Sayed A. Ward , Samy M. Ghania , Essam M. Shaalan
The high level electric field intensity produced by high voltage (HV) equipments inside 500/220 kV substations is harmful for the human (staff) health. Therefore the minimum health and safety requirements regarding the exposure of workers to the risk arising from electric fields produced inside these substations is still considered as a competitive topic for utility designers, world health organization (WHO) and biomedical field researchers. It is very important to have knowledge about levels distribution of electric field intensity within these high voltage substations as early stage in the process of substation design. This paper presents results of investigation 50Hz electric field intensity distribution inside 500/220 kV power transmission substations in Cairo, Egypt. This paper presents a method for assessment the distribution of 50HZ electric field intensity distribution inside this substation, this method of analysis is based on the charge simulation technique (CSM). This study will serve for planning service works or for inspection of equipment on HV power transmission substations.

Takako Kumagai , Yumiko Nakamura , Emi Naijo , Akiko Sugimoto , Barry Kavanagh , Haruyuki Ito
This research examined the lifestyles and eating habits of 42 elementary school fifth graders(20 boys and 22 girls) over a 3-day period; these children resided in theShimokita Peninsula, Aomori prefecture, which has the highest childhood obesityrate in Japan. The children’s nutritionalintakes were recorded via questionnaires and self-documented meal recorddiaries overa 3-day period (1 weekday and the weekend). The meal record diaries recorded which meals the children ate (including snacks) during the 3-day period. A regular feature of these children’s lifestyle was theviewing of at least 3 hours of television per day. Compared with the National Health and Nutrition Survey conductedby the Japanese government, the nutritionaland energy intake levels were the same but when we examined food group intakes, the vegetable intake was lower on weekends in comparison to the weekdays whenthe children were provided school lunches. In addition, salt intake exceededthe recommended standard in more than 80% of the study sample. We suggest thatthe pattern of reduced vegetable intake juxtaposed with high salt intake stemsfrom childhood and is repeated and passed down through generations; therefore, theguardians of these children require nutritional guidance and education.

10.11591/ijeecs.v12.i9.pp6732-6741
Luo Yi-Ping , Shen Ling , Cao Yi-Jia
This paper introduces a novel clustering algorithm that combines crisp and fuzzy clustering. It not only has the high accuracy of fuzzy clustering, but also reduces the dependency on initialization. Specifically, it constitutes a fast learning process and therefore, the convergence rate and the accuracy of the RBFNN are greatly improved. The simulation results show that this strategy is successfully applied to the fault diagnosis of electric power grid. The training speed and the fault-tolerance of information aberrance, which comes from the maloperation of the protections and breakers, are superior to the traditional RBFNN.

Yanling Shang , Ye Yuan
The problem of finite-time stabilization for networked control systems with both sensor-to-controller and controller-to-actuator packet dropouts is investigated in this paper.By using the iterative approach,  the NCSs with bounded packet dropout is modeled as switched linear systems. Sufficient conditions for finite-time stabilization of the underlying systems are derived via linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). Lastly, an illustrative example is given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed results.

10.11591/ijeecs.v12.i8.pp6324-6331
Yujie Yang , zhijun Zhang , Xintao Duan
Collaborative filtering (CF), as a personalized recommending technology, has been widely used in e-commerce and other many personalized recommender areas. However, it suffers from some problems, such as cold start problem, data sparsity and scalability, which reduce the recommendation accuracy and user experience. This paper aims to solve the data sparsity in CF. In the paper, cliques-based data smoothing approach is proposed to alleviate the data sparsity problem. First, users and items are divided into many cliques according to social network analysis (SNA) theory. Then, data smoothing proceeding is carried out to fill the missing ratings in user-item rating matrix based on the user and item cliques. Finally, the traditional user-based nearest neighbor recommendation algorithm is used to recommend items for users. The experiments show that the proposed approach can effectively improve the accuracy and performance on sparse data.

