Low physical activity increases the number of non-communicable diseases. This phenomenon occurs in medical students. This study aimed to determine the correlation between sedentary behavior and physical activity on cognition, mental health, cortisol, and brain derived neurotropic factor (BDNF). Using a cross-sectional design of observational study, eighty-six medical students were involved in this study. The subjects were interviewed to assess cognitive function and depression levels. Saliva was taken to measure cortisol and BDNF level. Bivariate analysis was performed using the Spearman test. Depression is the only variable that correlates significantly with habitual physical activity (p=0.025, r=-0.214). Sedentary behavior has a weak correlation with cognitive failure, anxiety, and depression ([p=0.046, r=0.216]; [p=0.039, r=0.223]; [p=0.011, r=0.273]). The results found that high physical activity improves mental health and cognition. This study suggested that physical activity can alleviate symptoms of depression and anxiety among medical students.

The way of learning in higher education needs a revaluation, which should consider cooperation as one of the principles to improve the cognitive, procedural, and attitudinal learning of students whose training will allow them to integrate effectively into the work environment. The objective of the study was to validate the consistency of the collaborative learning scale (CLS) using the bifactor structural equation model (SEM) in university students from Junín. It presented a quantitative approach, through a deductive method, of demonstrative and inferential scope and a non-experimental design. The sample was of the probabilistic type, composed of 361 students of the Faculty of Health Sciences from cycles I to VIII at Huancayo University-2023. The results verified that the use of an original bifactor SEM allows the identification of multidimensional sources present in complex psychological measures, such as the evaluation instrument under study. In conclusion, thanks to the analysis of the Chi-square differences between the second-order model and the bifactor model, it can be verified that the bifactor model has a better fit than the second-order model because it has a lower X², a lower root mean square error of approximation (RMSEA), a lower weighted root mean residual (WRMR), and a higher ω.

Efficient smart distributed face identification using the MixMaxSim decision function

10.11591/ijece.v14i6.pp7145-7157
Sayed Mohammad Ahmadi , Rouhollah Dianat
Recognizing a large number of people is a common challenge in face identification applications, involving decreased accuracy, increased memory and time complexities. To address these issues, this study introduces a three-module approach: “toilers,” “affinity-meter,” and “decision-maker.” Unlike the random distribution methods used in previous solutions, this method employs clustering to distribute the problem into subnetworks called “toilers.” The toiler’s module calculates the likelihood of test data belonging to each class of each toiler, using the last layer outputs of deep learning models. Meanwhile, the affinity-meter module determines the similarity between the test data and the average of each class, employing a similarity measure. The decision-maker module combines the reports from the previous two modules and selects the final class, utilizing a mix of the max-max criterion and the similarity criterion. The proposed method outperforms existing solutions, achieving improved recall, precision, and F1-score. It effectively addresses memory, speed, and accuracy issues in face identification, surpassing both no-distribution and random methods on Glint360K, VGGFace2, and MS-Celeb-1M datasets. Overall, this method offers a more efficient and accurate approach by distributing the problem into subnetworks, demonstrating superior performance and scalability for large-scale face recognition applications.

Basma Mohammad Al-Hawamdeh , Israa Omar Abu Alkishek , Haitham Mohammad Ali Zureigat
Private universities in Jordan have witnessed a major shift in teaching methods and strategies, as e-learning techniques have become an integral part of the educational policies followed. Therefore, the study aimed to identify the effect of social studies teachers’ use of e-learning techniques in developing the perceived self-competencies of university students, depending on gender and field of specialization. To achieve this, the descriptive analytical method was used in conducting the study. The perceived self-efficacy test was applied to a sample of 292 university students who were randomly selected. The study found that e-learning techniques contributed to raising the level of perceived self-efficacy among males more than among females. It did not have a significant impact on its interaction with the student’s field of specialization. The results also indicate the importance of the role played by social studies teachers with technological educational techniques in improving the level of students’ self-efficacy. Moreover, social relations are among the most important factors contributing to building a conscious generation that preserves human dignity. Therefore, we must research the negatives of e learning to find out the reason behind the lack of improvement in the level of perceived self-efficacy among females.

