A NURBS-optimized dRRM solution in a mono-channel condition for IEEE 802.11 entreprise Wlan networks

10.11591/ijece.v10i4.pp4189-4207
Mehdi Guessous , Lahbib Zenkouar
Dynamic radio resource management, RRM, is an essential design block in the functional architecture of any Wifi controller in IEEE 802.11 indoor dense enterprise Wlans. In a mono-channel condition, it helps tackle co-channel interference problem and enrich end-to-end Wifi clients experience. In this work, we present our dRRM solution: WLCx, and demonstrate its performance over related-work and vendor approaches. Our solution is built on a novel and realistic per-Beam coverage representation approach. Unlike the other RRM solutions, WLCx is dynamic: even the calculation system parameters are processed. This processing comes at price in terms of processing time. To overcome this limitation, we constructed and implemented a NURBS surface-based optimization to our RRM solution. Our NURBS optimized WLCx, N-WLCx, solution achieves almost 92.58% time reduction in comparison with basic WLCx. Furthermore, our optimization could easily be extended to enhance others, vendors and research, RRM solutions.

The present work was an attempt to address a challenge of energy utilization or consumption in WBSN, it used a proposed routing algorithm based on ant optimization technique to distribute energy utilization efficiently on nodes. Thus reducing consumed energy and extending the life cycle of nodes, as well as avoiding damages might be occurred in tissues of patient`s body. At the beginning the proposed protocol was compared with conventional routing protocol LEACH to prove it`s efficiency in the extending of the life cycle of node, then it was used with experimental network was employed to examine energy utilizations. The obtained results were compared with others attained by conventional and developed routing protocols, there was considerable minimizing in the energy consumption that proved efficiency of proposed algorithm.

Feature selection for multiple water quality status: Integrated bootstrapping and SMOTE approach in imbalance classes

10.11591/ijece.v10i4.pp4331-4339
Shofwatul Uyun , Eka Sulistyowati
STORET is one method to determine the river water quality into four classes (very good , good, medium and bad) based on the data of water for each attribute or feature. The success of the formation of pattern recognition model much depends on the quality of data. There are two issues as the concern of this research as follows: the data having disproportionate amount among the classes (imbalance class) and the finding of noise on its attribute. Therefore, this research integrates the SMOTE Technique and bootstrapping to handle the problem of imbalance class. While an experiment is conducted to eliminate the noise on the attribute by using some feature selection algorithms with filter approach (information gain, rule, derivation, correlation and chi square). This research has some stages as follows: data understanding, pre-processing, imbalance class, feature selection, classification and performance evaluation. Based on the result of testing using 10-fold cross validation, it shows that the use of the SMOTE-bootstrapping technique is able to increase the accurate value from 83.3% to be 98.8%. While the process of noise elimination on the data attribute is also able to increase the accuracy to be 99.5% (the use of feature subset produced by the information gain algorithm and the decision tree classification algorithm).

Real power loss diminution by predestination of particles wavering search algorithm

10.11591/ijict.v9i2.pp92-99
Kanagasabai Lenin
In this work Predestination of Particles Wavering Search (PPS) algorithm has been applied to solve optimal reactive power problem. PPS algorithm has been modeled based on the motion of the particles in the exploration space. Normally the movement of the particle is based on gradient and swarming motion.  Particles are permitted to progress in steady velocity in gradient-based progress, but when the outcome is poor when compared to previous upshot, immediately particle rapidity will be upturned with semi of the magnitude and it will help to reach local optimal solution and it is expressed as wavering movement. In standard IEEE 14, 30, 57,118,300 bus systems Proposed Predestination of Particles Wavering Search (PPS) algorithm is evaluated and simulation results show the PPS reduced the power loss efficiently.

Irfan Ali , Mohd Haizal Jamaluddin , Abinash Gaya
In this paper, a wideband tetraskelion dielectric resonator antenna with a low profile and high gain for the upcoming fifth generation (5G) communication applications is presented. The proposed DR antenna has been designed at the operating frequency of 26 GHz. The designed antenna is etched on Rogers RT/Duroid 5880 substrate of dielectric constant =2.2, with a thickness of 0.254mm. The DR material having a relative dielectric constant ( ) of 10 is used for a proposed design. The antenna was fed by using a 50-ohm microstrip line with slot coupling. The simulation and optimization have been performed by using the commercial software CST Microwave studio. The proposed structure exhibits a wide impedance bandwidth of 19.6% for |S11|< -10 dB from 24.5 to 29.6 GHz and peak gain of 9 dBi with the efficiency of 95% for complete bandwidth. The results show that an antenna is low profile and can be used for 5G wireless communication Applications.

Giovanni Bucci , Fabrizio Ciancetta , Edoardo Fiorucci , Simone Mari
In this paper we are mostly concerned with the problem of testing electronic control units of synchronized electric power actuators. This task is particularly complex for safety critical applications, where it is crucial that the control system properly reacts in response to the faults, that are hard to reproduce and verify. A cost-effective flexible and reconfigurable test platform is proposed, discussing its architecture and implementation. The proposed system facilitates the phase of definition and development of the electronic control unit, allowing the interfacing towards both hydraulic and electromechanical actuators, and having a high flexibility as regards the I/O signals. Some results, obtained during the laboratory test activity, are also presented.

