Customization of GPRS, and Wi-Fi device drivers for PXA270 of Linux OS based barcode scanner

10.11591/ijres.v11.i1.pp84-92
Prabhakar Pujeri , Sanket S. Naik Dessai
To access any device, it is necessary to have an access point. A device driver is an entry point to access a device. This project is aimed to customize the Wi-Fi and general packet radio service (GPRS) device drivers in Linux OS for PXA270 (Intel Xscale ARM processor). Customizing a device driver is a special way of designing software that can be more easily ported from one architecture to another without rewriting it from scratch. The paper is discussing about the customisation of Wi-Fi and GPRS device driver in Linux OS for PXA270 (Intel Xscale ARM processor). To develop a device driver, it is necessary to understand the processor architecture and Linux kernel internals and other design constraints. Since dynamically loaded driver module is attached to the existing kernel, and any error in the driver will crash the entire system. Resource allocation and implementation for a device is one of the main concerns for device driver developers. The device resources are input/output, memory, IRQs and ports. The required toolchain to build the cross-complier for the Intel Xscale ARM processor was built on Linux platform. The customised device drivers of Wi-Fi, and GPRS was customised, and the customised images are made to port for PXA270 processor architecture on EMX-270 board. With all the supporting parameters the kernel images with drivers are build and ported efficiently. Also, a successful verification and testing had been performed for their functionalities.

Recent studies show that social media has become an integral part of everyone's daily routine. People often use it to convey their ideas, opinions, and critiques. Consequently, the increasing use of social media has motivated malicious users to misuse online social media anonymity. Thus, these users can exploit this advantage and engage in socially unacceptable behavior. The use of inappropriate language on social media is one of the greatest societal dangers that exist today. Therefore, there is a need to monitor and evaluate social media postings using automated methods and techniques. The majority of studies that deal with offensive language classification in texts have used English datasets. However, the enhancement of offensive language detection in Arabic has gotten less consideration. The Arabic language has different rules and structures. This article provides a thorough review of research studies that have made use of artificial intelligence (AI) for the identification of Arabic offensive language in various contexts.

During the coronavirus desease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, athletes must be able to adapt to new habits, such as: social restriction, change of competition schedule, and sending back home. This situation has led to an 18.2% increase in sleep disturbances. This study aimed to look at the sleep duration of adolescent athletes during the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on athlete’s health conditions. A total of 126 adolescent athletes from 15 sports were recruited in this cross-sectional study. Adequate sleep duration was assessed according to the American Academy of Sleep Medicine criteria. Data on health conditions, medical history, injury history, were taken using a questionnaire. Behavioral assessment was assessed through the strengths and difficulties questionnaire. About 80.2% of adolescent athletes had insufficient sleep, and there was a significant relationship between sleep duration and disease incidence with a relative risk (RR) of 3.31 (1.32-8.28) 95% convidence interval (CI). There was no significant relationship between adequate sleep duration and health conditions (p>0.05). Things that may be the cause of sleep disturbances; use of electronic devices (37.6%), environmental conditions (53.4%), and worry (9%). In the end, this indicates adolescent athletes face difficulties in achieving adequate sleep duration during this pandemic and a continuous surveillance system is needed to monitor athletes outside the dormitory.

10.11591/ijeecs.v25.i3.pp1825-1830
Nur Asyiqin Binti Mohd Isa , Zikri Abadi Baharudin , Izdihartun Najihah Binti Ahmad Daud , Hidayat Zainuddin
This paper presents the characteristic of the positive attempted leaders preceded by positive narrow bipolar pulses (NPBPs). Attempted leaders are the preliminary breakdown process with no subsequent event (return stroke). On the other hand, narrow bipolar pulse is the lightning event commonly isolated and produces a strong electromagnetic field (in a short period). Attempted leaders hardly occurred in the tropics, and the preceding of the NBP (the combination) should be considered unique. In this present study, we found four samples in which the arithmetic means of duration of NPBPs pulse was 32.19 µs, with separation between the positive attempted leader was 1.86 ms apart. For the positive attempted leader, the arithmetic means of the whole pulse train, individual pulse and interval pulse of positive attempted leaders were 3.47 ms, 29.66 µs and 486.53 µs, respectively. The pulse train in this study seems to fade out fast compared to the isolated positive attempted leader pulse train. Next, the NPBP's pulse duration in this study shows well in agreement with the type of isolated NPBPs indicates that the association does not affect its pulse duration characteristic already present in the title.

