CSIS: Cloud Service Identification System

To meet the need of the computational power, most of the users may go for a cloud based services for its scalability, flexibility and reliability. Cloud services have become an integral part of IT and analytical enterprises. Owing to increase in necessity of commercial cloud products being readily available, it has become extremely difficult for users to identify suitable cloud services. This paper proposes the recommender system precisely designed for the discovery of cloud services. Though there is an exponential increase in demand for cloud services, the amount of research done in this particular field is abysmal. Cloud Service Identification System (CSIS) crawls through Internet, identifies cloud services and stores them in a database. The user’s search query is processed and recommends cloud services accurately.

A Review on Fuzzy-GA based Controller for Power Flow Control in Grid Connected PV System

Now-a-days Renewable Energy Sources became an alternative to meet the increasing load demand because they are environmental friendly and also available abundant in nature. Among the Renewable Energy Sources, the Photo Voltaic (PV) System is gaining more attention due abundant availability of solar energy. The Maximum Power Point Tracking Technique is used to extract maximum power from the Photo Voltaic (PV) Array. When there is a need to transfer bulk amount of power from PV Array to Power Grid, the power quality issues, especially the real and reactive power flow problems, are a major concern. In this paper a novel control technique was proposed to control the power flow and to deal with power quality issues that arise when PV Array is integrated with power grid. It consists of a Fuzzy-GA based Cascaded Controller fed Flexible AC Transmission System device, namely Unified Power Flow Controller, for effective control of real and reactive power flow in grid connected photovoltaic system. The output of the Fuzzy Logic Controller is a control vector which is fine tuned by using Genetic Algorithm approach.

Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks: Growth and Survey for Three Layers

A vehicular ad hoc network (VANET) is a mobile ad hoc network that allows wireless communication between vehicles, as well as between vehicles and roadside equipment. Communication between vehicles promotes safety and reliability, and can be a source of entertainment. We investigated the historical development, characteristics, and application fields of VANET and briefly introduced them in this study. Advantages and disadvantages were discussed based on our analysis and comparison of various classes of MAC and routing protocols applied to VANET. Ideas and breakthrough directions for inter-vehicle communication designs were proposed based on the characteristics of VANET. This article also illustrates physical, MAC, and network layer in details which represent the three layers of VANET. The main works of the active research institute on VANET were introduced to help researchers track related advanced research achievements on the subject.

Biometric Identification and Authentication Providence using Fingerprint for Cloud Data Access

The raise in the recent security incidents of cloud computing and its challenges is to secure the data. To solve this problem, the integration of mobile with cloud computing, Mobile biometric authentication in cloud computing is presented in this paper. To enhance the security, the biometric authentication is being used, since the Mobile cloud computing is popular among the mobile user. This paper examines how the mobile cloud computing (MCC) is used in security issue with finger biometric authentication model. Through this fingerprint biometric, the secret code is generated by entropy value. This enables the person to request for accessing the data in the desk computer. When the person requests the access to the authorized user through Bluetooth in mobile, the Authorized user sends the permit access through fingerprint secret code. Finally this fingerprint is verified with the database in the Desk computer. If it is matched, then the computer can be accessed by the requested person.

Counselove: Marital Counseling Android-based Application to Promote Marital Satisfaction

This paper presents the development of Android-based framework for improving marital satisfaction. Classic research in psychology found that stability of marriage is based on the ability to create and maintain a positive interaction ratio five times more than negative interactions. Based on that, we present Counselove, a mobile application intended to record information of daily positive behaviors (joking, showing affection) of couples who use the application. We propose a method where the apps can determine users’ marital satisfaction level and also can help users increasing their marital satisfaction based on the relationship satisfaction questionnaire and the assessment of user’s self reported behaviors to their partners using fuzzy logic. The experimental results shown the application is running well on mobile devices based on Android platform. Lastly, we provide result of in depth interview with two users. Further research and development of the Counselove apps are discussed.

