Maha Ibrahim Khaleel , Amir Lakizadeh
As a variant of skin cancer, melanoma represents a substantial menace to the health and overall well-being of individuals. Statistics reveal that 55% of skin cancer patients succumb to this particular disease. However, early detection plays a crucial role in reducing mortality rates and saving lives. In the past several decades, there has been a rise in the adoption of deep learning algorithms, capturing the interest of researchers working in this field. One popular method involves utilizing pre-trained deep neural networks. In this study, a hybrid approach is employed to extract features from melanoma images. This approach integrates the utilization of pre-trained architectures, including AlexNet, ResNet-50, and GoogleNet. During the transfer training phase, these networks are fine-tuned to detect skin cancer by adjusting the learning rate. Subsequently, the maximum relevance minimum redundancy (MRMR) algorithm is employed to select optimal features based on the concepts of minimum redundancy and maximum relevance in order to minimize feature redundancy and enhance classification accuracy. The bagging technique is employed for the classification of various skin cancer types. The experimental results demonstrate the success of the suggested approach, yielding 98.9% accuracy. Furthermore, the results indicate the superiority of this method according to precision, recall, and F1-score in comparison with existing algorithms.

Sonam Vayaliparambil Maju , Gnana Prakasi Oliver Siryapushpam
Artificial intelligence (AI) paved the way and helping hand for the medical practitioners in various aspects and early disease prediction is one among many. Interdisciplinary research studies on the early prediction of diseases are often analyzed based on the accuracy of the prediction model. But how early these diseases can be predicted will not be answered in many of the research studies unless they have a time series data. This work proposes a machine learning model, ApDeC which solves the above-mentioned problem by generating association rules for the early disease prediction of Alzheimer patients. The ApDeC model calculates the probability of occurrence of eleven Alzheimer disease prediction risk factors and identifies the combination of diseases that can lead to Alzheimer disease. The association rules will be generated by considering the observed combination of risk factors. The research introduces an innovative approach that helps in the early prediction of Alzheimer disease from the risk factors/symptoms. The results show the strong correlation of diabetes and blood pressure with Alzheimer disease.

Exploring patient-patient interactions graphs by network analysis

10.11591/ijai.v14.i3.pp1752-1762
Zaher Salah , Esraa Abu Elsoud , Kamal Salah
Understanding how patient demographics and shared experiences impact interactions is essential for strengthening pa/tient support networks and optimizing health outcomes as personalized healthcare becomes more and more important. To this end, this study explores the patient-patient interactions (PPIs) graph as a network and applies selected network analysis approaches to examine the PPIs network of accutane drug. Two main research questions are addressed by gaining deeper insight at the hidden patterns of reactivity and connectivity among interchanging nodes. There was a negative response to the first research question, which asked if patients react to others that have similar gender and/or age profiles in a consistent way. Patients tended to interact with people of different genders and ages, indicating a high degree of heterogeneity in the network. Negative responses were likewise given to the second research question, which asked if communities inside the network could identify patients based on gender or age profile. Network analysis approaches for community detection failed to distinguish between groups with similar demographic characteristics. Rather, groups seemed to emerge based on other factors, like similarity in patient opinions. The results imply that gender and age do not have a major influence on community membership. Future research will concentrate on applying more sophisticated graph mining techniques to expand these approaches to cover more and larger PPIs networks.

Surface defects greatly affect the performance and service life of photovoltaic (PV) modules. Detecting these defects is important to improve the management, repair and maintenance of PV panels. With the development of artificial intelligence, computer vision brings higher accuracy and lower labor costs than traditional inspection methods. This paper introduces an improved PV you only look once v10 (YOLOv10) model for detecting surface defects of PV modules. The improvement includes adding an exponential moving average (EMA) attention mechanism to the neck, using a cycle generative adversarial network (GAN) to enhance the data, and replacing the YOLOv10 head with a YOLOv9 head to retain non-maximum suppression (NMS). Experiments show that the proposed model outperforms state-of-the-art methods such as YOLOv10s, n, x, b, l, and e, achieving superior detection accuracy. Despite the increased computational cost, the proposed method improved mAP@0.5 and mAP@0.5:0.95 by 5.1% and 6.5% over the original YOLOv10s.

