10.11591/ijape.v8.i3.pp265-276
M. Aravindan , V. Balaji , V. Saravanan , M. Arumugam
This manuscript reports the monitored performance results of roof top solar photovoltaic (PV) power plants in different parts of Tamilnadu, India. In this work, PV plants of capacities 84 kWp and 18 kWp located at Tirunelveli and Ranipet respectively in Tamilnadu are considered. During an eight month period, of September 2014 to April 2015, these plants had generated 43.99 MWh and 15.55 MWh units of electricity respectively. The average electricity production per day for the considered period of these plants is 181.74 kWh and 62.81 kWh respectively. The performance ratio (PR) of these plants PV1 and PV2 is found to be 0.52 and 0.86 respectively. The characteristics of poly crystalline PV modules and the performance of employed photovoltaic inverters are also analyzed. It is observed that external conditions like climate and bad weather significantly reduces the PV system output, whereas it reduces marginally due to inverter failure as observed from the values of energy yield and performance ratio of these plants. Online monitoring of PV plant with DC/AC line and phase voltages and current waveforms observed for the given day are also presented.

This paper presents a design of 3D modeling of Multimode and Single Mode Fiber using SolidWorks. Fiber technology is essential that presents optical fiber is the fastest optical cable laid by Internet Service Providers in network communication. The current design of both fibers has less detail animation on technical specifications of light propagations and cladding. Thus, characterization difficulties occur between this two fiber optics cables. It also has less promotion in media publications such as 3D model design as guidance to users. This paper presents details on 3D modeling of multimode mode and single mode fiber specifications held in the industry market.  A 3D design with SolidWorks and comparison of both fiber characteristics are presented. Based on the 3D designed model, users are analyzed on their perspective and searching information which benefits telecommunication’s company. Technical calculations like core-cladding diameter ratio in microns are animated. The propagation of light in 3D single mode and multimode fiber is simulated using SolidWorks animator that presents it real fiber conditions. Result presents 10 most country searching used of both fiber cables and the difference in users search for both cables. A number of user’s search presents 3% more of multimode than single mode fiber search cases. This research is significant in presenting an animator of single and multimode fiber to users of network infrastructure development especially network developers and Telecommunications Company which can present it lively with animator transitions.

A novel and compact multi-band stop filter using two different structures of circular DGS and circular DGS loaded with O-DGS unit, has good selectivity and  wide upper pass band performance  with good rejection based on defected ground structure (DGS) integrating a circular ring  resonator to suppress undesired spurious bands frequency or harmonics in radio frequency and microwave circuits is proposed. An equivalent circuit model has been derived for the both structures of circular DGS and circular DGS loaded. The presented filter has a compact size because the circular ring resonator is integrated in DGS, the both of them are etching in the ground plane. The proposed filter presents an optimization method for generating multi-band characteristics without using a periodic cells or other complicate topology. The simulated results by ADS Agilent are presented and compared with the results simulated by two others software: CST and HFSS. Good agreement between the three simulated results is observed.

Student behavior is one of important aspects to determine both direction and process in the Economic Theory learning. This study aims to draw how those two factors, gender and educational background, support the emergence and development of student entrepreneurial intention. This study is a quantitative study using explanatory survey. Data were analyzed by two-way ANOVA design to find the relationship/influence of gender and educational background on student entrepreneurial intention. The population was 111 students. Saturated samples were used as sampling technique. The results indicate that both gender and educational background had no significant influence on student entrepreneurial intention. Therefore, lecturers can override both when preparing learning strategies and design for Economics Theory courses.

New studies on network frequency responses considering dynamic loads

10.11591/ijape.v8.i3.pp209-220
L. T. M. Trang , H. Nouri
The dynamic model construction of transmission network components that include generator buses, load buses and power branches, within MATLABSimulink environment is presented. The degree of frequency deviation of buses when the power of motor loads and static loads vary, is studied. Furthermore, the influence of motor loads with different inertia constants are considered in the control technique of load frequency using a PID controller. The results show that the frequency oscillation of the dynamic load is greater than the frequency oscillation of static load. Also the speed of frequency control of the dynamic load is greater than the speed of the frequency control of the static load and the inertia constants of the dynamic load has significant influence on the frequency control characteristics.

Owen Ze Hua Choo , Kususanto Ditto Prihadi
This study focused on the relationship of two dimensions of perfectionism (perfectionistic strivings, and perfectionistic concerns) and academic performance, with the role of academic resilience as mediator. Participants including 132 undergraduate students form age range 18 to 25, from first year to fifth year in their studies mainly from a Malaysian psychology undergraduate program were asked to fill questionnaires containing measures for perfectionism, academic resilience and academic performance. Although only partial mediations occurred, both hypotheses where academic resilience would mediate relationships between both dimensions of perfectionism and academic performance were supported. Findings suggested that other variables aside academic resilience could have played a role in predicting perfectionist’s academic performance. Findings also suggested interplay of academic performance acting as both protective factor and outcome of academic resilience.

