10.11591/ijere.v13i6.30216
Nilton David Vilchez Galarza , Jose Francisco Via y Rada Vittes , Luis Angel Huaynate Espejo
The way of learning in higher education needs a revaluation, which should consider cooperation as one of the principles to improve the cognitive, procedural, and attitudinal learning of students whose training will allow them to integrate effectively into the work environment. The objective of the study was to validate the consistency of the collaborative learning scale (CLS) using the bifactor structural equation model (SEM) in university students from Junín. It presented a quantitative approach, through a deductive method, of demonstrative and inferential scope and a non-experimental design. The sample was of the probabilistic type, composed of 361 students of the Faculty of Health Sciences from cycles I to VIII at Huancayo University-2023. The results verified that the use of an original bifactor SEM allows the identification of multidimensional sources present in complex psychological measures, such as the evaluation instrument under study. In conclusion, thanks to the analysis of the Chi-square differences between the second-order model and the bifactor model, it can be verified that the bifactor model has a better fit than the second-order model because it has a lower X², a lower root mean square error of approximation (RMSEA), a lower weighted root mean residual (WRMR), and a higher ω.

Enhancing video anomaly detection for human suspicious behavior through deep hybrid temporal spatial network

10.11591/ijai.v13.i4.pp4121-4128
Kusuma Sriram , Kiran Purushotham
Abnormal behavior exhibited by individuals with particular intentions is common, and when such behavior occurs in public places, it can cause physical and mental harm to others. Considering the rise in the automated approach for anomaly detection in videos, accuracy becomes essential. Most existing models follow a deep learning architecture, which faces challenges due to variations in motion. This research work develops a deep learning based hybrid architecture with temporal and spatial features. The hybrid temporal spatial network (HTSNet) consists of two customized architectures: a graph neural network (GNN) and a convolutional neural network (CNN). HTSNet combined with a novel classifier to extract features and classify normal and abnormal behavior. The performance of HTSNet is rigorously evaluated using the University of California, San Diego-Pedestrian 1 (UCSD Ped1) dataset, a benchmark in computer vision research for anomaly detection in video surveillance. The effectiveness of HTSNet is demonstrated through a comparative analysis with current state-of-the-art methods, using the area under the curve (AUC) metric as a standard measure of performance. This paper contributes to the advancement of video surveillance technology, providing a robust framework for enhancing public safety and security in an increasingly digital world.

Despite the proliferation of the culture of accreditation in the country, accreditation evaluations fail to capture authentic student course experience. This study aimed to assess the students’ course experience as to how it can contribute to increasing their career personal efficacy when employed in the work field. The 70 respondents were the education graduates of the college of education of a certain university in the past 6 years. The hierarchical multiple regression (HMR) was used to determine which of these domains can explain a statistically significant amount of variance to the career personal efficacy of the respondents. Correlation analysis r and the analysis of variance (ANOVA) were also employed to determine the relationships of the domains of course experience to career personal efficacy. Results revealed a high correlation between the six domains of course experience and career personal efficacy with good teaching, and clear goals and standards as the best factors among the domains of course experience which can predict career personal efficacy. It is recommended that administrators and policymakers should look into these two domains of the course experience to plan for the development goals of colleges and universities.

10.11591/ijere.v13i6.29580
Nurul Isnaini Romadhon , Mohammad Faizal Amir , Mahardika Darmawan Kusuma Wardana
Mathematical reasoning (MR) in problem-solving is still relatively low, but students need it. Previous studies have shown that problem-based learning (PBL) can improve MR. Meanwhile, differences in MR are also influenced by gender. This study assesses MR quantitatively and qualitatively by reviewing gender differences when given PBL intervention. The research participants involved were fifth-grade primary students. The sampling techniques used were convenience and purposive sampling. This study design uses an explanatory sequential mixed method with quantitative data collection followed by qualitative data. Instruments like MR tests, interview guides, and questionnaires were used to collect data. Analysis techniques used for quantitative data are descriptive statistics, n-gain, and Wilcoxon signed-rank test, while qualitative data is thematic analysis. The study found that quantitatively, PBL significantly affects the MR of students with different gender perspectives. Meanwhile, qualitative findings in MR varied among students of different genders (masculine, feminine, and neutral) in the implication of PBL. Another finding is that students’ MR is inadequate in generalizing the statement. The study results provide comprehensive findings regarding the differences in MR of students with gender differences in the implications of PBL, which can contribute practical, theoretical, or methodological to teachers, practitioners, researchers, and scholarship.

The internet of things (IoT) has transformed the way appliances and devices are connected and especially in the case of smart homes, in which smart devices can communicate through networks to improve everyday activities. However, it might be difficult to provide a high level of security for the data produced by these devices. Current security mechanisms might not always function adequately in all circumstances, especially when the number of devices increases. This research proposes an edge IoT-based smart home authentication scheme that adopts IPv6. For devices that use a smartphone application, it also offers a passwordless user authentication approach through the use of the smartphone ID and biometrics. The proposed authentication scheme was simulated to verify its ease of use and security. Security and cost analysis was also performed by reviewing and comparing the proposed scheme with previous research on IoT authentication systems. This research finds that the proposed authentication scheme is efficient at shielding home IoT networks from possible attacks, as well as maintaining a high level of usability.

