Jayashree Kathirvel , Pushpa Sreenivasan , Soni Mohammed , Rabinarayan Sethi , Maganti Syamala
This work intends to improve estimates of solar and wind energy generation through the application of resilient backpropagation control and substantial power evolution strategy (SPES) algorithms. In comparison to particle swarm optimization and genetic algorithms, the main goal is to minimize predicting mistakes. These methods increase grid reliability by lowering total harmonic distortion (THD) and improving power quality when integrated with the IEEE-9 bus standard. In order to evaluate the hybrid system's transient and steady-state reactions, the study also highlights the importance of bolstering operation and control. A revolutionary deep learning-based approach is also suggested for predicting wind and solar hybrid energy. The power grid's efficiency and dependability in handling renewable energy sources have significantly improved, according to the results.

10.11591/ijai.v13.i4.pp4422-4434
Areen Arabiat , Mohammad Hassan , Omar Almomani
Traffic congestion leads to wasted time, pollution, and increased fuel consumption. Traffic congestion prediction has become a developing research topic in recent years, particularly in the field of machine learning (ML). The evaluation of various traffic parameters is used to predict traffic congestion by relying on historical data. In this study, we will predict traffic congestion in Amman City, specifically at the 8th circle, using different ML classifiers. The 8th circle links four main streets: Westbound, Northbound, Eastbound, and Southbound. Datasets were collected from the greater Amman municipality hourly. The logistic regression (LR), k-nearest neighbor (KNN), decision tree (DT), random forest (RF), support vector machine (SVM), and multi-layer perceptron (MLP) classifiers have been chosen to predict traffic congestion at each street linked with the 8th circle. The waikato environment for knowledge analysis (WEKA) data mining tool is used to evaluate chosen classifiers by determining accuracy, F-measure, sensitivity, and precision evaluation metrics. The results obtained from all experiments have demonstrated that SVM is the best classifier to predict traffic congestion. The accuracy of SVM to predict traffic congestion at Westbound Street, Northbound Street, Eastbound Street, and Southbound Street was 99.4%, 99.7%, 99.6%, and 99.1%, respectively.

Ranjeeta Mittal , Suresh Kumar , Urvashi Chugh
In this study, we introduce an advanced convolutional neural network (CNN) model tailored for house occupancy detection, designed to accommodate the inherent uncertainties and contradictory information often encountered in sensor data. By integrating neutrosophic layers into the CNN architecture, we enable the model to effectively handle indeterminacy, vagueness, and inconsistency present in real-world sensor readings. Our approach employs neutrosophic convolutional, max-pooling, and logic layers, providing a comprehensive framework for feature extraction and decision-making. Through a structured methodology encompassing data preprocessing, model initialization, training, evaluation, and optimization, we demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed model in accurately detecting occupancy status within residential environments. This enhanced CNN model offers improved accuracy, robustness, and interpretability, thereby facilitating its integration into smart home systems and building automation applications, contributing to enhanced efficiency, comfort, and energy savings.

10.11591/ijai.v13.i4.pp3827-3836
Swapna Chavva , Vijayashree R. Budyal
Energy efficiency is challenging task in wireless sensor network (WSN), it is the main barrier in extending network lifespan. In WSN, maximum energy is wasted during data gathering, hence energy efficient algorithms using artificial intelligence can be designed, that preserves energy while data gathering. Thus, our proposed methodology, A novel energy efficient data gathering algorithm using artificial intelligence for wireless sensor networks (NDGAI), uses novel artificial intelligence algorithms and addresses issue of energy consumption while gathering data. In our proposed work, mobile element is utilized to gather information from sensor nodes in the clusters, formed using amended-expectation-maximization. Each cluster should have a cluster leader and a virtual-point. These cluster leaders are formed utilizing fuzzy logic technique. Virtual-points are formed in the range of cluster leader, only when cluster leader has data. The mobile element reaches virtual point by taking the optimal path, that determined by the hybrid artificial intelligence algorithms, such as artificial-bee-colony (ABC) technique and particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithms. Thus, by properly performing clustering, cluster leader selection, virtual-point selection and optimal path determination, lead to improved network lifetime and energy saving while gathering the data. Results are simulated and compared with scalable gridbased data gathering algorithm for environmental monitoring wireless sensor networks (SGBDN) and proposed algorithm performs better.

Guiding high school students toward suitable educational paths is a complex challenge, particularly influenced by academic performance. In Morocco, first-year high school students in the scientific branch face a crucial decision when selecting between science mathematics (SM), physics (SF), and Science of Life and Earth (SVT) paths. This decision is critical as it can significantly impact their future academic and professional success. To address the issue of suboptimal student orientation, this study proposes an automated, personalized approach leveraging big data technology. By employing ensemble learning techniques, including random forest and neural network models, we developed a classification system to predict students’ optimal paths based on their academic performance. Our models achieved exceptional performance, with precision, accuracy, recall, and F-measure scores of approximately 98.59%, 98.60%, 98.60%, and 98.58%, respectively. This research demonstrates the potential of our approach to enhance educational support and decision-making, ultimately improving student outcomes and reducing dropout rates caused by wrong orientation.

