Wideband characteristics of density tapered array antennas

In this paper, wideband characteristics of density tapered arrays are clarified by comparing directly the array factors and radiation patterns of 3 tapered arrays structures with array factors and radiation patterns of equally spaced arrays. Calculated results for a density tapered distribution array consisting of 30 elements claims that the array can perform within a bandwidth of 2.5:1 with grating lobe levels lower than -7.8 dB. Additionally, this paper shows a method of determining the effectiveness of unequal spacing arrays in the design of actual antennas. The method is based on calculation and analysis of input impedance of array elements caused by mutual coupling effects among array elements.

A review on orchestration distributed systems for IoT smart services in fog computing

This paper provides a review of orchestration distributed systems for IoT smart services in fog computing. The cloud infrastructure alone cannot handle the flow of information with the abundance of data, devices and interactions. Thus, fog computing becomes a new paradigm to overcome the problem. One of the first challenges was to build the orchestration systems to activate the clouds and to execute tasks throughout the whole system that has to be considered to the situation in the large scale of geographical distance, heterogeneity and low latency to support the limitation of cloud computing. Some problems exist for orchestration distributed in fog computing are to fulfil with high reliability and low-delay requirements in the IoT applications system and to form a larger computer network like a fog network, at different geographic sites. This paper reviewed approximately 68 articles on orchestration distributed system for fog computing. The result shows the orchestration distribute system and some of the evaluation criteria for fog computing that have been compared in terms of Borg, Kubernetes, Swarm, Mesos, Aurora, heterogeneity, QoS management, scalability, mobility, federation, and interoperability. The significance of this study is to support the researcher in developing orchestration distributed systems for IoT smart services in fog computing focus on IR4.0 national agenda

The design of an efficient class E-LCCL capacitive power transfer system through frequency tuning method

In this work, the optimum zero voltage switching (ZVS) of Class E-LCCL capacitive power transfer (CPT) was determined via frequency tuning method. Through this an efficient system can be guanranteed although there is a change in the capacitive plates distance. This study used a Class-E LCCL inverter, as it can operate at a high alternate current frequency, besides producing low switching losses and minimal power losses. Specifically, this study conducted simulations and experiments to analyse the performance of an LCCL CPT System at 1 MHz operating frequency and 24 V DC supply voltage. Using an air gap distance of 0.1 cm, the designed CPT system prototype successfully achieved an output power of 10W and an efficiency of 95.45%. This study also found that by tuning the resonant frequency of the Class E-LCCL system, the optimum ZVS can be obtained although capacitive plate distance was varied from 1-3 cm via experimental. The results of this study could benefit medical implant and portable device development, consumer electronics, and environments that involve electrical hazards.

Automated brain tumor classification using various deep learning models: a comparative study

The brain tumor, the most common and aggressive disease, leads to a very shorter lifespan. Thus, planning treatments is a crucial step in improving a patient's quality of life. In general, several image techniques such as CT, MRI, and ultrasound have been used for assessing tumors in the prostate, breast, lung, brain, etc. Primarily, MRI images are applied to detect tumors in the brain during this work. The enormous amount of data produced by the MRI scan thwarts tumor vs. non-tumor manual classification at a particular time. Unfortunately, with a small number of images, it has certain limitations (i.e., precise quantitative measurements). Therefore, an automated classification system is necessary to avoid human mortality. The automatic categorization of brain tumors in the surrounding tumor region is a challenging task concerning space and structural variability. Four deep learning models: AlexNet, VGG16, GoogleNet, and RestNet50, are used in this comparative study to classify brain tumors. Based on accuracy, the results showed that RestNet50 is the best model with an accuracy of 95.8%, while AlexNet has the fast performance with a processing time of 1.2 seconds. In addition, a hardware parallel processing unit (GPU) is employed for real-time purposes, where AlexNet (the fastest model) has a processing time of only 8.3 msec.

Adaptive gender-based thermal control system

A closed loop adaptive gender-based thermal control system (AG-TCS) is designed, modelled, analysed and tested. The system has the unique feature of adapting to the surrounding environment as a function of the number of humans present and the gender ratio. The operation of the system depends on a unique interface between a radio frequency identification (RFID) device and an imaging device, both of which are correlated and interfaced to a controller. Testing of the system resulted in smooth transition and shape conversion of the response curve, which proved its adaptability. Three mathematical equations describing the internal mechanisms of the AG-TCS are presented and have been proven to optimally reflect the original statistical data covering both genders.

