In this paper, a robust range-free localization algorithm by realizing best hop length optimization is proposed for node localization problem in wireless sensor networks (WSNs). This algorithm is derived from classic DV-Hop method but the critical hop length between any relay nodes is accurately computed and refined in space WSNs with arbitrary network connectivity. In case of network parameters hop length between nodes can be derived without complicated computation and further optimized using Kalman filtering in which guarantees robustness even in complicated environment with random node communication range. Especially sensor fusion techniques used has well gained robustness, accuracy, scalability, and power efficiency even without accurate distance or angle measurement which is more suitable in nonlinear conditions and power limited WSNs environment. Simulation results indicate it gained high accuracy compared with DV-Hop and Centroid methods in random communication range conditions which proves it gives characteristic of high robustness. Also it needs relatively little computation time which possesses high efficiency. It can well solve localization problem with many unknown nosed in the network and results prove the theoretical analysis.

Robotic autonomous telescopes provide highlevel control by selecting astronomical targets for observation, and they usually run under the control of a scheduler. TalonVIEW is a newly designed robotic autonomous telescope control system (TCS) for 16 inches telescope mount for use in astronomical transient events. The telescope control algorithm was implemented in PXI chassis written in GProgramming (LabVIEW) on realtime operating system(PharLab) from scratch. A new TCP/IP library was also implemented in Talon software to communicate with Pharlab in PXI chassis. Initial setup without any permanent pier and polar alignment showed that the pointing error of the telescope has been obtained as 2.22 arcminutes (132 arcseconds) in RA axis (horizontal axis of the image) and 25 arcseconds in Dec axis (vertical axis of the image), and tracking error has been observed as 4.8 arcseconds per second.

A Contention-Based Routing Protocol for VANET

10.12928/telkomnika.v14i1.2743
Deling; Southwest Jiaotong University Huang , Yusong; Southwest Jiaotong University Yan
In VANETs, vehicles as nodes are self-organized and inter-communicated without centralized authority. The topology formed by vehicles changes quickly, which makes routing become instability. Position-based routing, compared with traditional routing, is more scalable and feasible. Thus it has been proven stabler for VANETs than conventional routing. However, the frequently changed topology and nodes density could break the path a packet is following. Thus designing a robust multi-hop routing in VANET is challenging. This paper proposes an enhanced position-based routing protocol called CBGR, which takes into account the velocity and direction of vehicles in VANET. Simulation results show that CBGR achieves a high level of routing performance in terms of hop counts, network latency and packet delivery ratio both in dense or sparse vehicular ad-hoc networks.

Md. Mahbubul Islam , Tanjim Mahmud , Mohammad Shahadat Hossain
The general public’s demand of Bangladesh for safe health is rising promptly with the improvement of the living standard.  However, the allocation of limited and unbalanced medical resources is deteriorating the assurance of safe health of the people. Therefore, the new hospital construction with rational allocation of resources is imminent and significant. The site selection for hospital is one of the crucial policy-related decisions taken by planners and policy makers. The process of hospital site selection is inherently complicated because of this involves many factors to be measured and evaluated. These factors are expressed both in objective and subjective ways where as a hierarchical relationship exists among the factors. In addition, it is difficult to measure qualitative factors in a quantitative way, resulting incompleteness in data and hence, uncertainty. Besides it is essential to address the subject of uncertainty by using apt methodology; otherwise, the decision to choose a suitable site will become inapt. Therefore, this paper demonstrates the application of a novel method named belief rule-based inference methodology-RIMER base intelligent decision system(IDS), which is capable of addressing suitable site for hospital by taking account of large number of criteria, where there exist factors of  both subjective and objective nature.

Coded modulation scheme introduce robust and reliable system. It combine coding and modulation in one system. This paper show performance of coded modulation with coding rate 2/3, using 8PSK and convolutional coding that implemented in MC CDMA system. MC CDMA is one of multicarrier system  that combine OFDM and CDMA so its offer reliable system in frequency selective fading. Decoding process for coded modulation is done by using log likelihood ratio for least significant bit (define the subset) and the entire bits (member of subset). Simulation result shown that coded modulation in MC CDMA system have a good performance in flat fading and frequency selective fading.

Abstract Cognitive radio (CR) provides a theoretical foundation to achieve the cognitive function and collaborative function for the positioning nodes. Under this trend, the cognitive positioning system (CPS) has emerged. But the limitation of the traditional range accuracy adaptation criterion based on Cramér-Rao Lower Bound (CRLB) makes it very diffcult to put CPS into practices. To overcome this problem, it is necessary to further study the criterion in complex noise environment. Based on the time of arrival (TOA) location estimation algorithm, we analyze the performance of the range accuracy adaptation algorithm, which take the Ziv-Zakai lower bound information (ZZLB) as the CPS parameter optimization criterion. Simulation results show that the bound can provide more complete range accuracy adaptation information compared with CRLB. Furthermore, we can improve the positioning accuracy by means of enhancing the system signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), adjusting the system bandwidth and increasing the observation duration.

