Edio da Costa , Handayani Tjandrasa , Supeno Djanali
To overcome pests and diseases of rice farming, farmers always rely on information and knowledge from agricultural experts for decision making. The problem is that experts are not always available when the farmers need and the cost is quite high. Pests and diseases elimination is hard to be done individually since the farmers are lack of knowledge about the pest types that attack the rice fields. The objective of this study is to build a knowledge-based system that can identify pests and diseases interactively based on the information that has been told by the farmers using SMS communication services. The system can provide a convenience way to the farmers in delivering pests and disease problem information using a natural language. The text mining method performs tokenizing, filtering and porter stemming that used to extract important information sent by a SMS service. The method of Jaccard Similarity Coefficient (JSC) was used to calculate similarities of each pest and disease based on symptoms that are sent by the farmers through SMS. The corpus database usedin this study consists of 28.526 root words, 1.309 stop wordsand 180 words list. Pest and disease database reference in this study was obtained from the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisher (MAF) Timor-Leste. The result of the experiment shows that the system is able to identify the symptoms based on the keywords identified with the accuracy of 81%. The result of pest and disease identification has the accuracy of 86%.

Nor Rul Hasma Abdullah , Mahaletchumi A P Morgan , Mahfuzah Mustafa , Rosdiyana Samad , Dwi Pebrianti
Static VAR Compensators (SVCs) is a Flexible Alternating Current Transmission System (FACTS) device that can control the power flow in transmission lines by injecting capacitive or inductive current components at the midpoint of interconnection line or in load areas. This device is capable of minimizing the overall system losses and concurrently improves the voltage stability. A line index, namely SVSI becomes indicator for the placement of SVC and the parameters of SVCs are tuned by using the multi-objective evolutionary programming technique, effectively able to control the power. The algorithm was tested on IEEE-30 Bus Reliability Test System (RTS). Comparative studies were conducted based on the performance of SVC in terms of their location and sizing for installations in power system.

The Analysis of Soft Error in C-Elements

10.11591/ijeecs.v10.i3.pp1013-1022
Norhuzaimin Julai , Ahmed M. A. Haidar , Abdul Rahman Kram
Soft errors are a serious concern in state holders as it can cause temporarily malfunction of the circuit. C-element is one of the state holders that is used widely in the asynchronous circuit. In this paper, the investigation will focus on the vulnerability of two types of C-element towards soft errors. A framework has been proposed for the rate of error due to neutron spectrum energy that can cause failure in the state holder. Effective analysis has been conducted on two different C-elements at different nodes by using UMC90 nm technology and 180nm technology. Based on the vulnerability data, a method for assessing vulnerability on a different implementation of C-elements has been developed. From the obtained data, it can be concluded that SIL is more resistant towards soft errors.

A New Method for Ball Tracking Based on α-β, Linear Kalman and Extended Kalman Filters Via Bubble Sort Algorithm

10.11591/ijeecs.v10.i3.pp989-999
Hathiram Nenavath , Ravi Kumar Jatoth
Object tracking is one of the challenging issues in computer vision and video processing, which has several potential applications. In this paper, initially, a moving object is selected by frame differencing method and extracted the object by segment thresholding. The bubble sort algorithm (BSA) arranges the regions (large to small) to make sure that there is at least one big region (object) in object detection process. To track the object, a motion model is constructed to set the system models of Alpha-Beta (α-β) filter, Linear Kalman filter (LKF) and Extended Kalman filter (EKF). Many experiments have been conducted on balls with different sizes in image sequences and compared their tracking performance in normal light and bad light conditions. The parameters obtained are the root mean square error (RMSE), absolute error (AE), object tracking error (OTE), Tracking detection rate (TDR), and peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) and they are compared to find the algorithm that performs the best for two conditions.

This paper presents the performance of a fabricated small-sized Savonious wind turbine with two blades. The design of Savonius vertical axis wind turbine (VAWT) was based on Malaysia wind speed condition. Meanwhile, the design of wind concentrator was based on the dimensions and the constant airflow of an air compressor. From the experimental testing in a laboratory, it was found that the proposed Savonious turbine has best performance when tested using wind concentrator. To conclude, airflow from air compressor can be increased when the proposed wind concentrator is used and hence increasing the proposed VAWT performance in terms of its angular speed (ω), tip speed ratio (TSR) and the generated electrical power (PE).

Preeti Hemnani , A. K. Rajarajan , Gopal Joshi , S. V. G. Ravindranath
NQR spectrometer designed is composed of four modules; Transmitter, Probe, Receiver and computer controlled (FPGA & Software) module containing frequency synthesizer, synchronous demodulator, pulse programmer and display. The function of the Transmitter module is to amplify the RF pulse sequence to about 200 W power level into the probe (50 Ohm) which is a parallel resonance circuit with a tapped capacitor. The probe excites the nucleus and picks-up the signal emitted from the nuclei. The nuclear signal at the same frequency as the excitation, which is typically in the range of a few microvolts is amplified, demodulated and filtered (1 kHz to 100 kHz) by receiver module. 14N NQR, 1H and 2H NMR signals are observed from the spectrometer. As the SNR of NQR signal is very low, NQR signal processing based on Adaptive Line Enhancement is presented.

Detection and correction of faulty elements in a linear array have great importance in radar, sonar, mobile communications and satellite. Due to single element failure, the whole radiation pattern damage in terms of side lobes level and nulls. Once we have detect the position of defective element, then correction method is applied to achieve the desired pattern. In this work, we introduce a nature inspired meta-heuristic cuckoo search algorithm to diagnose the position of defective elements in a linear array. The nature inspired cuckoo search algorithm is new to the optimization family and is used first time for fault detection in an array antenna. Cuckoo search algorithm is a global search optimization technique. The cost function is used as a fitness function which defines an error between the degraded far field power pattern and the estimated one. The proposed technique is used effectively for the diagnosis of complete, as well as, for partial faulty elements position. Different simulation results are evaluated for 40 elements Taylor pattern to validate and check the performance of the proposed technique.

Efficiency, reliability, high power quality and continuous operation are important aspects in electric vehicle attraction system. Therefore, quick fault detection, isolation and enhanced fault-tolerant control for open-switches faults in inverter driving systems become more and more required in this filed. However, fault detection and localization algorithms have been known to have many performance limitations due to speed variations such as wrong decision making of fault occurrence. Those weaknesses are investigated and solved in this paper using currents magnitudes fault indices, current direct component fault indices and a decision system. A simulation model and experimental setup are utilized to validate the proposed concept. Many simulation and experimental results are carried out to show the effectiveness of the proposed fault detection approach.

The aim of this paper is illustrating and exposing the performance of a Series Active Power Filter (SAPF) with PI controller and Fuzzy controller within simulation and experimental validations. This performance is best manifested in compensating the sags and the swells voltages and in eliminating the harmonic voltage and regulate the terminal voltage of the load by injecting a voltage component in series with source voltage which is increased or decreased from the source voltage, hence, maintaining the load side waveforms as pure sinusoidal. The control method used in this work is not so complex and it is based on a phase locked loop (PLL) that is used to control the active filter. It is valid only in the phase system. The efficiency of the method I suggested is affirmed through simulation results by MATLAB\Simulink® and some prototypes experiments. These results shows the capability of the proposed prototypes
