This paper presents performance analysis of Unified Power Quality Conditioner-Battery Energy Storage (UPQC-BES) system supplied by Photovoltaic (PV)-Wind Hybrid connected to three phase three wire (3P3W) of 380 volt (L-L) and 50 hertz distribution system. The performance of supply system is compared with two renewable energy (RE) sources i.e. PV and Wind, respectively. Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC) is implemented to maintain DC voltage across the capacitor under disturbance scenarios of source and load as well as to compare the results with Proportional Intergral (PI) controller. There are six scenarios of disturbance i.e. (1) non-linear load (NL), (2) unbalance and nonlinear load (Unba-NL), (3) distortion supply and non-linear load (Dis-NL), (4) sag and non-linear load (Sag-NL), (5) swell and non-linear load (Swell-NL), and (6) interruption and non-linear load (Inter-NL). In disturbance scenario 1 to 5, implementation of FLC on UPQC-BES system supplied by three RE sources is able to obtain average THD of load voltage/source current slightly better than PI. Furthermore under scenario 6, FLC applied on UPQC-BES system supplied by three RE sources gives significantly better result of average THD of load voltage/source current than PI. This research is simulated using Matlab/Simulink.

Crosstalk in misaligned free space optical interconnects: modelling and simulation

10.11591/ijece.v9i3.pp1620-1629
Nedal Al-Ababneh
We introduce convenient model and an optimization scheme to optimize the signal-to-crosstalk ratio (SCR) in a free space optical interconnects (FSOIs) system that uses microlenses with finite circular apertures. In this model, we consider both the stray light crosstalk and the crosstalk due to the diffraction at the microlens apertures to evaluate the SCR. Using cylindrical form of Collins diffraction integral and the Laguerre–Gaussian (LG) beam model, we derive an approximate closed form formula for the optical field of a multimode LG beam propagating through circular apertured FSOIs by expanding the hard edge circular aperture function of the microlens in terms of complex Gaussian functions. The analyses indicate that the size of the detector is an important factor to optimize the SCR for both the apertured and the unapertured misaligned FSOIs system. The effect of higher order mode of the laser source on the SCR is also considered.

10.11591/ijece.v9i3.pp1506-1513
Rekha S. N. , P. Aruna Jeyanthy , D. Devaraj
This Paper is an attempt to develop the multiclass classification in the Benchmark fault model applied on wind energy conversion system using the relevance vector machine (RVM). The RVM could apply a structural risk minimization by introducing a proper kernel for training and testing. The Gaussian Kernel is used for this purpose. The classification of sensor, process and actuators faults are observed and classified in the implementation. Training different fault condition and testing is carried out using the RVM implementation carried out using Matlab on the Wind Energy Conversion System (WECS). The training time becomes important while the training is carried out in a bigger WECS, and the hardware feasibility is prime while the testing is carried out on an online fault detection scenario. Matlab based implementation is carried out on the benchmark model for the fault detection in the WECS. The results are compared with the previously implemented fault detection technique and found to be performing better in terms of training time and hardware feasibility.

Electrical energy consumption is one of the focus areas in Green and Sustainable technology in the 21st century. Many energy consultants offers services to reduce the electricity consumption to the commercial consumer. Many proposals are focusing on selling their energy management system product which cost a lot of initial investment. The problem of applying energy management system is that the building needs major renovation. In this paper, electricity consumption is reduced through delamping method. The delamping is strategizing based on energy efficiency audit. This technique complies with the ASHRAE international standard for office building. The number of light reduced and electricity consumption from this exercise can translate into reduction of maintenance and electricity bill. The comparison of payback period for various energy saving techniques were discussed as well.

Ahmed F. Al-Mukhtar , Eman S. Al-shamery
Complex networks provide means to represent different kinds of networks with multiple features. Most biological, sensor and social networks can be represented as a graph depending on the pattern of connections among their elements. The goal of the graph clustering is to divide a large graph into many clusters based on various similarity criteria’s. Political blogs as standard social dataset network, in which it can be considered as blog-blog connection, where each node has political learning beside other attributes. The main objective of work is to introduce a graph clustering method in social network analysis. The proposed Structure-Attribute Similarity (SAS-Cluster) able to detect structures of community, based on nodes similarities. The method combines topological structure with multiple characteristics of nodes, to earn the ultimate similarity. The proposed method is evaluated using well-known evaluation measures, Density, and Entropy. Finally, the presented method was compared with the state-of-art comparative method, and the results show that the proposed method is superior to the comparative method according to the evaluations measures.