A Numerical Design of Marine Current for Predicting Velocity and Kinetic Energy

One of marine current power plant equipment is turbine. In the design of marine current turbines required variables such as velocity and kinetic energy. This paper presents numerical study on a numerical design of marine current for predicting velocity and kinetic energy in the Bangka strait, North Sulawesi, Indonesia that developed from Yaxum/3D model. This study includes the simulation of velocity and kinetic energy distributions at low and high tide current conditions by two flow rates of 0.1 and 0.3 Sv respectively.  The numerical method used to design computational program. Semi-implicit finite difference method used to 3D shallow water flow.  It found distributions of velocity and kinetic energy at high tide current condition greater than low tide current condition. The future, these results will be developed in marine current power plant project in the Bangka strait, North Sulawesi, Indonesia.

Study of Wind Turbine based Variable Reluctance Generator using Hybrid FEMM-MATLAB Modeling

Based on exhaustive review of the state of the art of the electric generators fitted to Wind Energy Conversion System (WECS), this study is focused on an innovative machine that is a Variable Reluctance Generator (VRG). Indeed, its simple and rugged structure (low cost), its high torque at low speed (gearless), its fault-tolerance (lowest maintenance), allow it to be a potential candidate for a small wind power application at variable wind speed. For better accuracy, a finite element model of a studied doubly salient VRG is developed using open source software FEMM to identify the electromagnetic characteristics such as linkage flux, torque or inductance versus rotor position and stator excitation. The obtained data are then transferred into  look-up tables of MATLAB/Simulink to perform various simulations. Performance of the proposed wind power system is analyzed for several parameters and results are discussed.

Performance Analysis of Post Compensated Long Haul High Speed Coherent Optical OFDM System

This paper addresses the performance analysis of OFDM transmission system based on coherent detection over high speed long haul optical links with high spectral efficiency modulation formats such as Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (QAM) as a mapping method prior to the OFDM multicarrier representation. Post compensation is used to compensate for phase noise effects. Coherent detection for signal transmitted at bit rate of 40 Gbps is successfully achieved up to distance of 3200km. Performance is analyzed in terms of Symbol Error Rate and Error Vector Magnitude by varying Optical Signal to Noise Ratio (OSNR) and varying the length of the fiber i.e transmission distance. Transmission performance is also observed through constellation diagrams at different transmission distances and different OSNRs.

Barriers and Challenges to Telecardiology Adoption in Malaysia Context

Mainly in infrastructure deficient communities, telecardiology is considered as a complement to insufficient cardiac care. Telecardiology can reduce travelling and waiting time, enables information sharing in shorter time and facilitate care in rural and remote areas. A qualitative study examined the perspectives of health care providers: cardiologist and general physician and health care service receivers: patient and public towards telecardiology adoption. The barriers in telecardiology adoption were identified in this paper. It includes practicality of telecardiology, the need of education for staffs and administrators, ease of use, preferred face-to-face consultation, cost and confidentiality. Improvements can be done by the implementers based on this study in order to promote telecardiology successfully in Malaysia.

Performance Evaluation of GaN based Thin Film Transistor using TCAD Simulation

As reported in past decades, gallium nitride as one of the most capable compound semiconductor, GaN-based high-electron mobility transistors are the focus of intense research activities in the area of high power, high-speed, and high-temperature transistors. In this paper we present a design and simulation of the GaN based thin film transistor using sentaurus TCAD for the extracting the electrical performance. The resulting GaN TFTs exhibits good electrical performance in the simulated results, including, a threshold voltage of 12-15 V, an on/off current ratio of 6.5×107 ~8.3×108, and a sub-threshold slope of 0.44V/dec. Sentaurus TCAD simulations is the tool  which offers study of comprehensive behavior of semiconductor structures with ease. The simulation results of the TFT structure based on gallium nitride active channel have great prospective in the next-generation flat-panel display applications.

