Digital image is considered as a powerful tool to carry and transmit information between people. Thus, it attracts the attention of large number of researchers, among them those interested in preserving the image features from any factors that may reduce the image quality. One of these factors is the noise which affects the visual aspect of the image and makes others image processing more difficult. Thus far, solving this noise problem remains a challenge for the researchers in this field. A lot of image denoising techniques have been introduced in order to remove the noise by taking care of the image features; in other words, getting the best similarity to the original image from the noisy one. However, the findings are still inconclusive. Beside the enormous amount of researches and studies which adopt several mathematical concepts (statistics, probabilities, modeling, PDEs, wavelet, fuzzy logic, etc.), there is also the scarcity of review papers which carry an important role in the development and progress of research. Thus, this review paper intorduce an overview of the different fundamental approaches that yield the several image-denoising techniques, presented with a new classification. Furthermore, the paper presents the different evaluation tools needed on the comparison between these techniques in order to facilitate the processing of this noise problem, among a great diversity of techniques and concepts.

Heri; Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Prasetyo , Berton Arie; Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Putra Akardihas
This paper presents a simple technique for performing Batik image retrieval using the Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) approach. Two CNN models, i.e. supervised and unsupervised learning approach, are considered to perform end-to-end feature extraction in order to describe the content of Batik image. The distance metrics measure the similarity between the query and target images in database based on the feature generated from CNN architecture. As reported in the experimental section, the proposed supervised CNN model achieves better performance compared to unsupervised CNN in the Batik image retrieval system. In addition, image feature composed from the proposed CNN model yields better performance compared to that of the handcrafted feature descriptor. Yet, it demonstrates the superiority performance of deep learning-based approach in the Batik image retrieval system.

The usage of dual-layer remote phosphor configurations in enhancing color quality and luminous flux of WLEDs

10.12928/telkomnika.v17i6.13093
Thuc Minh; Nha Trang University Bui , Phan Xuan; National Key Laboratory of Digital Control and System Engineering Le , Dinh Hoang; Ton Duc Thang University Bach , Nguyen Doan; Ton Duc Thang University Quoc Anh
Among conformal phosphor structure, in-cup phosphor structure, and remote phosphor structure, while in term of attaining the highest luminous flux, remote phosphor structure is the most ideal one, it seems to be that this structure results in the lowest-quality of color. Therefore, it is necessary in conducting experiments to surmount this disadvantage and make a possibility in enhancing the color quality of WLEDs with remote phosphor structure. In this research, with the ability of advancing the color rendering index (CRI) and color quality (CQS) for WLEDs, a dual-layer remote phosphor structure was considered as a suggestion. The experiments in this study used three kinds of WLEDs with the similar structures but different color temperatures varying at 5600 K, 7000 K, and 8500 K. The objectives of this paper is proposing a solution to obtain the highest color quality by placing a yellow-green emitting SrBaSiO4:Eu2+ phosphor layer or a red-emitting SrwFxByOz:Eu2+,Sm2+ phosphor layer on the YAG:Ce3+ phosphor layer and then choosing the most appropriate value of SrwFxByOz:Eu2+,Sm2+ concentration. The experimental results which are satisfied expectations of researchers indicated that SrwFxByOz:Eu2+,Sm2+ has enforced its role in managing to raise the CRI and CQS. Particularly, the greater concentration of SrwFxByOz:Eu2+,Sm2+ leads to the higher the CRI and CQS, since the red light component in WLEDs increased. Besides, the quality of luminous flux is in a tight connection with the SrBaSiO4:Eu2+ phosphor layer. Whereas, according to the Mie scattering theory and the Lambert-Beer law, if the concentration of SrwFxByOz:Eu2+,Sm2+ and SrBaSiO4:Eu2+ becomes redundant, the luminous flux and color quality will take a deep dive. Briefly, the results from this article has largely contributed to fabricating high-quality WLEDs.

The emergent of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Education in Malaysia has embarked challenges in higher education system. Conventional teaching methods often cause lower learning gain, fear and bad perceptions among students. The old initiative may also be the cause of students’ demotivation, lower interest in learning a subject or even dropouts. This study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of an inverted classroom by using the problem-based method in Biology subject among science foundation students. Students were divided into two groups; experimental (EG) and control (CG) group. A topic in Biology had been selected, and an assessment paper was given to both groups before and after the intervention session. The EG would experience self-learning through given materials and asked to conduct a problem-based learning study case. Meanwhile, the CG would obey the conventional teaching method before given a similar study case. The result reported significant improvement in assessment marks for EG group compared to the CG group. The students’ comparison between the pre- and post-test implies that they have shown positive improvement in understanding the content of the subject tested. This finding will serve as a primary platform to improvise and enhance teaching and learning methodology in biology subject for foundation level.

