https://ijpeds.iaescore.com/index.php/IJPEDS/article/view/5037
Nakul Thombre , Priyanka Rana , Ratika Singh Rawat , Umashankar S
This paper introduces new topology of cascaded multilevel inverter, with considerable reduction in the number of switches and DC voltage sources. The proposed topology is based on asymmetrical multilevel inverter which produces 21 levels of output with the use of 11 unidirectional switches, 3 diodes and 4 DC voltage sources. The advantages of this topology are reduction in the number of switches (2 nos.) and gate driver circuits (2 nos.), reduction in the number of DC sources (2 nos.) also cost, complexity, and space required for hardware is reduced  without sacrificing the quality output of the inverter. To reduce the THD further Level shifting SPWM techniques such as PD, POD & APOD are used and comparison is shown on the basis of THDs obtained from the above SPWM techniques. Frequency of carrier waves is 1KHz, and modulation index is 1.0. To validate the proposed topology the circuit is simulated and verified by using MATLAB/Simulink.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijpeds.v5i1.5810

Concurrent Detection and Classification of Faults in Matrix Converter using Trans-Conductance

https://ijpeds.iaescore.com/index.php/IJPEDS/article/view/5042
Sarah Azimi , Mehdi Vejdaniamiri
This paper presents a fault diagnostic algorithm for detecting and locating open-circuit and short-circiut faults in switching components of matrix converters (MCs) which can be effectively used to drive a permanent magnet synchronous motor for research in critical applications. The proposed method is based on monitoring the voltages and currents of the switches. These measurements are used to evaluate the forward trans-conductance of each transistor for different values of switch voltages. These trans-conductance values are then compared to the nominal values. Under healthy conditions, the values obtained for the fault signal is less than the tolerable value. Under the open/short-circuit conditions, the fault signal exceeds the threshold, hence enables the matrix converter drive to detect and exactly identify the location of the faulty IGBT. The main advantages of this diagnostic method include fast detection and locating of the faulty IGBT, easiness of implementation and independency of the modulation strategy of the converter.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijpeds.v5i1.6065

Multilevel inverters are increasingly being used in high-power medium voltage industrial drive applications due to their superior performance compared to conventional two-level inverters. Thre are a number of Pulse width modulation (PWM) techniques applied in recent years. The most widely applied PWM techniques are Sine Pulse Width Modulation (SPWM) and Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation (SVPWM).  SPWM is the most simple modulation technique that can realize easily in analog circuit.  However, it has some drawbacks such as higher total harmonic distortion (THD), lower effective DC utilization and lower switching frequency. Space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) is widely used because of their easier digital realization and better DC bus utilization and lower THD. The complexity is due to the difficulty in determining the reference vector location, on times calculation, and switching states selection. This paper presents a simple SVPWM algorithm for diode clamped three level inverters based on standard two-level SVPWM which can easily determine the location of reference vector, calculate the on-times, the selection of switching states. Three level diode clamped inverter (3LDCI) using space vector modulation technique has been modeled and simulated using MATLAB/SIMULINK and Origin 6.1 with a passive R-L load that can be extended to any level. Simulation results are presented to verify the proposed SVPWM control in terms of THD. The results are compared with conventional sinusoidal pulse width modulation (SPWM) where SVPWM shows better performance than SPWM in terms of THD.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijpeds.v5i1.6038

Multilevel inverters with more number of levels can produce high quality voltage waveforms. In this paper, a new single-phase structure for multilevel voltage source inverter is proposed which can generate a large number of levels with reduced number of IGBTs, gate driver circuits and diodes. Three algorithms for determination of dc voltage sources’ magnitudes are presented which provide odd and even levels at the output voltage waveform. A comparison is presented between proposed multilevel inverter and conventional cascade topology. The proposed topology is analyzed by the experimental and simulation results.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijpeds.v5i1.6218