Recent studies have highlighted that chest CT scans are crucial for accurately diagnosing COVID-19. However, in rural areas of Indonesia, people may have difficulty assessing CT scans, leading to increased undetected cases. To address this issue, we investigated whether chest X-rays (CXR) could replace CT scans in diagnosing COVID-19 patients. A diagnostic cross-sectional-based study was conducted at Fatmawati General Hospital from January to September 2021. The study included suspected COVID-19 patients in isolation wards and ICU who were over 18, with or without comorbidities, and had complete clinical data and laboratory tests. We analyzed imaging data through reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) tests, CXR, and chest CT scans. This study enrolled 150 eligible patients. With RT-PCR as the gold standard, we found that CXR had a sensitivity of 86.6% (95% CI: 78.9-92.3%) and chest CT scan had a sensitivity of 91.1% (95% CI: 84.2-95.6%). Similar performance was observed when detecting ground glass opacities (GGO), bilateral laterobasal, and influenza-like syndrome and dyspnea (ILI) between CXR and CT scans. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves demonstrated that CXR is comparable to CT scan, especially in ground glass opacity (GGO) and consolidation (AUC=0.72; 95% CI: 0.61-0.83 and AUC=0.710; 95% CI: 0.64-0.78). The proposed CXR method can be a reliable primary imaging tool for diagnosing COVID-19 by considering ILI. However, chest CT scans remain the most effective diagnostic method for COVID-19. These findings may be useful for the utilization of CXR for diagnosing COVID-19 in areas with limited access to CT scans.

Impedance matching and power recovery in response to coil misalignment in wireless power transmission

10.11591/ijece.v15i3.pp2556-2566
Lunde Ardhenta , Ichijo Hodaka , Kazuya Yamaguchi , Takuya Hirata
The improper alignment of the coils between the transmitter and receiver has a significant impact on wireless power transfer. If designers carefully calculate the parameters of inductance, capacitance, coupling coefficient, and working frequency and precisely implement these parameters into actual components, the system can optimize power transfer. However, it is evident that such a precise realization is often unachievable. This paper proposes a symbolic condition to maintain significant power despite the misalignment of transmitter and receiver coils. These symbolic conditions constrain parameters by simplifying some variables. This matching condition develops in the inequality of coupling coefficient, working frequency and quality factor, which are a crucial reference for maintaining power transfer. This condition is considered an additional one to the well-known impedance matching condition.

Mamidyala Durga Prasad , Nandini Balusu
In this paper, a workflow for bot is designed using robotic process automation (RPA) that is used to enhance learning management systems (LMS) by providing content from external sources along with educator made course content for better student learning experiences. Many students prefer to watch YouTube videos for learning, even if they have been taught the same content by an educator. YouTube is a dynamic platform where video rankings change based on viewer engagement, relevance, and newly included videos. This variability poses a challenge for educators seeking to include external videos, as the content environment within the LMS platform is unpredictable and can change significantly. The bot addresses the challenge by conducting periodic searches for related courses and topics on YouTube. It retrieves top-ranked videos based on relevance, which are then seamlessly integrated into external links within LMS. The LMS external links option enhances accessibility by offering videos sorted by popularity, ensuring students receive updated and relevant information seamlessly. The bot efficiently retrieves details of 750 videos from YouTube in just 17 seconds, showcasing its exceptional performance. Moreover, its capability to autonomously update LMS external links content weekly represents an added advantage. The bot is designed and tested using UiPath tool.

The study aimed to investigate the relationship between iron metabolism indicators such as ferritin and transferrin levels and glycosylated hemoglobin. Another goal of the current study is to draw the attention of the scientific and medical community to a very important issue regarding diagnostic and follow-up the diabetic patients which is the effect of iron status on HbA1c level. A cross-sectional study was conducted on (n=300) participants. The participant was assigned into three groups: the diabetes group (n=101), the prediabetes group (n=100), and the control group (n=99). A structured questionnaire with sociodemographic data and biochemical tests was applied. The results of the study found that there were significant differences in age among groups (p=0.05), with the diabetic group being younger than other groups. There is a direct positive relationship between HbA1c levels and ferritin (β=2%, p=0.001) and fasting blood sugar (β=1.8%, p=0.001). The findings also show an inverse relationship between glycosylated hemoglobin and transferrin (β=0.1%, p=0.001), as well as mean corpuscular volume (MCV) (β=1.8%, p=0.001). The study finding confirms a positive correlation between HbA1c with ferritin levels and a negative association with transferrin. Iron status in diabetes patients' treatment plans should considered while the interpretation of the HbA1c concentrations. In addition, diabetes patients' treatment plans should take ferritin level adjustment into account.