The recognition systems of patterns in images are mechanisms that filter the information that provides an image to highlight the area of interest for the user. Usually, these mechanisms are based on mathematical transformations that allow the processor to perform interpretations based on the geometry or shape of the image. However, the strategies that implement mathematical transformations are limited, since the effectiveness of these techniques is reduced by changing the morphology or resolution of the image. This paper presents a partial solution to this limitation with a digital image processing technique based on a deep learning neural network (DNN). This technique incorporates a mechanism that allows the DNN to determine the facial expression of a person, based on the segmented information of the image of their face. By segmenting the image and processing its characteristics in parallel, the proposed technique increases the effectiveness of recognizing facial gestures in different images even when modifying their characteristics.

Pre-service teachers' visual images about biology

10.11591/ijere.v8i4.20255
Esra Kızılay , Mustafa Hamalosmanoğlu
The aim of this study was to investigate the visual images of pre-service teachers who take biology courses in undergraduate education about biology by analyzing their drawings. The research was conducted with 97 pre-service teachers, studying at the education faculty of a university in Turkey and taking biology course during undergraduate training. Science teaching and classroom teaching departments were included in the research. In the study, the data collection tool has been applied based on voluntariness of pre-service teachers. In the first part of the data collection, information about pre-service teachers' department, grade level and gender were collected. In the second part, pre-service teachers were given a blankA4 paper and asked to draw a picture explaining the concept of biology. Pre-service teachers completed their drawings in approximately 20 minutes. Content analysis was used in the analysis of the drawings. Categories and codes were first determined in the analysis of the data. Drawings were coded separately by two researchers. Then, in order to ensure inter-coder reliability, the codes were evaluated together, and a decision was reached. The analysis of pre-service teachers' drawings about biology shows that ecology and ecosystem concepts came to the mind of the majority when biology is mentioned. The general result of the research can be stated as the visual images of pre-service teachers about biology are mostly shaped within the framework of ecology.

A photovoltaic integrated unified power quality conditioner with a 27-level inverter

10.12928/telkomnika.v17i6.13224
Kamel; An-Najah National Univeristy Saleh , Nael Hantouli
Abstract This paper presents a Unified Power Quality Conditioner (UPQC) with a 27- level inverter based on an asymmetric H-bridge topology. Each phase of the inverter is composed of three H-bridges, supplied by three DC sources scaled in the power of three. The output of the multilevel inverter is connected directly to the point of common coupling (PCC) without the need to a transformer or a filter. The calculation of the Shunt Active Power filter (SAPF) compensation current is based on the generalized theory of synchronous frame (d-q theory) while the calculation of a series active filter voltage is based on Instantaneous Reactive Power (p-q theory). The control of the SAPF is achieved by using a closed loop vector control followed by a new multilevel modulation technique. In addition to the capability of harmonic elimination of both current and voltage drawn from the source, the UPQC can produce real and reactive power to feed the loads during prolonged voltage outages or source shortage.  The injection of real and reactive power depends on the state of charge (SOC) of batteries, the frequency of the system, real and reactive power of the load, and power factor at the point of PCC. The proposed UPQC strategy is simulated in MATLAB SIMULINK and the results has shown a significant improved in Total Harmonics Distortion (THD) of both the voltage and currents.

Alaa Adulhady Jaber , Firas Khalil Ibrahim Al-Mousawi , Hayder Sabeeh Jasem
In this research an internet of things (IoT) system is designed for the purpose of industrial environment monitoring and control. The system is mainly composed of control and sensor units. Control unit has the responsibility of managing the received data form the sensor unit and then executing the developed control algorithm based on the measured parameters.  NodeMCU development kit is used as the core of the control unit. The senor unit contains gas and temperature sensors utilized for measuring the temperature and concentration of toxic gases in the monitored space. A buzzer has also been embedded in the sensor unit for alerting the occupants acoustically in the danger situations. If the monitored temperature gets higher or lower than the set levels, the air conditioning system will be automatically operated. Similarly, the fan (ventilation) system will be operated if the level of toxic gases becomes high. A mobile application, based on Blynk platform, is then developed to enable the wireless monitoring and control of the environment by the in charge people. In addition to the automatic and wireless control the manual control capability is considered in the developed IoT system.

