Control Strategy Analysis on Preventive Maintenance

10.11591/ijeecs.v12.i9.pp6711-6724
Hong sheng Su , Yong qiang Kang , Juan di Li
ABSTRACTIn view of the limitations that the optimal examining item do not have dynamic real-time speciality and can’t reflect the actual state of devices in the traditional preventive maintenance(PM) model of repairable devices, in this paper a real-time control project on the checking rate of PM is proposed based on the state of devices. The differential equations used to describe the dynamic behavior of the system are established, and some performance indexes of maintenance systems including the steady-state availability, and the mean time to failure (MTTF), and as well as the average time of staying in each state are calculated. The control strategy on the checking rate is then proposed and the adaptability and the stability of the corresponding control system are analyzed. The essence of the method is to achieve the expected steady-state behavior by controlling the dynamic behavior of the system, which will ensure reliable completion of the task and reduce the maintenance cost meantime. Researches indicate that the proposed method is very effective to improve the utilization of devices and provide theoretical support for the practical applications.

This paper presents error analysis of ON-OFF controller as well as ANN controller which is applied to an automated irrigation system. Controlling irrigation system was conducted  based on revised Penman-Monteith evapotranspiration and compared to a reference of soil moisture. Input parameters of the evapotranspiration included temperature, heat radiation, atmosphere pressure and wind speed. The output data of evapotranspiration was then used as input variable of ON-OFF controller as well as ANN controller. The performance of such controllers were evaluated and compared based on error of both controllers. The simulation results show that the error of the ON-OFF controller can be adjusted by setting the sampling time of the dead zone discretization. Error of ON-OFF controller with sampling time of 0.05 second is equal to error of ANN controller, that is 14.3% of reference signal amplitude.

Tahir Ahmad , Sania Arif , Nazia Chaudry , Sadia Anjum
Poliovirus is the pathogenic agent of paralytic poliomyelitis that belongs to the picornaviridae family. Poliomyelitis has an extended history dating over to the Egyptian eighteenth dynasty. It was recognized as distinct disease in the late nineteenth century when the world was ravaged by large number of outbreaks and epidemics in many countries. Paralytic Polio, the rarest but the most severe form of the disease, is characterized by acute flaccid paralysis of any or rarely both of the limbs. Increasing epidemics during the late 19th and 20th centuries lead to the initiation of a worldwide global effort for polio eradication in 1988, super headed by WHO and various other organizations. The launch of Global Polio Eradication Initiative together with the introduction of two polio vaccines resulted in 99% reduction of wild poliovirus cases worldwide while the total number of polio-endemic countries dropped from 24 countries in the year 2000 to only three countries in 2012; Afghanistan, Nigeria and Pakistan. This review will focus on the general biology of poliovirus, some historic and geographic epidemiological aspects of poliomyelitis eradication during the year 2000-2012 and also on the major failing factors associated with the efficiency of the vaccines to eradicate polio in Pakistan.

Indirect Rotor Field-Oriented Control of Fault-Tolerant Drive System for Three-Phase Induction Motor with Rotor Resistance Estimation Using EKF

10.11591/ijeecs.v12.i9.pp6633-6643
Mohammad Jannati , N. R. N. Idris , M. J. A. Aziz
The performance of an Indirect Rotor Field-Oriented Control (IRFOC) scheme for Induction Motors (IMs) is strongly dependent on the motor parameters especially, rotor resistance. As such, to ensure high performance drive system, the variation of the rotor resistance due to the temperature increase need to be estimated based on the available terminal variables. However, the algorithm used to estimate the rotor resistance for a balanced Three-Phase Induction Motor (TPIM) cannot be used for an open-phase fault IM; this is because the model of a faulty machine is different from the balanced 3-phase machine. In this paper, an IRFOC of fault-tolerant drive system (with stator open-phase fault) for a TPIM with rotor resistance estimation using Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) is proposed. The performance of the EKF based rotor resistance estimator is evaluated under different operating conditions using MATLAB simulation package. The proposed algorithm for estimation of rotor resistance in this paper can be applied to either balanced TPIM or Faulty TPIM (FTPIM). The simulation results showed that the proposed system is able to overcome the rotor resistance variations, load disturbance as well as stator open-phase fault condition, with good tracking capability.

There is a consensus on the relationship between Malaria Prevalence (MP) and Environmental Factors (EF); however, there is a dearth of published data providing this evidence in a quantifiable way. This community based study was undertaken to identify the magnitude of the relationship between MP and key environmental factors in Okelele, Ilorin East Local Government Area of Kwara State, Nigeria. A multi-staged sampling procedure was adopted for the selection of 501 children from 200 households. Children under the age of 14 years in the selected households were sampled to obtain baseline MP using malaria Rapid Diagnostic Test (mRDT) kit. Key household informant interviews and structured questionnaire were used. Relevant socio-demographic characteristics of the households, EF and non EF were determined. Acquired data was analyzed using statistical tools to determine the relationship between various independent variables and mRDT. Variables were also entered into a multiple regression equation for the generation of a mathematical model. Ethical consent was obtained from the parents before samples were taken. The study showed that EF contributed to MP in the study area.  Integrated waste management system, and regular environmental sanitation were recommended.

Diarrhoea, a major contributor of childhood morbidity and mortality is mostly caused by poor hygiene and sanitation. Literature reveal that hygiene practices at household levels greatly affects the occurrence of diarrhoea among children. A cross sectional study was conducted to determine association between hygiene knowledge and practices of mothers with occurrence of diarrhoea in young children below 3 years in the tribal villages of Gujarat. Structured questionnaire was used to elicit information on personal hygiene (PH), food Hygiene (FH), and environmental Hygiene (EH) practices of 536 mothers with children between 6-36 months of age. Past one month diarrhoeal episodes were recorded using the recall method. The mean percent scores for FH, PH and EH practices were 77%, 88% and 80% respectively. Almost 35% children suffered from diarrhoea in the past one month of which 10 were admitted to the hospital. Diarrhoeal incidences were associated with FH and EH practices (p<0.001) and not with PH practices. Improvement in the environmental and personal hygiene practices of the mothers can contribute largely in reducing the prevalence of diarrhoea among children in Chikhli taluka of Gujarat.

In this paper, we first analyze the features and shortcomings of existing stochastic programming methods. For the bottleneck of higher computational complexity, we give the concept of reliability coefficient and a quasi-linear processing pattern for chance-constrain based on mathematic expectation and variance, analyze the relationship between reliability coefficient and reliability (probability), and give the selecting strategy of reliability coefficient. Then, we establish the quasi-linear stochastic programming model, and discuss the performance of this model by an example.