High-Speed Computation using FPGA for Excellent Performance of Direct Torque Control of Induction Machines

10.12928/telkomnika.v14i1.3110
Tole; Universitas Ahmad Dahlan Sutikno , Nik Rumzi; Universiti Teknologi Malaysia Nik Idris , Auzani; Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka Jidin
The major problems in hysteresis-based DTC are high torque ripple and variable switching frequency. In order to minimize the torque ripple, high sampling time and fast digital realization should be applied. The high sampling and fast digital realization time can be achieved by utilizing high-speed processor where the operation of the discrete hysteresis regulator is becoming similar to the operation of analog-based comparator. This can be achieved by utilizing field programmable gate array (FPGA) which can perform a sampling at a very high speed, compared to the fact that developing an ASIC chip is expensive and laborious.

This paper is under in-depth investigation due to suspicion of possible plagiarism on a high similarity index. The region merging algorithm by the maximal similarity with color histogram has been applied successfully in color image segmentation. However, only using color histogram information is not sufficient and effective for superior segmentation. We propose a novel color image segmentation method based on region merging by using joint color-texture histogram in this paper. The proposed method incorporates both color histogram and texture histogram information to measure the similarity of different regions and thus to guide the region merging process. Experiments show that our method is more accurate and robust than traditional image segmentation methods based on region merging.

10.12928/telkomnika.v14i1.2798
Freddy; Sekolah Tinggi Teknologi Adisutjipto Kurniawan , Haruno; Sekolah Tinggi Teknologi Adisutjipto Sajati , Okto; Sekolah Tinggi Teknologi Adisutjipto Dinaryanto
Adaptive traffic controller systems based on image processing have been developed widely. Nevertheless, in a developing country, the systems often could not be easily applied because all types of vehicle use the same road. Therefore, to overcome the problem, the new concept of the systems is proposed. The systems were developed from a pre-timed traffic controller system that based on AVR microcontroller. By default, the systems use the signal-timing plans to control the vehicle flow. To accommodate the traffic variations, a new method of vehicle detection has been built. The method calculated an intensity histogram standard deviation of the image representing a detection area to determine traffic density of each intersection lane. The systems modified the green-time of each lane based on the traffic density. The method could detect all types of vehicles and work properly in a day and a night time.

Design and Implementation of a Microcontroller Based Buck Boost Converter as a Smooth Starter for Permanent Magnet Motor

10.11591/ijeecs.v1.i3.pp566-574
S. Ravi , Vitaliy Mezhuyev , K. Iyswarya Annapoorani , P. Sukumar
This proposal proposes a DC/DC Buck Boost converter which has been used as a smooth starter for a DC Permanent Magnet Motor. In the existing system the DC/DC Buck Converter is used which provide the output less than the input Signal. Using buck converter it is difficult to increase the value of the input signal. Hence DC/DC Buck- Boost Converter used from which it is possible to get both the increased and decreased output from the given input. Previously pulse width modulation signals with respective to motor voltage is used. However they produce variations in the voltage and current of the motor. The above problem is overcome by using DC/DC Power converter. The proposed system with reduction in size, reduced ripples and increase in speed makes the system to operate at both low and high power applications. The proposed system results in higher efficiency, reduces the ripple content and the stress. The results are validated through MATLAB/Simulink and real time implementation.

Twitter Tweet Classifier

10.11591/ijai.v5.i1.pp41-44
Ashwin V
This paper addresses the task of building a classifier that would categorise tweets in Twitter. Microblogging nowadays has become a tool of communication for Internet users. They share opinion on different aspects of life. As the popularity of the microblogging sites increases the closer we get to the era of Information Explosion.Twitter is the second most used microblogging site which handles more than 500 million tweets tweeted everyday which translates to mind boggling 5,700 tweets per second. Despite the humongous usage of twitter there isn’t any specific classifier for these tweets that are tweeted on this site. This research attempts to segregate tweets and classify them to categories like Sports, News, Entertainment, Technology, Music, TV, Meme, etc. Naïve Bayes, a machine learning algorithm is used for building a classifier which classifies the tweets when trained with the twitter corpus. With this kind of classifier the user may simply skim the tweets without going through the tedious work of skimming the newsfeed.

A Cellular Automata (CA) model is used for visualizing and predicting spreading pattern of the disease. The main problem of this model is how to find a function that represents an update rule that changes the state of a cell in time steps affected by neighborhood. This research aims to develop visualization and prediction model of the spreading patterns of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever. The contribution of our study is to introduce a new approach in defining a probabilistic function that represents CA transmission rule by employing Von Neumann neighborhood and the Hidden Markov Model (HMM). This study only considered an infective state which dedicated particular attention to the spatial distribution of infected areas. The infected data were devided into four categories and change the definition of a cell as an area. The evaluation was conducted by comparing the results of the proposed model to that of one yielded by a Susceptible-Infected-Recovered (SIR) model. The evaluation result showed that the CA model was capable of generating patterns that similar to the patterns generated by SIR models with a similarities value of 0.95.

In high-speed railway environment, frequent handovers and high handover failure probability result in serious communication interruptions and call drops, which become pressing problem to be solved. Alternative reference point based handover scheme can be an applicative solution for high-speed rail. This paper analyzes the impact of handover location on the handover performance. And numerical analysis is utilized to give a method to determine the distance from the serving eNodeB and the adjacent one to the mobile terminal when handover is triggered. Handover failure probability is used as criteria for performance. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme has a better performance than typical event based scheme in high speed environment.
