five searches include: motion toward the highest quality member, motion relative to a randomly chosen member, motion relative to a random solution along the space, motion toward a randomly chosen higher quality member, and motion toward the middle among higher quality members. In this assessment, these five searches are challenged to find the optimal solution of 23 classic functions. The result shows that the first, fourth, and five searches perform better than the second and third searches.

This research aims to improve the performance of a-Si: H solar cells, particularly in terms of carrier transport properties, through a numerical design approach utilizing AFORS-HET simulation software. By performing a series of rigorous computer simulations, we explore the potential regulation of the intrinsic layer thickness, carrier mobility, loading factor, and density of states (DoS) distribution in the solar cell's intrinsic layer. Recombination losses are reduced, and light absorption efficiency is significantly increased when the intrinsic layer thickness is adjusted, as shown by simulation findings. Moreover, reduction of transit times and enhancement of the total efficiency of the solar cells depend on increased carrier mobility. Parameters can be adjusted to attain optimal performance under various operating situations by adjusting the DoS and load factors. Furthermore, the simulations provide insightful information about the interactions between the junctions in solar cells with double junctions. Our results of this research provide an important contribution to efforts to develop more efficient and sustainable a-Si: H solar cells and emphasize the importance of numerical design approaches in photovoltaic technology.

Businesses can offer support to customers outside of usual business hours and across time zones by employing chatbots, which can provide round-the-clock support. Chatbots can react to user inquiries quickly, reducing wait times and improving customer satisfaction. It becomes challenging for the chatbot to differentiate between two queries that users pose that carry the same meaning, making it harder for it to understand and react appropriately. The aim of this research is to develop a chatbot capable of understanding the semantic meaning of questions as well as recognizing various speech patterns, accents, and dialects to provide accurate responses. In this research, we have implemented a voice-enabled chatbot system where users can verbally pose questions, and the chatbot provides responses through voice assistance. The architecture incorporates several key components: a question-answer database, OpenAI embedding for semantic representation, and OpenAI text-to-speech (TTS) and speech-to-text (STT) for audio-to-text and text-to-audio conversion, respectively. Specifically, OpenAI embedding is utilized to encode questions and responses into vector representations, enabling efficient similarity calculations. Additionally, extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost) is trained on OpenAI embeddings to identify similarities between user queries and questions within the dataset. This framework allows for seamless interaction between users and the chatbot, leveraging state-of-the-art technologies in natural language processing (NLP) and speech recognition. The outcome demonstrates that the XGBoost model delivers excellent outcomes when it is trained on OpenAI embedding and tuned with the particle swarm optimizer (PSO). The OpenAI-generated embedding has good potential for capturing sentence similarity and provides excellent information for models trained on it.

The rise in power transformer load results in degradation of the condition of the transformer oil and ultimately a deficiency in the distribution of electrical energy. This degradation can be slowed down by reconditioning transformer oil based on oil color detection. This research aims to design, test and validate a transformer oil color testing system based on color sensor and microcontroller. To obtain an accurate system, tests were carried out on selecting the types of sensors, the color of the chamber walls, and the shapes of transformer oil sample vessel used. The oil color scale of the samples was determined visually according to the ASTMD1500, 2009 standard as a benchmark. The test results showed that the TCS3200 color sensor was able to detect the color of all transformer oil samples. White chamber wall and test tube as oil sample containers were chosen to increase system accuracy. Overall, the system is able to detect the color of transformer oil, convert to the ASTMD1500, 2009 standard transformer oil color scale, determine the condition of the transformer oil and conclude the level of transformer oil degradation according to CIGRE-761, 2019. Validation results showed the system had an accuracy level of 92.65%.

Abd Allah Aouragh , Mohamed Bahaj , Fouad Toufik
Early identification of hypertension is crucial to prevent its serious complications, which can lead to devastating health effects by threatening lifestyle quality and significantly increasing premature mortality. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of machine learning techniques in predicting the presence of hypertension from an unbalanced dataset consisting of 4,363 records and 35 features. To balance the dataset, we employed the synthetic minority over-sampling technique (SMOTE) algorithm. In addition, to select the most relevant features, we used ant colony optimization. Next, we applied various algorithms, including logistic regression (LR), K-nearest neighbors (KNNs), support vector machine (SVM), extra trees (ETs), and AdaBoost (AB). We also evaluated the optimization of hyperparameters using two methods: Bayesian optimization (BO) and particle swarm optimization (PSO). The results reveal that the combination of AB with BO demonstrated superior performance, with an accuracy of 97.60%, a recall of 98.93%, and a precision of 98.59%. This research emphasizes the potential of machine learning techniques for anticipating hypertension and highlights the importance of optimization techniques in improving predictive models’ performance.

Due to the increasing concern on how to manage wastes and ensure environmental safety across the globe, a new tool that assists in the monitoring of methane, humidity, and temperature in the landfill using internet of things (IoT) has been created. This system uses ESP32 microcontroller and MQ-4 and DHT-22 sensors to measure environmental conditions at three different spots in a landfill. The samples of data are collected at three times a day, that is, in the morning at 7:00 am, at midday at 12:00 pm and in the evening at 5:00 pm and the data is transmitted to an online sheet where the public can access it in real time hence increasing transparency in the management of wastes. The tool shows a very good precision and effectiveness and the parameters are 94. 6% data integrity over three months testing period. The first findings show that the mean methane concentration is the highest at midday, which is related to the temperature and underlines the role of temperature in the methane emission process. The presented IoT based monitoring system also enhances the accuracy and efficiency in the monitoring of landfill gas and at the same time reduces the intervention of human effort and increases the capability to make prompt adjustments to changes in the environment. Used as an instrument for obtaining accurate and easily understandable data, it is hoped that this tool will in some way help to enhance global environmental health and safety standards, and help pave a way for methane storage for renewable energy purposes.