10.11591/ijres.v11.i1.pp49-58
Hanen Abbes , Hafedh Abid , Kais loukil , Mohamed Abid , Ahmad Toumi
Microprocessors and microcontrollers are mostly used to control electrical systems. These chips front into problems while monitoring systems that need heavy computing and important processing. Likewise, they fail while handling inputs and outputs speeds, especially with multi-channel photovoltaic (PV) systems. In comparison to a digital signal processor (DSP) and microcontroller implementations, field programmable gate array (FPGA) device is able to integrate a great number of PV channels and to achieve short development time, cost less and more flexible operation. As well, new control algorithms are increasingly complex; using new performing technologies is very motivating. Mainly, FPGA technology is adopted thanks to its ability to control complex applications and intelligent laws. In opposition to traditional controls, fuzzy logic based control presents more efficiency and reliability response for non-linear systems. Therefore, this paper deals with the execution of the fuzzy-based maximum power point tracking (MPPT) technique by the means of the FPGA chip for a multi-channel photovoltaic system. A multi-channel photovoltaic system is designed. Then, the FPGA circuit is investigated to get benefits from this hardware solution. Since software implementation way integrates a limited number of PV panels, hardware implementation is a promising solution that reduces execution time and therefore controls a huge number of photovoltaic channels. Finally, results of simulation of the fuzzy technique implementation on FPGA chip show that the proposed PV system controls more than 4400 channels. Therefore, the system output power is increased and the system profitability is improved.

Suprajitno Suprajitno , Sri Mugianti
The use of tobacco, inactivity, alcohol consumption, and an unbalanced diet are factors that cause non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and are considered behavioral factors. Behavior includes knowledge, attitudes, and practice about periodic health checks, getting rid of cigarettes, regular physical activity, a balanced healthy diet, adequate rest, and managing stress (CERDIK) and can be used as a way to measure the risk of an individual suffering from NCDs. The purpose of this study is to describe the individual risk of suffering from NCDs based on the CERDIK behavior. This qualitative study used a cross-sectional design. A sample of 238 individuals who visited fast food restaurants in Blitar were selected by simple random sampling. Data collection used a CERDIK behavior questionnaire consisted of 20 knowledge questions, 29 attitude statements, and 20 practice statements. Data collection was conducted in July - August 2020. The risk of individuals suffering from NCDs in the low category was 8.4%, 81.1% moderate, and 10.5% high. Practice has an important role in individuals at risk of suffering from NCDs and most individuals are in the moderate category, while a small proportion are in the low and high risk category. It is hoped that health workers routinely and continuously campaign for CERDIK behavior as an effort to prevent NCDs.

Optical burst switching (OBS) is a transporting network for the optical internet in the years ahead vision. As OBS depends on statistical multiplexing, the effect of contention resolution is the main issue to achieve a low probability losing of burst. Basically, there are different ways to resolve contentions in the OBS networks like wavelength conversion, deflection routing, burst segmentation and optical buffering using fiber delay lines. Burst segmentation and deflection routing as well as fiber delay lines technologies, are discussed among the various accessible conflict resolution techniques in this study. However, the main aim of this study is to demonstrate that, the performance of fiber delay line (FDL) is better than other techniques to resolve contention by comparing the performance of these different schemes based on burst losing probabilities and the data handling capability. To evaluate the performance, appropriate mathematical formulae were used. Under the MATLAB environment, the performance was measured based on the probability of burst loss versus incoming traffic (load). The outcomes suggest that deflection routing outperforms fiber delay lines and burst segmentation in the OBS network in terms of resolve the contention.

Load shifting impact on generating adequacy assessment during peak period

10.11591/ijeecs.v25.i3.pp1217-1226
Malik Abdulrazzaq Alsaedi , Hussein Jumma Jabir , Baraa Munqith Albaker
The load shifting technique is widely implemented in electrical power generation due to its considerable impact on system reliability. The evaluation of load shifting benefits towards the adequacy of generation systems requires an accurate assessment. If the generation unit’s capacity is insufficient to meet the system load, then assistance is required from alternative sources. Load shifting, as a primary demand-side management technique, is used efficiently in electrical power networks given that the energy clipped/curtailed owing to load curtailment and peak clipping can be recovered during the off-peak period. The reliability of a generic framework for the prospective integration of a load shifting technique, with preventative and corrective actions as alternatives to peaking units, is investigated in this study. The optimal rate of load shifting in terms of expected energy not supplied is also investigated. Results show that preventive load shifting (PLS) can act as peaking units when the total generated capacity is within specific limits. Meanwhile, corrective load shifting can act as a better alternative than PLS and peaking units. To calculate expected energy not supplied, sequential Monte Carlo simulation is utilized. This study is conducted using the IEEE reliability test system.