Eye blink detection using CNN to detect drowsiness level in drivers for road safety

Blinking is a regular bodily function and it is the semiautomatic fast closing of the eyelid. A specific blink is examined by dynamic folding of the eyelid. It is a vital function of the eye which helps in spread of tears across and eliminates irritants from the shallow of cornea. In this research work we made use of convolution neural network, the deep learning concepts and image processing to detect drowsiness level in drivers. To train the blink detection model the mobilenet V2 is used as base. The loss function used for training was RMSprop and the optimizer is binary cross entropy. The dlib facial landmark was exploited to perceive and pre-process the detected faces. The dataset used for the training model is selected from the “Xiaoyang Tan” of nanjing university of aeronautics and astronautics. Based on the experimental outcome the projected method achieves an accuracy of 97%. The prototype developed serves as a base for further development of this process to achieve better road safety.

Use of production functions in assessing the profitability of shares of insurance companies

In this study the production functions (Cobb-Douglas, Zener-Rivanker, and the transcendental production function) have been used to assess the profitability of insurance companies, by reformulating these nonlinear functions based on the introduction of a set of variables that contribute to increase the explanatory capacity of the model. Then the best production function commensurate with the nature of the variable representing the profitability of insurance companies was chosen, to use it to assess the efficiency of their profitability versus the use of different factors of production and thus the possibility of using it in forecasting. It was found that the proposed model of the production function "Zener-Rivanker" is the best production functions representing the profitability of the Tawuniya and Bupa Insurance Companies. The proposed model of the Cobb-Douglas production function is suitable for the results of both Enaya and Sanad Cooperative Insurance Companies. The explanatory capacity of the production functions was also increased when the proposed variables were added (net subscribed premiums-net claims incurred).

Attitude on intention to use e-government in Indonesia

The application of information and communication technologies in Indonesia continues to be developed as the government becomes more serious in improving services to its citizen. However, there are still some obstacles to using the service. The purpose of this paper to present a framework improving e-government services to its citizen. The paper opted for using a comprehensive review of the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT). This paper offers ideas to see intention to the community in using e-government, by using the modified UTAUT model where the main construct performance expectancy (PE), effort expectancy (EE), social influence (SI), facilitating conditions (FC) is an important factor. Moderators such as gender, age, experience and voluntariness of use were excluded and using attitude as a mediator. The findings showed that UTAUT’s construct such as performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, facilitating conditions is an important factor appropriate for seeing intention to citizen in using e-government and 9 hypotheses offered in the model are believed to get new findings in the future and increase the development of the UTAUT model and be able to provide concept ideas that are made in seeing the intentions of e-government users.

Comparative analysis on different software piracy prevention techniques

Numerous type of software piracy known today, have several prevention techniques which has been established against them. Although, different software piracy techniques have been established, but the choice of which one should be the best to develop any software is the challenge for most software developers. Consequently, example of the types of piracy in software development can be categorise as follows: cracks and serials, softlifting and hard disk loading, internet piracy and software forging, mischaneling, reverse engineering, and tampering. We have several types of prevention techniques which aimed to resolved piracy in software development, although the methods have been wrecked. In this work a critical analysis has been carryout on different software piracy techniques and a simple model software was designed using the best technique to validate the results of the analysis.

Models of improved multilink reverse charging network by utilizing the bit error rate QoS attribute

In this paper, a modification model for single-link reverse charging of internet is formed on a multi-link wireless network. The pricing scheme also takes into account the base costs and quality of services provided by the service provider. Bit error rate (BER) was utilized as one of the well-known quality of service (QoS) attribute that can guarantee best performance for internet service provider (ISP) and users. The base price is determined as a decision variable to help ISP to maximize profit. This optimization model can be solved using the LINGO 13.0 program to gain optimal values. The computational results show that by setting costs as constants and service quality as variables, optimal results are obtained for ISPs. This can make ISP considerations in determining the base price that can benefit the ISP and according to the services provided.

Design and implementation of DA FIR filter for bio-inspired computing architecture

This paper elucidates the system construct of DA-FIR filter optimized for design of distributed arithmetic (DA) finite impulse response (FIR) filter and is based on architecture with tightly coupled co-processor based data processing units. With a series of look-up-table (LUT) accesses in order to emulate multiply and accumulate operations the constructed DA based FIR filter is implemented on FPGA. The very high speed integrated circuit hardware description language (VHDL) is used implement the proposed filter and the design is verified using simulation. This paper discusses two optimization algorithms and resulting optimizations are incorporated into LUT layer and architecture extractions. The proposed method offers an optimized design in the form of offers average miminimizations of the number of LUT, reduction in populated slices and gate minimization for DA-finite impulse response filter. This research paves a direction towards development of bio inspired computing architectures developed without logically intensive operations, obtaining the desired specifications with respect to performance, timing, and reliability.