10.11591/ijpeds.v10.i2.pp753-767
Ait ahmed Wassima , Aggour Mohammed , Ouhammou Badr
Each solar thermal plant can provide different parameters to be treated and evaluated, mostly temperature measurements, pressure specifications, heat transfer values. This data collection can be quite expensive taking into account the important number of sensors and data loggers and their specifications. Hence to assure flexibility in the data collection at a low cost, many hardware and software specifications can be adopted. Here we built an inexpensive data logger based on the Arduino board and IDE to collect and store incoming data from Resol DeltaSol regulators integrated in different solar water heating systems. The objective of this study is to allow massive synchronized measurements with high resolution to be stored into an SD card through the Arduino platform. The measurements are given by multiple sensors (temperature, pump speed, relay states) connected to the regulator. The results from the tests of the plant connected to the data logger are provided later on, alongside the commercial aspects of the built data logging device. After a month of daily measurements, the data logger showed an outstanding performance with an extreme low cost compared to industrial datalogger.

Rabiya Rasheed , Saju K K , Bindu V
This paper presents a new topology for cascaded H-bridge multilevel inverter utilizing multicarrier modulation technique. The new five-level topology utilizes a capacitive divider network consisting of two capacitors for producing output voltage levels. The developed circuit has reduced number of switches and dc sources compared to conventional five level inverters. Five main power switches, a single additional diode apart from antiparallel diodes, two capacitors and a dc supply constitute a single five level unit. Simulations as well as experimental results are verified for the new topology utilising multicarrier modulation technique with reduced harmonic distortions in the output.

10.11591/ijpeds.v10.i2.pp831-841
Adnan Hussein Ali , Hassan Salman Hamad , Ali Abdulwahhab Abdulrazzaq
Multi-level inverters (MLIs), have gained popularity in the last few years as a result of their low total harmonic distortions (THD) as well as their output waveform which is of high quality. The converter which considers more appropriate for applications of photovoltaic (PV)beyond the varying MLIs arrangementsis the Cascaded H-Bridge-(CHB) (MLI), meanwhile each PV panel may be served as an independent DC supply for any CHB unit. Through the use of MATLAB/Simulink, the efficiency of symmetrical single phase MLI in terms of the number of switches, harmonic content in addition to the stresses of voltage through theswitches that exist at photovoltaic cell by means of input source is enhanced; varying parameters like output current, voltage and power, and THD at 5-level 7-level and 9-level Cascaded MLI are observed. In this paper, attention is paid to a multi-level topologies which is flexible and based on cascaded MLI intended for PV grids connected system. An observation of the output voltage becomes closer to the sine wave as the levels increase, while the increase in the levels of Cascaded Multilevel Inverter causes the total harmonic distortion to decrease.

Study and simulation with VHDL-AMS of the electrical impedance of a piezoelectric ultrasonic transducer

10.11591/ijpeds.v10.i2.pp1064-1071
Toufik Merdjana , Abdelhafid Chaabi
Ultrasonic transducers are a key element that governs the performances of both generating and receiving ultrasound in an ultrasonic measurement system. Electrical impedance is a parameter sensitive to the environment of the transducer; it contains information about the transducer but also on the medium in which it is immersed. Several practical applications exploit this property. For this study, the model is implemented with the VHDL-AMS behavioral language. The simulations approaches presented in this work are based on the electrical Redwood model and its parameters are deduced from the transducer electroacoustic characteristics.

At the present time, the complexity of identification is to find such a description, in which the image (information) of each class would have identified similar properties. The task is to make the transformed description includes the whole set of input images, united by the similarity class by the given ratio.Using the ordinates of an autocorrelation function is an inseparable shift in the center of gravity of an image, which leads to a change of such description.Nicest, the concept of an invariant description of information arises, this is an autocorrelation function, which is invariant to the description of any displacements of the image in the vertical and horizontal directions. The problem of finding an optimal decision rule arises, which, in a number of cases, can be constructed on the basis of a method, based on the definition of the maximum incomplete coefficient of similarity.Using this method, the solutions, that are almost unintelligible to the errors that arise due to the effects of interference, are found. Therefore, in increments k, this rule passes into the Bayes’ rule.

2-coil non-radiative wireless power transfer (WPT) is studied to find the coil diameter ratio to effective distance of power transfer efficiency (PTE). Single circular coil and spiral coil are designed and simulated using CST software to compare the result of coil diameter versus effective distance of PTE by using S21 value. Accordingly, the quality factor (Q) of both coils are presented as Q factor is one of the parameter that affect the performance of WPT system. The result is promising as the effective distance is more than the coil diameter with (PTE) more than 50% using spiral coil as compare to single coil design.