QR-based Channel Estimation for Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing Systems

10.11591/ijeecs.v12.i8.pp6217-6223
Peilong Jiang , Honggui Deng , Bin Lei
Channel estimation is the key technology for Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM),  which has direct impact on the performance of OFDM. In this paper, we present a novel QR-based algorithm to update the channel impulse response(CIR) for DFT-based channel estimation. The discrete Fourier transform(DFT) estimation reduces the noise power that exists outside of the CIR part, because the estimated CIR from LS has most of its power concentrated on the first L samples. To reduce the noise power that exists inside of the first L samples, the CIR is further processed by QR decomposition in proposed algorithm. The simulation results show that the bit-error-rate(BER) of our estimator has reduced significantly compared with the conventional DFT-based channel estimator and LS-linear estimation.

Tole Sutikno , Aiman Zakwan Jidin , Auzani Jidin , Nik Rumzi Nik Idris
This paper presents three strategies to implement non restoring square root algorithm based on FPGA. A new basic building block is called controlled subtract-multiplex (CSM) is introduced in first strategy which use gate level abstraction. The main principle of the method is similar with conventional non-restoring algorithm, but it only uses subtract operation and append 01, while add operation and append 11 is not used. Second strategy presents the first strategy in register transfer level (RTL) abstraction. In third strategy, a modification for the implementation of conventional non-restoring algorithm is presented which also use RTL abstraction. The all above strategies is implemented in VHDL programming and adopt fully pipelined architecture. The strategies have conducted to implement successfully in FPGA hardware, and each of the strategies is offer an efficient in hardware resource. In generally, the third strategy is superior.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v4i4.6008

https://ijece.iaescore.com/index.php/IJECE/article/view/5518
Md. Ruhul Amin , Rajib Baran Roy
In high voltage AC system, the system voltage and frequency change rapidly with the variation of load. The reactive power also changes with the variation of load which affects the system voltage therefore it is necessary to analyze the power system in order to determine system parameters and its variation under various load conditions. The capacitor bank size is determined by calculating existing reactive power and required reactive power in system for Static VAR Compensator (SVC) is focused in this paper. Base case load flow is used to analysis power system. After identifying low voltage buses, arbitrary caciptor back is imposed in bueses and results are checked whether it is met or not in the system demand level. Here MATLAB coding is used to find the low voltage affected bus and automated calculation of capacitor back size is done by MATLAB also. The proposed method of identification of low voltage buses and determination of capacitor bank are faster and easier than the conventional method.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v4i4.5803

10.11591/ijeecs.v12.i8.pp6393-6402
Zhigao Zheng , Jing Liu , Ping Wang , Shengli Sun
To overcome the limitations of the traditional collaborative filtering recommendation algorithm, this paper proposed a Time-Weighted Uncertain Nearest Neighbor Collaborative Filtering Algorithm (TWUNCF). According to the actual application situation of recommendation system, the author weighted the product similarity and user similarity to ensure the data validity firstly, and then calculate the similarities of user and product and choose the trusted neighbor group as the recommended object adaptively based on the weight. Experimental results show that the algorithm can be used to improve data validity according to the time attribute, and balance the impact the different groups on the recommendation result, and avoid the problems which caused by the data sparseness. Theoretical analysis and experimental demonstrations show that the algorithm this paper proposed outperforms existing algorithms in recommendation quality, and improve the system's accuracy and recommendation efficiency.

A Novel Retinal Blood Vessel Segmentation Algorithm using Fuzzy segmentation

https://ijece.iaescore.com/index.php/IJECE/article/view/5534
Razieh Akhavan , Karim Faez
Assessment of blood vessels in retinal images is an important factor for many medical disorders. The changes in the retinal vessels due to the pathologies can be easily identified by segmenting the retinal vessels. Segmentation of retinal vessels is done to identify the early diagnosis of the disease like glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, hypertensive retinopathy and arteriosclerosis. In this paper, we propose an automatic blood vessel segmentation method. The proposed algorithm starts with the extraction of blood vessel centerline pixels. The final segmentation is obtained using an iterative region growing method that merges the binary images resulting from centerline detection part with the image resulting from fuzzy vessel segmentation part. In this proposed algorithm, the blood vessel is enhanced using modified morphological operations and the salt and pepper noises are removed from retinal images using Adaptive Fuzzy Switching Median filter. This method is applied on two publicly available databases, the DRIVE and the STARE and the experimental results obtained by using green channel images have been presented and compared with recently published methods. The results demonstrate that our algorithm is very effective method to detect retinal blood vessels.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v4i4.6253