The objective of this paper is to detect tomato leaf disease using Faster region-based convolutional neural network (R-CNN). The tomato leaf disease recognition system utilizes a dataset consisting of healthy tomato leaves and eight leaf diseases, including early blight, late blight, leaf mold, mosaic virus, septoria, spider mites, yellow leaf curl virus, and leaf miner. The dataset is obtained from various sources, such as Kaggle, Google Images, Bing Images, and Roboflow Universe. Pre-processing techniques, including collage, tile, static crop, and resize, are applied to prepare the dataset for training. Data augmentation methods, such as flipping, 90° rotation, exposure adjustment, and hue modification, are applied to enhance the model’s robustness and generalize its performance. Specifically, we implemented Faster R-CNN as part of Detectron2 using its base models and configurations. The results demonstrate that the X101-FPN base model for Faster R-CNN with the default configurations of Detectron2 is efficient and general enough to be applied to defect detection. This approach results in an average precision (AP) detection score of 87.01% for validation results.

Detecting fraudulent financial statement under imbalanced data using neural network

10.11591/ijai.v13.i4.pp4106-4112
Hendra Tjahyadi , Yosua Efraim Young
In this paper a novel approach for detecting fraudulent financial statements by employing a combination of neural networks and synthetic minority over-sampling technique (SMOTE) is introduced. This approach is designed to tackle the problem of imbalanced datasets prevalent in fraudulent cases, which if left unaddressed will hinder the model to accurately identify fraud. Three neural network models, each representing different fraud predictors as the input layer: 28 inputs raw financial data; 14 inputs financial ratios data; and 42 inputs combination both raw financial and financial ratios data are developed. Experimental validation using established research datasets is conducted to assess the performance of the proposed method. Performance metrics, namely area under the curve (AUC), precision, and sensitivity, are used for evaluation, comparing the proposed model against existing benchmark models found in literature. Results indicate that the proposed model achieves an AUC score of 70.6% and a precision score of 2.89%, in comparable to the existing models, with a sensitivity score of 83% outperforming all counterparts. The high sensitivity rate of the proposed model underscores its practical utility for auditors and regulators, as it minimizes the risk of false negatives, thereby enhancing confidence in fraud detection.

Private universities in Jordan have witnessed a major shift in teaching methods and strategies, as e-learning techniques have become an integral part of the educational policies followed. Therefore, the study aimed to identify the effect of social studies teachers’ use of e-learning techniques in developing the perceived self-competencies of university students, depending on gender and field of specialization. To achieve this, the descriptive analytical method was used in conducting the study. The perceived self-efficacy test was applied to a sample of 292 university students who were randomly selected. The study found that e-learning techniques contributed to raising the level of perceived self-efficacy among males more than among females. It did not have a significant impact on its interaction with the student’s field of specialization. The results also indicate the importance of the role played by social studies teachers with technological educational techniques in improving the level of students’ self-efficacy. Moreover, social relations are among the most important factors contributing to building a conscious generation that preserves human dignity. Therefore, we must research the negatives of e learning to find out the reason behind the lack of improvement in the level of perceived self-efficacy among females.

The importance of plant identification has been recognized by academia and industry. There have been several attempts to utilize leaves and flowers for identification. However, the trunk can also be helpful, especially for tall trees. In Borneo, the Dipterocarpaceae family are the main constituents of the tropical rainforest ecosystem. This research focuses on the classification of the dipterocarp family, which can reach a height of between 70 and 85 m. Leveraging convolutional neural network (CNN) models, this research proposes a two-stage transfer learning strategy. In the first stage, the pre-trained CNN models are refined by only modifying the classification layer while keeping the feature layer frozen. The second stage involves selecting and freezing several convolutional layers to adapt the model to classify dipterocarp stems. The dataset consists of 857 images of different dipterocarp species. Experiments show that the VGG16 model with a two-stage transfer learning strategy achieves a high accuracy of 98.246%. This study aims to accurately identify species, benefiting conservation and ecological studies by enabling fast and reliable tree species classification based on stem texture images.

The rapid adoption of digital technologies in education highlights the importance of closing the digital divide in education. However, research on school connectivity policy regimes to bridge the digital divide in education in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) region is lacking. The authors conducted a systematic review of policies in Cambodia, Malaysia, Thailand, and the Philippines following a framework synthesis approach. Through desk research, data was identified based on a supply and demand side framework and included policy documents from relevant ministries and departments, reports by international development organizations and non-governmental organizations, and academic literature. The analysis reveals an imbalance between supply and demand-side policies and regulatory approaches with governments in the analyzed countries favoring demand side policies.

In the modern world, there is a conscious interest in improving education quality with the help of modern information technologies. Innovative m-learning technology expands the possibilities and increases the effectiveness of training. Experiments conducted in European countries showed that the use of mobile devices positively affected academic performance, discipline, and interpersonal relationships among participants in the educational process. However, currently, practical research only generally concerns the issue of increasing foreign student involvement in the educational process. The purpose of the study is to experiment and obtain new data confirming the effectiveness of mobile technologies in increasing foreign student involvement in the educational process. The developed mobile technology-based course was introduced into the educational system of the university. The program included traditional and practical classes. The study confirms the effectiveness of mobile learning technology. A statistical data analysis showed positive dynamics in the indicators of the experimental group. The final data of the experimental group differed significantly from the initial ones: the average indicator of 2.9 (average involvement level) increased to 4 (+1.1). Based on the developed course using mobile learning, it is possible to create and practically implement new educational programs for universities.
