10.11591/ijere.v14i3.31565
Leemarc C. Alia , Ehlrich Ray J. Magday , Daisy R. Palompon
Teaching internship is a crucial component of teacher education to prepare student teachers for their future careers in education. This study developed and validated an instrument to measure and evaluate the performance of cooperating teachers in mentoring student teachers. Items capturing the concept of teacher mentoring were developed through literature review, interviews, and focus group discussions. The 110-item 5-point Likert scale was given to 265 randomly selected student teachers from higher education institutions in the Philippines. Validity and reliability of the cooperating teacher mentoring scale (CTMS) were tested using exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and reliability analyses. Moreover, EFA showed three-factor structure of the instrument regarding the CTMS. The study reported the average variance extracted (AVE), composite reliability, and Cronbach alpha coefficients. These findings confirmed that the extracted constructs possess convergent validity and meet the necessary requirements. The item remained in the factor loadings of less than 0.50 (instructional support and professional development: 20 items; supportive teaching and mentorship: 15 items; and effective mentoring and coaching: 15 items). This study has confirmed three-factor structure of the CTMS. Researchers, educators, administrators, and student teachers can use the CTMS to evaluate cooperating teachers’ mentoring skills and provide feedback on areas that need improvement.

A modified circulating current suppression control based on MMC grid connected using NLM

10.11591/ijpeds.v16.i2.pp1051-1060
H. A. Hasan , Riyadh Kamil Chillab , Ahmed K. Hannan , Abdelrahman Farghly
High total harmonic distortion (THD) occurs when conventional circulating current suppression and modulation strategies fail to control arm circulating current in a modular multilevel converter (MMC) controlled by a virtual synchronous generator. This paper proposed a joint circulating current suppression technique that improves the proportional resonant controller's control mode and introduces the nearest level approach modulation (NLM) strategy for arm circulating current rectification. The MATLAB/Simulink program is used to conduct the simulations. The results show that: when the grid frequency does not fluctuate, the joint suppression strategy's arm current THD is 2.79%, 0.92% lower than the quasi-proportional resonant controller's (QPRC) THD; under primary frequency modulation, the suggested strategy's THD of the a-phase current is 1.75%, 1.03% lower than the QPRC's THD. Under typical operating conditions and with primary frequency management of the grid-type MMC, the results show that the proposed combined circulating current suppression technique may successfully lower total harmonic distortion (THD), eliminate bridge arm circulating current, and improve power quality.

Given their technological, economic, and environmental advantages, the widespread adoption of renewable distributed generators (RDGs) in distribution systems (DSs) is becoming more prevalent. However, Solar photovoltaic distributed generators (PV-DGs) face the challenge of intermittent behavior, which results in power output fluctuations and increased grid uncertainty. Therefore, addressing these uncertainties is crucial when determining their optimal allocation. The proposed method considers uncertainties related to both load demand and solar irradiation. The model is formulated as a stochastic mixed-integer nonlinear optimization problem, which is solved using the whale optimization algorithm (WOA). The standard IEEE 33-bus system is used to validate the proposed approach, and demand variations are modeled based on the IEEE reliability test system (IEEE-RTS). The objective is to simultaneously minimize total expected voltage deviation, real power loss, and reactive power loss while increasing solar PV penetration. The technique for order of preference by similarity to the ideal solution (TOPSIS) is applied to select the best solution. Simulated results indicate significant improvements: a 19.39% reduction in voltage deviation, an 18.42% decrease in total real power loss, and an 18.53% reduction in reactive power loss compared to the base case. Additionally, the model accommodates a total of 3.206625 MW of solar PV power in the DS.

10.11591/ijpeds.v16.i2.pp817-826
Sachin Chavhan , Mahesh Kumbhar
In the field of electric vehicles (EV), the hunt for the appropriate choice of motor and its control technique would be a never-ending process. The brushless DC (BLDC) motors are deployed in electric vehicles on account of higher efficiency, long life, compact size, and higher torque capacity in comparison to other types of motors. The recent advancements in power electronics have assisted in the deployment of BLDC motors in electric vehicles. These applications demand a control mechanism for the motoring mode as well as the regenerative braking mode. During the motoring mode, the power delivered to the motor is controlled, and during the regenerative braking mode, the charging of the battery takes place. Speed control strategy during motoring mode is essential to guarantee the required performance. This paper presents a direct torque control (DTC) technique for BLDC motor control for electric vehicles. The control technique and drive setup are developed to cater to the motoring mode as well as regenerative braking operation as desired for electric vehicles. MATLAB simulation and results are discussed for both modes of operation. Also, the dynamic response of the system is analyzed, which shows an average 1.1 ms response time for a 100 RPM change in speed during speeding up and 0.76 ms response time while speeding down.