Neutral point clamped quasi Z source inverter for photovoltaic systems

10.11591/ijape.v8.i3.pp277-286
M. Aravindan , V. Balaji , V. Saravanan , M. Arumugam
Multilevel inverters are becoming popular for power conversion in renewable energy systems, AC-DC hybrid micro grids etc. The voltage stress and inrush current through these inverter leg switches are quite higher as compared to the load ratings which increase the chances of inverter leg switch failure. A three level neutral point clamped quasi Z source inverter topology is discussed in this paper which has the features of lower component count, reduced capacitor voltage stress, and it can be operated at different control strategies to achieve wide range of voltage boosting ability, suited for photovoltaic (PV) systems. It also ensures continuous input current irrespective of the DC supply voltage variations and injects stable and smooth power to the load/grid. The effectiveness of the proposed inverter is verified by simulation results in MATLAB Simulink model as well as performing experiment with the help of a laboratory prototype.

The propagation of radio waves inside a typical university building is investigated by simulation and measurements. The Line of sight (LOS) and Obstructed Line of sight (OLOS) propagation scenarios were considered. The received power from a WLAN access point operating at 2.45GHz was determined from the simulations and measurements at various positions, orientations, and heights of the Tx and Rx antennas. The path loss exponents were estimated from the obtained simulation and measurement results of the received power variation with distance. The obtained path loss exponent values were found between 1.15-1.63 for LOS propagation and 2.14-2.55 for OLOS.

10.11591/ijai.v8.i4.pp422-428
Haziqah Shamsudin , Maziani Sabudin , Umi Kalsom Yusof
This paper presents hybridization of Random Forest (RF) and Extreme Gradient Boosting (Xgb), named RF(Xgb) to improve the tree-based algorithms in learning style prediction. Learning style of specific users in an online learning system is determined based on their interaction and behavior towards the system. The most common online learning theory used in determining the learning style is the Felder-Silverman’s Learning Style Model (FSLSM). Many researchers have proposed machine learning algorithms to establish learning style by using the log file attributes. This helps in determining the learning style automatically. However, current researches still perform poorly, where the range of accuracy is between 58%-89%. Hence, RF(Xgb) is proposed to help in improving the learning style prediction. This hybrid algorithm was further enhanced by optimizing its parameters. From the experiments, RF(Xgb) was proven to be more effective, with accuracy of 96% compared to J48 and LSID-ANN algorithm from previous literature.

Rural areas suffer from high costs of grid extensions obliging institutions to provide for other remedies for consumers, like using generators (GE) diesel often considered as economic and reliable solutions, but at the detriment of some order environment pollution and users convenience. Furthermore, the continuous decline in GEs prices based on a renewable energy (RE) and the increasing reliability of these systems have lead to a greater use of renewable energy sources for power generation in remote areas. A property which limits the use of renewable energy is related to the variability of resources. Fluctuations in load according to annual or daily periods are not necessarily correlated to the resources. In remote areas, the preferred option is the coupling between multiple sources, such as wind turbines and solar panels, this coupling is called hybrid power system. Algeria’s geographic location presents several advantages for the development and use of renewable energy, namely, solar energy and wind energy. In addition, Algeria has huge deposits of natural gas, 98% electricity comes from gas. Therefore, currently, the production of electricity from renewable energies primarily depends on their competitiveness with economic gas. Studied technological feasibility and economic viability of the hybrid system (PV/fuel) electrification project in a school located in Ferraguig succeed to reduce high costs, energy dependence, fuel supply problem, complicated/expensive maintenance, low lifetime, impossibility of 24 hours electricity production and waste oil management issues, by using renewable energy. HOMER model is used here to size a proposed system and determine an optimum configuration.

Security algorithms like RSA are becoming increasingly important for communications to provide companies, organizations, and users around the world, secure applications who rely heavily on them in their daily work. Security algorithms use different acquaintances among companies which might belong to various countries or even cities. Such data should essentially be encrypted to make sure that there is security in transportation. Thus, the current research paper leads to the novel system of security for the safe transfer of data. This paper examines the general principles of encryption and focuses on the development of RSA and the complexity of the encryption key so that it becomes more secure in the applications used. In this project, we will work on the RSA algorithm by adding some complexity to the 3keys (3k). This addition will increase the security and complexity of the algorithm's speed while maintaining encryption and decryption time. The paper also presents an approach by means of public key encryption to enhance cryptographic security. Moreover, double security is provided by the algorithm of RSA. This novel RSA algorithm was investigated in MATLAB. Numerical results for the various parameters such as Mean Square Error (MSE), correlation and Bit Error Ratio (BER) were implemented for the encryption of the message. The experimental results demonstrated that the proposed algorithm for 3 keys has small error rate in the retrieval of the encoded text.

Bambang Sumantri , Eko Henfri Binugroho , Ilham Mandala Putra , Rika Rokhana
The two-wheeled electric skateboard (TWS) is designed for a personal vehicle. A Fuzzy-PID control strategy is designed and implemented for controlling its motion. Basically, motions control of the TWS is performed by balancing the pitch position of the TWS. Performance of the designed controller is demonstrated experimentally. The Fuzzy algorithm updates the PID gains and therefore it can handle the changing of the TWS load. Contribution of Fuzzy-PID in reducing the electric energy consumption, which is an important issue in electrical system, is also evaluated. The Fuzzy-PID successes to reduce the electric energy consumption of the TWS compared to the conventional PID.