Automatic summarization of Malayalam documents using clause identification method

10.11591/ijece.v9i6.pp4929-4938
Sunitha C , A Jaya , Amal Ganesh
Text summarization is an active research area in the field of natural language processing. Huge amount of information in the internet necessitates the development of automatic summarization systems. There are two types of summarization techniques: Extractive and Abstractive. Extractive summarization selects important sentences from the text and produces summary as it is present in the original document. Abstractive summarization systems will provide a summary of the input text as is generated by human beings. Abstractive summary requires semantic analysis of text. Limited works have been carried out in the area of abstractive summarization in Indian languages especially in Malayalam. Only extractive summarization methods are proposed in Malayalam. In this paper, an abstractive summarization system for Malayalam documents using clause identification method is proposed. As part of this research work, a POS tagger and a morphological analyzer for Malayalam words in cricket domain are also developed. The clauses from input sentences are identified using a modified clause identification algorithm. The clauses are then semantically analyzed using an algorithm to identify semantic triples - subject, object and predicate. The score of each clause is then calculated by using feature extraction and the important clauses which are to be included in the summary are selected based on this score. Finally an algorithm is used to generate the sentences from the semantic triples of the selected clauses which is the abstractive summary of input documents.

Z.; International Islamic University Malaysia Jusoh , Nagma; International Islamic University Malaysia Parveen , A. L.; International Islamic University Malaysia Asnawi
A communication method is proposed using Minimum Mean Square Error (MMSE) precoding and Successive Interference Cancellation (SIC) technique for millimetre-wave multiple-input multiple-output (mm-Wave MIMO) based wireless communication system. The mm-Wave MIMO technology for wireless communication system is the base potential technology for its high data transfer rate followed by data instruction and low power consumption compared to Long-Term Evolution (LTE). The mm-Wave system is already available in indoor hotspot and Wi-Fi backhaul for its high bandwidth availability and potential lead to rate of numerous Gbps/user. But, in mobile wireless communication system this technique is lagging because the channel faces relative orthogonal coordination and multiple node detection problems while rapid movement of nodes (transmitter and receiver) occur. To improve the conventional mm-wave MIMO nodal detection and coordination performance, the system processes data using symbolized error vector technique for linearization. Then the MMSE precoding detection technique improves the link strength by constantly fitting the channel coefficients based on number of independent service antennas (M), Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR), Channel Matrix (CM) and mean square errors (MSE). To maintain sequentially encoded user data connectivity and to overcome data loss, SIC method is used in combination with MMSE. MATLAB was used to validate the proposed system performance.

Ant colony optimization based energy efficiency for improving opportunistic routing in multimedia wireless mesh network

10.11591/ijeecs.v16.i3.pp1371-1378
S. Harikishore , V. Sumalatha
Opportunistic Routing (OR) is developing as a favourable prototype to diminish performance deprivation in Wireless Mesh Networks (WMNs) owing to changing channel conditions and link breakages. When a flow of data is forwarded towards their destination, intermediate forwarders can attune the information of the route carried by the nodes. However, OR does not solve these problems such as routing efficiency and Energy Consumption. If the necessary energy is not presented, the packet is rejected and the delay occurs in the network. To overcome these problems, an Ant Colony Optimization based Energy Efficiency for improving opportunistic routing in Multimedia WMN (ACO-EE) is proposed. In this scheme, we develop the optimal energy strategy based on optimal transmission distance and remaining energy computation is saving node energy and enhancing the network lifetime. The ant colony optimization based route formation is to improve both the energy efficiency and opportunistic routing efficiency in WMN.Simulation results show that ACE-EE can effectively reduce the energy utilization of nodes and extend the network lifetime.

Recently, big data is granted to be the solution to opening the subsequent large fluctuations of increase in fertility. Along with the growth, it is facing some of the challenges. One of the significant problems is data security. While people use data mining methods to identify valuable information following massive database, people further hold the necessary to maintain any knowledge so while not to be worked out, like delicate common itemsets, practices, taxonomy tree and the like Association rule mining can make a possible warning approaching the secrecy of information. So, association rule hiding methods are applied to evade the hazard of delicate information misuse. Various kinds of investigation already prepared on association rule protecting. However, maximum of them concentrate on introducing methods with a limited view outcome for inactive databases (with only existing information), while presently the researchers facing the problem with continuous information. Moreover, in the era of big data, this is essential to optimize current systems to be suited concerning the big data. This paper proposes the framework is achieving the data anonymization by using fuzzy logic by supporting big data mining. The fuzzy logic grouping the sensitivity of the association rules with a suitable association level. Moreover, parallelization methods which are inserted in the present framework will support fast data mining process.