Moses Jeremiah Barasa Kabeyi , Joseph Akpan , Oludolapo Akanni Olanrewaju
Biogas produced from biomass is a renewable energy resource with high value potential to support sustainable development. This study presents abridged advances and pathways from biogas and biomethane to electricity with opportunities and challenges in generation, conversion, and storage needed for use in many areas like transportation, power generation and storage, building, and industrial heat production sectors. A high knock resistance, making it suitable for use in thermal systems with high compression rate, characterizes biogas combustion. Various prime movers using biogas as fuel can be used for electricity generation, including direct conversion through fuel cells, which is a significant pathway to sustainable energy storage. Biogas to electricity conversion by a generator set is much more practical today. Turbines, micro turbines, Stirling engines, diesel engines, and petrol engines are only some of the viable possibilities for converting biogas to electricity. Biomethane can be used as a substitute for natural gas in all its applications with little or no modifications to the fuel infrastructure. Finally, this study discusses biogas and biomethane’s limits and contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals 2, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, 13, 14, and 17.

Karima Et-Torabi , Souhail Barakat , Badr N’hili , Abdelouahed Mesbahi , Ayoub Nouaiti
This paper introduces an enhanced perturb and observe (P&O) technique with a variable step size utilizing fuzzy logic to address the limitations of the traditional P&O technique, particularly under rapidly fluctuating solar radiation conditions. The performance of the suggested variable step size FLC-P&O maximum power point tracking (MPPT) and the constant step size P&O techniques is simulated and evaluated under various operating scenarios using MATLAB/Simulink software. The suggested technique was successfully validated using a boost converter connected to a Canadian Solar CS6P-240P photovoltaic (PV) model. The results demonstrate that the FLC P&O technique improves response accuracy and reduces steady-state terminal voltage fluctuations. Moreover, the findings show that the suggested technique provides a faster response and higher MPPT efficiency compared to the traditional P&O technique, particularly during sudden variations in solar irradiance.

Photovoltaic systems (PVS) exhibit variability in their maximum power point (MPP) output due to variations in irradiance and cell temperature. This can lead to reduced efficiency, as maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithms often have slow response times and limited ability to adapt to rapidly changing environmental conditions. New algorithms are therefore needed to capture more energy and improve the efficiency of these systems. In this context, this article presents a new method for temperature parametric (TP) and its implementation using a digital PI controller, a buck converter, and MATLAB-Simulink. This innovative approach relies on detecting the MPP by continuously measuring the cell temperature of the PV panel (𝑇𝑐𝑒𝑙𝑙) and solar irradiance (S). A 3D linear regression model connects these two parameters with the maximum current (𝐼𝑚𝑝𝑝), enabling real-time monitoring of the MPP. We have applied this new method on two different types of PV (POLY-40W and BPSX330J) under a range of environmental conditions, including stable and dynamic scenarios. The results of the simulation demonstrate the superiority of our approach compared to the hill climbing (HC) for perturbation steps of HC (1%) and HC (2%). Our method achieves faster convergence time 0.009 s and high MPPT efficiency at 98.18%, fewer steady-state oscillations, and better detection.

The research examines how different dimensions of V-type permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) magnets influence the magnetic flux between the rotor and the stator system because matching these dimensions optimizes the magnetic flux for better torque production. As long as the magnet size stays within the right dimensions, it builds greater flux density, which leads to better torque output and better efficiency. Research confirms that flow barriers strengthen engine capabilities. The research applies parametric optimization to find the perfect magnet shapes while showing how they boost electric vehicle motors to meet their requirements. Our tests with finite element method (FEM) show how changing magnet dimensions affects performance. Researchers adjust magnetic measurements frequently until the optimal setup of 50 mm thick by 4.5 mm wide emerges. Their action boosts flux density, which improves motor torque and energy capacity. At these optimal dimensions, the engine achieved 95% efficiency with precise flow barrier adjustments that helped increase torque output while reducing unstable electricity output.