A Three-Point Directional Search Block Matching Algorithm

This paper proposes compact directional asymmetric search patterns, which we have named as three-point directional search (TDS). In most fast search motion estimation algorithms, a symmetric search pattern is usually set at the minimum block distortion point at each step of the search. The design of the symmetrical pattern in these algorithms relies primarily on the assumption that the direction of convergence is equally alike in each direction with respect to the search center. Therefore, the monotonic property of real-world video sequences is not properly used by these algorithms. The strategy of TDS is to keep searching for the minimum block distortion point in the most probable directions, unlike the previous fast search motion estimation algorithms where all the directions are checked. Therefore, the proposed method significantly reduces the number of search points for locating a motion vector. Compared to conventional fast algorithms, the proposed method has the fastest search speed and most satisfactory PSNR values for all test sequences.

Performance Evaluation of Interactive Video Streaming over WiMAX Network

Nowadays, the desire of internet access and the need of digital encodings have influenced quite a large number of users to access high quality video application. Offering multimedia services not only to the wired but to wireless mobile client is becoming more viable. In wireless medium, video-streaming still has high resource requirements, for example, bandwidth, traffic priority, smooth play-backs. Therefore, bandwidth demands of these applications are far exceeding the capacity of 3G and Wireless Local Area Networks (LANs). The current research demonstrates the introductory understanding of the Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMax) network, applications, the mechanisms, its potential features, and techniques used to provide QoS in WiMAX, and lastly the network is simulated  to report the diverse requirements of streamed video conferencing traffic and its specifications. For this purpose two input parameters of video traffic are selected, i.e, refresh rate, which is monitored in terms of frames per second and pixel resolutions which basically counts the number of pixels in digital imaging. The network model is developed in OPNET. Different outcomes from simulation based models are analyzed and appropriate reasons are also discussed. Apart from this, the second aim of the current research is to address whether WiMAX access technology for streaming video applications could provide comparable network performance to Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL). For this purpose network metrices such as End to End delay and throughput is taken into consideration for optimization.

Prioritized Sweeping Reinforcement Learning Based Routing for MANETs

In this paper, prioritized sweeping confidence based dual reinforcement learning based adaptive network routing is investigated. Shortest Path routing is always not suitable for any wireless mobile network as in high traffic conditions, shortest path will always select the shortest path which is in terms of number of hops, between source and destination thus generating more congestion. In prioritized sweeping reinforcement learning method, optimization is carried out over confidence based dual reinforcement routing on mobile ad hoc network and path is selected based on the actual traffic present on the network at real time. Thus they guarantee the least delivery time to reach the packets to the destination. Analysis is done on 50 Nodes Mobile ad hoc networks with random mobility. Various performance parameters such as Interval and number of nodes are used for judging the network. Packet delivery ratio, dropping ratio and delay shows optimum results using the prioritized sweeping reinforcement learning method.

A Hybrid Fuzzy Logic FOPID Position Controller for DC Motor Driving Tracking Systems System

This paper presents a developed application for using Fraction Order PID controller (FOPID) in controlling of DC motors installed incelestron telescope, this is done through controlling the angles of two DC motors driven the telescope. The model of celestron telescope is mathematically represented by highly non linear differential equations, this types of nonlinear model is recommended to be controlled using Artificial Intelligent based controller. In this paper, optimal fuzzy FOPID is implemented instead of conventional PID controllers. Genetic Algorithm, fuzzy logic are used for  tuning the FOPID parameters.FOPID  controller is based on  position error and its rate of change as an input vector, the proposed controller set presents a complete precision in forcing the telescope motors to satisfy the predefined position. The simulation results show the dynamic response of the system and the enhancement achieved in rising time and settling time when using FOPID. The response of FOPID is compared with the conventional PID with the same input position reference.

Study of the Different Transmission Line Faults for a Grid Connected Wind Farm with Different Types of Control Method for RSC

Wind power stations, many  located in remote areas; so they are characterized by weak grids and are often submitted to power system disturbance like faults. In this paper, the behaviour of a wind energy conversion system that uses the control of the rotor side converter (RSC) by three different methods  under faulty conditions is presented. The behaviour of these systems during a grid failure is an important issue.  DFIG is analysed and simulated under differing faulty conditions in the environment of MATLAB/SIMULINK. Simulation results show that the proposed method has proper operation during fault conditions.