10.11591/ijeecs.v25.i3.pp1489-1500
Usen Dudekula , Purnachand N.
Facial expression recognition is a challenging problem in the scientific field of computer vision. Several face expression recognition (FER) algorithms are proposed in the field of machine learning, and deep learning to extract expression knowledge from facial representations. Even though numerous algorithms have been examined, several issues like lighting changes, rotations and occlusions. We present an efficient approach to enhance recognition accuracy in this study, advocates transfer learning to fine-tune the parameters of the pre-trained model (VGG19 model ) and non-pre-trained model convolutional neural networks (CNNs) for the task of image classification. The VGG19 network and convolutional network derive two channels of expression related characteristics from the facial grayscale images. The linear fusion algorithm calculates the class by taking an average of each classification decision on training samples of both channels. Final recognition is calculated using convolution neural network architecture followed by a softmax classifier. Seven basic facial emotions (BEs): happiness, surprise, anger, sadness, fear, disgust, and neutral facial expressions can be recognized by the proposed algorithm, The average accuracies for standard data set’s “CK+,” and “JAFFE,” 98.3 % and 92.4%, respectively. Using a deep network with one channel, the proposed algorithm can achieve well comparable performance.

Kalpana Anumala , Ramesh Babu Veligatla
The axial flux machines (AFMs) which got discovered long back in 1821 were shelved out due to their manufacturing complexities. These machines are now reconsidered as novel topologies as their topology is well suitable for fulfilling the present day technical and societal needs. An attempt has been made in this paper to assess the different structures of Axial Flux Machines and to identify the feasible applications. The advantages of AFMs have been highlighted in wind energy conversion systems and electrical vehicle applications. An exhaustive comparison has been carried out in this work between the conventional radial flux and axial flux machines through their sizing equations.

Study of novel parallel H-bridge and common-emitter current-source inverters for photovoltaic power conversion system

10.11591/ijpeds.v13.i1.pp500-508
Suroso Suroso , Hari Siswantoro
A novel operation of three-level H-bridge and common-emitter current source inverters (CSIs) proposed for photovoltaic power converters is presented in this paper. Two photovoltaic systems with two different inverter circuits, i.e. H-bridge and common-emitter CSIs, were connected in parallel to supply a sharing ac power load. In order to regulate the power supplied by each inverter system, proportional integral current controllers were employed. Triangular carrier and sinusoidal signals-based modulation techniques were implemented to both inverters. Some parameters such as load current, inverter’s output current, total harmonics distortion (THD), and efficiency were tested and analyzed. Test results showed that in the parallel operation of these inverters, the average THD percentage of the load current was 0.34% for load power factor 0.996 and 0.62 % for load power factor 0.782. Minimum waveform distortion of inverter ac currents during parallel operation can be achieved if the current magnitudes of both inverters were set the same. In the case of efficiency, the maximum efficiency of the system was 89.07%. Operating the H-bridge CSI with a higher magnitude of the output current will result in higher efficiency of the system.

Integrated resistivity study on the effect of dumpsite leachate on groundwater at Ezeani-Obimo, Nsukka, Enugu state Nigeria

10.11591/ijaas.v11.i1.pp65-75
Mirianrita Ngozi Ossai , Benjamin Shaibu Ojoajogwu , John Akor Yakubu
The effect of dumpsite leachate on groundwater at the Ezeani-Obimo community was performed by employing Schlumberger and Wenner configurations for four vertical electrical sounding (VES) and four electrical resistivity tomography (ERT). Four geoelectric layers were obtained and characterized by KH, AK, KH, and QH curve types. The first layer, second and third layer has resistivity values ranging from 21.2 to 7026.0  with thickness and a depth ranging from 0.5-31.6 m. The fourth layer has resistivity values ranging from 105.9 to 3355.4  with undefined thickness and depth values harboring all the aquifer units in the study area. Aquifer resistivity and thickness values vary from 105.9 to 3355.4  and 6.6 to 27.1 m while aquifer conductivity ranges from 0.0003 to 0.0094  increasing towards the E-W direction. The longitudinal conductance and transverse resistance values vary from 0.0024 to 0.0623  and 698.94 to 27178.7  respectively. 2D ERT profiles show low resistivity in the eastern direction and a lateral spread of low resistivity value indicates that leachate flow is moving away gradually from the dumpsite to its outside environment. This study revealed that the layers harboring the aquifer in the area are significantly affected as a result of dumpsite leachate that accumulates on the surface. This result is beneficial for waste managers to take mitigation measures to prevent the risk of total contamination of the groundwater in the area in the nearest future.