The rapid adoption of digital technologies in education highlights the importance of closing the digital divide in education. However, research on school connectivity policy regimes to bridge the digital divide in education in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) region is lacking. The authors conducted a systematic review of policies in Cambodia, Malaysia, Thailand, and the Philippines following a framework synthesis approach. Through desk research, data was identified based on a supply and demand side framework and included policy documents from relevant ministries and departments, reports by international development organizations and non-governmental organizations, and academic literature. The analysis reveals an imbalance between supply and demand-side policies and regulatory approaches with governments in the analyzed countries favoring demand side policies.

Internet of things (IoT) systems have experienced significant growth in data traffic, resulting in security and real-time processing issues. Intrusion detection systems (IDS) are currently an indispensable tool for self-protection against various attacks. However, IoT systems face serious challenges due to the functional diversity of attacks, resulting in detection methods with machine learning (ML) and limited static models generated by the linear discriminant analysis (LDA) algorithm. The process entails adjusting the model parameters in real time as new data arrives. This paper proposes a new method of an IDS based on the LDA algorithm with the incremental model. The model framework is trained and tested on the IoT intrusion dataset (UNSW-NB15) using the streaming linear discriminant analysis (SLDA) ML algorithm. Our approach increased model accuracy after each training, resulting in continuous model improvement. The comparison reveals that our dynamic model becomes more accurate after each batch and can detect new types of attacks.

This work addresses a full truckload commodity selection and multiple depot vehicle routing problem with time windows (FTSMDVRPTW). The goal of the problem is to design a set of selective truck routes that maximize overall profit subject to time window constraints. Each truck route is an arrangement of full truckload transportation commodities that begins at a departure point and ends at an arrival point. It is unnecessary to serve all commodities; only those that provide a higher profit are chosen. We introduce a meta-heuristic based on a combination of fuzzy logic controller (FLC) and genetic algorithm (GA) to solve the FTSMDVRPTW, where the crossover and mutation rates are adjusted during the GA’s evolutionary process using an FLC. We demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed FLC+GA through experimental results on randomly generated instances for the considered problem.

This study addresses the critical need for an accurate aspect-based sentiment-analysis (ABSA) model to understand sentiments effectively. The existing ABSA models often face challenges in accurately extracting aspects and determining sentiment polarity from textual data. Therefore, we propose a novel approach leveraging latent-Dirichlet-allocation (LDA) for aspect extraction and transformer-based bidirectional-encoder-representations from transformers (TF-BERT) for sentiment-polarity evaluation. The experiments were carried out on SemEval 2014 laptop and restaurant datasets. Also, a multi-domain dataset was generated by combining SemEval 2014, Amazon, and hospital reviews. The results demonstrate the superiority of the LDA-TF-BERT model, achieving 82.19% accuracy and 79.52% Macro-F1 score for the laptop task and 86.26% accuracy of 87.26% and 81.27% for Macro-F1 score for the restaurant task. This showcases the model's robustness and effectiveness in accurately analyzing textual data and extracting meaningful insights. The novelty of our work lies in combining LDA and TF-BERT, providing a comprehensive and accurate ABSA solution for various industries, thereby contributing significantly to the advancement of sentiment analysis techniques.

The potential for the 2023 global recession has troubled people worldwide, particularly in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. This study employs a sentiment analysis approach to examine how the Indonesian internet community, particularly on Twitter, perceives the topics related to the global economic recession. We collected 11,017 uploaded tweets that were analyzed using support vector machine classifier with linear, radial basis function (RBF), sigmoid, and polynomial kernel schemes. Furthermore, we optimized the classifiers with C, Gamma, and degree hyperparameters. Empirical evidence indicates a lack of preparedness to face a global recession, evidenced by most responses towards 2023 global recession exhibiting concerns about high inflation and economic instability. The finding also suggests that the optimized RBF is a superior modeling kernel relative to others. Collectively, these results provide insights with significant implications for sentiment analysis, natural language processing, and the study of behavioural economics.