Switched reluctance motor (SRM) is becoming popular because of its simple construction, robustness and low-maintenance. This motor is very useful for high speed applications because no windings are placed on rotor and can also be used for variable speed applications in industries. Converter is one of the important elements in SRM which plays a very crucial role. In this paper various converter topologies for 6/4 switched reluctance motor and Asymmetric bridge converter topology for 8/6 switched reluctance motor are discussed. Finally a closed loop for each converter topology is proposed. The converter topologies are simulated by using MATLAB/SIMULINK. Constant speed is achieved in closed loop control.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijpeds.v5i1.6133

https://ijpeds.iaescore.com/index.php/IJPEDS/article/view/5032
Omonowo David Momoh
The analysis of a carrier-based PWM two level voltage source inverter for a nine phase induction machine drive system is presented in this paper. Methods for generating zero-sequence signals during balanced and unbalanced condition are established. Simulation results for the analysis are presented. Two fault conditions involving the voltage source inverter and the nine-phase squirrel cage induction machine load are investigated. For the two fault scenarios considered, the effects on the performance characteristics of the induction machine load are highlighted. The simulation results obtained show that the two imbalance conditions considered result in substantial oscillations on the electromagnetic torque of the machine with attendant reduction in the torque rating. There is also large slip in the rotor speed.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijpeds.v5i1.6175

The use of multilevel inverters has become popular in recent years for high-power applications. Multilevel Inverters are power converter systems composed by an array of power semiconductor sources that when properly connected and controlled can generate a multistep voltage waveform with variable and controllable frequency, phase and amplitude. This study deals with the comparison of a 7-level inverter with a 9-level inverter system; the voltage source inverters (VSI) are modelled and simulated using MATLAB Simulink and the results are presented. The test results verify the effectiveness of the proposed strategy in terms of computational efficiency as well as the capability of the inverter to produce very low distorted voltage with low-switching losses. This research aims to extend the knowledge about the performance of different clamped multilevel inverter through harmonic analysis. Simulations results validate up to the mark performance of the mentioned topologies.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijpeds.v5i1.6190

Dynamic Error Analysis of CMM Based on Variance Analysis and Improved PLSR

10.11591/ijeecs.v12.i7.pp5342-5349
Zhang Mei , Cheng Fang , Li Guihua
It is difficult to build an accurate model to predict the dynamic error of CMM by analyzing error sources. An innovative modeling method based on Variance Analysis and Improved Partial Least-square regression (IPLSR) is proposed to avoid analyzing the interaction of error sources and to overcome the multi-collinearity of Ordinary Least-square regression (OLSR). Among many impact factors the most influential parameters are selected as the independents of the model, by means of variance analysis. The proposed modeling method IPLSR can not only avoid the analysis of the error sources and the interactions, but can also solve the problem of multi-collinearity in OLSR. From experimental data the expository capability of this IPLSR model can be calculated as 85.624 percent, and the mean square error is 0.94μm. As comparison, the mean square values of conventional PLSR and OLSR are 1.04μm and 1.39μm, respectively. So IPLSR has higher predicting precision and better expository capability.

Variable Step Size Blind Equalization based on Sign Gradient Algorithm

10.11591/ijeecs.v12.i7.pp5491-5498
Ying Xiao , Fuliang Yin
This work proposes a variable step size sign gradient algorithm to solve the problem of blind equalization under impulse noise environment. This algorithm suppresses the impulse noise interference effectively because of the sign operation on the instantaneous gradient based on constant modulus algorithm (CMA) cost function. Meanwhile, the excess mean square error can be further reduced by use of a variable step size algorithm based on the iterative times and the reliability of the output signal. Simulation results show that, the variable step size blind equalization based on sign gradient algorithm has the fastest convergence rate and the lowest steady state residue error compared with the fractional low order CMA, the nonlinear transform CMA and stop-and-go CMA.

Fan Chao , Zhang Dexian , Yang Tiejun , Fu Hongliang
To measure the stored grain quantity accurately and reliably, the measurement method based on the ground pressure is put forward. According to the randomness of the granary pressure distribution caused by the limited fluidity of the grain, the layout of the pressure on the ground is set up, and the mean pressure on the ground is used to represent the whole ground pressure. At the same time, the pressure distribution on the wall is analyzed and the compensation method is given, which can reduce the sensors used in this method and the cost is low. Lastly, the estimation model of the stored grain quantity based on the ground pressure is put forward, to improve the prediction accuracy of the grain weight, the parameters are estimated based on the ratio of the error. The experiment results shown that, the measurement error is less than 3% by using this method, which can meet the actual need of real-time online monitoring the national grain storage quantity and distribution effectively.