Minimize the load reduction considering the activities control of the generators and phase distance

This study shows how to calculate the minimum load that needs to be reduced to restore the frequency to the specified threshold. To implement this problem, the actual operation of the electricity system in the event of a generator outage is considered. The main idea of this method is to use the power balance equation between the generation and the load with different frequency levels. In all cases of operating the electrical system before and after the generator outage, the reserve capacity of other generators is considered in each generator outage situation. The reduced load capacity is calculated based on the reciprocal phase angle sensitivity or phase distance. This makes the voltage phase angle and voltage value quality of recovery nodes better. The standard IEEE 9-generator 37-bus test scheme was simulated to show the result of the proposed technique.

Direct control of active and reactive power for a grid-connected single-phase photovoltaic inverter

This paper presents a single-phase grid-connected photovoltaic system with direct control of active and reactive power through a power management system of a Photovoltaic inverter. The proposed control algorithm is designed to allow maximum utilization of the inverter’s available KVA capacity while maintaining grid power factor and current total harmonic distortion (THD) requirements within the grid standards. To reduce the complexity and improve the efficiency of the system, two independent PI controllers are implemented to control single-phase unipolar PWM voltage source inverter. One controller is used to control the power angle, and hence the active power flow, while the other controller is used to control the reactive power, and consequently the power factor by adjusting the voltage modulation index of the inverter. The proposed system is modelled and simulated using MATLAB/Simulink. The PV inverter has been examined while being simultaneously connected to grid and local load. Results obtained showed the ability of the PV inverter to manage the active and reactive power flow at, and below rated levels of solar irradiances; resulting in an increased inverter utilization factor, and enhanced power quality. The proposed system, was capable of operating at power factors in the range of 0.9 lead or lag for reactive power compensation purposes and delivered its power at a wide range of solar irradiance variations.

A dual-switch cubic SEPIC converter with extra high voltage gain

To provide a high votage conversion ratio, conventional non-isolated DC-DC boost topologies, which have reduced voltage boost capability, have to operate with extremely high duty cycle ratio, higher than 0.9. This paper proposes a DC-DC converter which is mainly based on the narrow range of duty cycle ratio to achieve extra high voltage conversion gain at relatively reduced voltage stress on semiconductors. In addition, it does include any magnetic coupling structure. The structure of the proposed converter combines the new hybrid SEPIC converter and voltage multiplier cells. From the steady-state analysis, this converter has wide conversion ratio and cubic dependence with respect to the duty ratio and then, can increase the output voltage several times more than the conventional and quadratic converters at the same duty cycle ratio. However, the proposed dual-switch cubic SEPIC converter must withstand higher voltage stress on output switches. To overcome this drawback, an extension of the proposed converter is also introduced and discussed. The superiority of the proposed converter is mainly based on its cubic dependence on the duty cycle ratio that allows it to achieve extra high voltage gain at reduced voltage stress on semiconductors. Simulation results are shown and they corroborate the feasibility, practicality and validity of the concepts of the proposed converter.

Towards design strong emergency and COVID-19 authentication scheme in VANET

The wide use of vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) in the last decade hasled many researchers to find  efficient and reliable methods to obtain the desired benefits and offer services, such as healthcare and traffic management. However, VANETs suffer from security issues represented by authentication and data integrity. In thispaper, we propose a robust  mutual authentication scheme based on elliptic curve cryptography (ECC), cryptography hash function, and a pseudonym. The  proposed work was twofold in focus: first, on healthcare in emergency cars which use VANETs, and second, on overcoming security issues, such as resisting familiar attacks (e.g. insider attacks and reply attacks). Because of the serious situation generated by the worldwide outbreak of the Covid-19 epidemic, we also found this research valuable in supporting global efforts to combat the rapid spread of this virus, by finding the safest and fastest routes to epidemic treatment centres for medical staff, assistance teams in medical  operations, fumigation control, and all work teams associated with disease control. This research attempts to contribute by proposing a special signal  used to define epidemic teams. The best route, fast route can be chosen by using VANETs infrastructure. This scheme also deals with metric security features, such as key management, data integrity, and data privacy. In the communication and computation  cost, we  noticed  that our proposed scheme  achieved  good results compared with the related works.