A data estimation for failing nodes using fuzzy logic with integrated microcontroller in wireless sensor networks

10.11591/ijece.v10i4.pp3623-3634
Saad Al-Azzam , Ahmad Sharieh
Continuous data transmission in wireless sensor networks (WSNs) is one of the most important characteristics which makes sensors prone to failure. a backup strategy needs to co-exist with the infrastructure of the network to assure that no data is missing. The proposed system relies on a backup strategy of building a history file that stores all collected data from these nodes. This file is used later on by fuzzy logic to estimate missing data in case of failure. An easily programmable microcontroller unit is equipped with a data storage mechanism used as cost worthy storage media for these data. An error in estimation is calculated constantly and used for updating a reference “optimal table” that is used in the estimation of missing data. The error values also assure that the system doesn’t go into an incremental error state. This paper presents a system integrated of optimal data table, microcontroller, and fuzzy logic to estimate missing data of failing sensors. The adapted approach is guided by the minimum error calculated from previously collected data. Experimental findings show that the system has great potentials of continuing to function with a failing node, with very low processing capabilities and storage requirements.

Thermal comfort control via air conditioning system using fuzzy neural network feedback controller

10.11591/ijeecs.v19.i2.pp586-592
Somaye A. Mohamadi , Abdulraheem J. Ahmed
Despite their complexity and uncertainty, air conditioning systems should provide the optimal thermal conditions in a building. These controller systems should be adaptable to changes in environmental parameters. In most air conditioning systems, today, there are On/Off controllers or PID in more advanced types, which, due to different environmental conditions, are not optimal and cannot provide the optimal environmental conditions. Controlling thermal comfort of an air conditioning system requires estimation of thermal comfort index. In this study, fuzzy controller was used to provide thermal comfort in an air conditioning system, and neural network was used to estimate thermal comfort in the feedback path of the controller. Fuzzy controller has a good response given the non-linear features of air conditioning systems. In addition, the neural network makes it possible to use thermal comfort feedback in a real-time control.

Sergii Lysenko , Kira Bobrovnikova , Serhii Matiukh , Ivan Hurman , Oleg Savenko
An article presents the approach for the botnets’ low-rate a DDoS-attacks detection based on the botnet’s behavior in the network. Detection process involves the analysis of the network traffic, generated by the botnets’ low-rate DDoS attack. Proposed technique is the part of botnets detection system – BotGRABBER system. The novelty of the paper is that the low-rate DDoS-attacks detection involves not only the network features, inherent to the botnets, but also network traffic self-similarity analysis, which is defined with the use of Hurst coefficient. Detection process consists of the knowledge formation based on the features that may indicate low-rate DDoS attack performed by a botnet; network monitoring, which analyzes information obtained from the network and making conclusion about possible DDoS attack in the network; and the appliance of the security scenario for the corporate area network’s infrastructure in the situation of low-rate attacks.

Internet service providers responsibilities in botnet mitigation: a Nigerian perspective

10.11591/ijece.v10i4.pp4168-4175
Julius Olatunji Okesola , Marion Adebiyi , Tochukwu Osi-Okeke , Adeyinka Adewale , Ayodele Adebiyi
Botnet-based attack is dangerous and extremely difficult to overcome as all the primary mitigation methods are passive and limited in focus. A combine efforts of Internet Service Providers (ISPs) are better guides since they can monitor the traffic that traverse through their networks. However, ISPs are not legally banded to this role and may not view security as a primary concern. Towards understudying the involvement of ISPs in Botnet mitigation in Nigeria, this study elicited and summarized mitigation measures from scientific literatures to create a reference model which was validated by structured interview. Although, ISPs role is seen to be voluntary and poorly incentivized, the providers still take customers security very serious but concentrate more on preventive and notification measures.

Novel switching technique for five leg inverter in dual motor control

10.11591/ijeecs.v19.i2.pp644-651
Jayaprakash Sabarad , G.H. Kulkarni
This work presents a novel switching technique for five leg inverter in dual motor control. As the technology advances in industry, requirements in reducing the cost plays an important role with reliable product design. In conventional method, the six legs are used in 2- three phase voltage source inverters (VSI) to control 2 motors. This proposed technique will give the improved performance of speed control for dual motor control using five leg inverter (FLI). New proposed method suggests to use 5-inverter legs instead of 6-inverter legs to control 2 induction motors. New Switching technique proposed in FLI system is designed in effective way that improved performance and Total Harmonic Distortion of ~23% achieved. The load sharing on common leg is called common mode (CM) of operation. In this new method, closed loop control designed by using space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) and direct torque control (DTC) in FLI Technology. With this new method smooth speed regulation is achieved when load torque is changed. THD% for CM-FLI is reduced when compared with convetional FLI technique. The new switching technique is controlled in effective way that the common leg is not overloaded and able to drive both the induction motors independently at required speeds. Proposed switching technique verified at different operating speeds with No load and rated torque. Simulation results computed using MATLAB/SIMULINK Software.

A compact design of ultra-wideband (UWB) antenna with dual band-notched characteristics based on split-ring resonators (SRR) are investigated in this paper. The wider impedance bandwidth (from 2.73 to 11.34 GHz) is obtained by using two symmetrical slits in the radiating patch and another slit in the partial ground plane. The dual band-notch rejection at WLAN and X-band downlink satellite communication system are obtained by inserting a modified U-strip on the radiating patch at 5.5 GHz and embedding a pair of rectangular SRRs on both sides of the microstrip feed line at 7.5 GHz, respectively. The proposed antenna is simulated and tested using CST MWS high frequency simulator and exhibits the advantages of compact size, simple design and each notched frequency band can be controlled independently by using the SRR geometrical parameters. Therefore, the parametric study is carried out to understand the mutual coupling between the dual band-notched elements. To validate simulation results of our design, a prototype is fabricated and good agreement is achieved between measurement and simulation. Furthermore, a radiation patterns, satisfactory gain, current distribution and VSWR result at the notched frequencies make the proposed antenna a suitable candidate for practical UWB applications.