Even though medical reports have been digitized, they are generally text data and have not been used optimally. Extracting information from these reports is challenging due to their high volume and unstructured nature. Analyzing the extraction of relevant and high-quality information can be achieved by measuring semantic textual similarity (STS). Consequently, the primary aim of this study is to develop and evaluate the performance of four models: Siamese Manhattan convolution neural network (CNN), Siamese Manhattan long short-term memory (LSTM), Siamese Manhattan hybrid CNN-LSTM, and Siamese Manhattan hybrid LSTM-CNN, in determining STS between sentence pairs in medical reports. Performance comparisons were conducted using Cosine Similarity and word mover's distance (WMD) methods. The results indicate that the Siamese Manhattan hybrid LSTM-CNN model outperforms the other models, with a similarity score of 1 for each sentence pair, signifying identical semantic meaning.

Artificial intelligence is the current trend in the world, which has taken the opportunity to advance in all its fields, particularly in scientific research. In materials engineering, the results obtained from classic methods such as experimentation, homogenization methods, or finite element methods have become input and validation elements for intelligent models to obtain more effective results in an optimal time frame. In this article, we discuss the use of artificial neural networks to determine the mechanical properties of biocomposites, which are the subject of much research due to the advantages they represent. The properties of these complex materials depend on various parameters, such as the behavior of the constituent materials, the percentage of the mixture, and the manufacturing process. In this work, our goal is to predict how polypropylene behaves elastically when reinforced with 15% various natural fillers. and we will study the impact of bamboo on polypropylene to test and validate our model. By exploiting the results of the Mori-Tanaka model, we were able to generate our dataset, with which we feed our feedforward backpropagation neural network and demonstrate that our biocomposite gained in terms of stiffness, marked by an increase in Young's modulus to 550.3 MPa, with better performance validation and a very good regression coefficient.

Driver inattention has emerged as a critical concern impacting road safety, resulting in an alarming surge in accidents and fatalities. This research introduces a novel system for detecting inattention, structured across six levels: perception, facial feature extraction, tracking driver face, and driver secondary task using pre-trained deep learning models, inattention detection, risk estimation, and alert. The system is based on image processing captured from two strategically positioned cameras that simultaneously capture the driver’s activities while driving and their facial expressions. The second contribution concerns the driver facial features extraction using multi-task cascaded convolutional networks (MTCNN), and it is comparison with the histogram of gradient (HOG)-based frontal face detector, and haar feature based cascade classifier. The algorithms were compared based on their runtime efficiency, robustness in handling varying lighting conditions, and various head movements. The MTCNN achieves high performance, reaching accuracy levels ranging from 96.4% to 99.5% on two datasets including realistic driving scenarios: the DrivFace dataset and, the driver drowsiness dataset. The comparative analysis sheds light on the strengths and weaknesses of each algorithm, providing valuable insights for selecting the most suitable face detection algorithm to use in our system.

This paper introduces an approach decentralized to fault detection and isolation (FDI) in manufacturing systems using a Boolean discrete event model. The method incorporates diverse information sources to create distinct models for plant systems and control. The objective is to enhance the understanding of process operations by employing various representation tools tailored to each information source. It is to reduce the number of explosion problems combinatorial and detect faults in the shortest possible time. This comprehensive representation facilitates the fulfillment of three crucial diagnosis functions: detection, localization, and identification. The approach involves Boolean modeling of each process actuator along with its corresponding sensors, a temporal model based on fuzzy expectations of event occurrences, and a set of if...then rules. The goal of this decentralized approach minimize both the complexity and the manual construction effort required for the model. The paper demonstrates the effectiveness of this approach through an illustrative example involving manufacturing systems.

An eight-switch nine-level modified ANPC inverter (8S-9L-MANPC) is designed and simulated in this paper. With this topology, only one DC voltage source and eight active semiconductor switches are required, significantly reducing system size, weight, and cost. The structure consists of a five-level ANPC inverter cascaded with a two-level leg converter. This arrangement extends the 5L-ANPC structure to a 9L configuration without requiring the use of additional capacitors. To maintain the balancing of the flying capacitor (FC), a modulation strategy using a switching state redundancy-based control method is employed. Recent 9L inverters incorporating flying capacitors and based on a hybrid structure have been compared with the proposed structure. By conducting this comparison, we can highlight the potential improvements offered by the proposed structure over the recent 9L inverters in terms of reduced component count, simplified design, and cost savings. The proposed 8S-9L-MANPC inverter is tested under various operating situations in MATLAB/Simulink simulation.

This paper introduces a novel method for controlling shunt active power filters (SAPFs) to improve network efficiency and reduce carbon emissions in the utility sector. It addresses the problem of current harmonics degrading system performance by employing reference current generation based on the least mean square (LMS) algorithm, it decomposes distorted current into fundamental active, fundamental reactive and harmonic components. Traditionally, LMS implementations suffer from poor dynamic response due to uniform learning rates. To overcome this, the method adjusts the learning rates for fundamental active and reactive components separately, improving dynamic response and reducing computational complexity. Extensive analysis validates the effectiveness of this approach under various conditions, demonstrating its superiority in enhancing system performance and reducing carbon emissions in electrical networks.

Many motorized vehicles use non-environmentally friendly fuels causing more pollution. To tackle this, electric vehicles with battery technology are becoming popular. Many electric cars use Li-ion battery packs. However, these battery packs can have differences between individual batteries, affecting their performance. When electric cars accelerate, the batteries can get imbalanced, which shortens their lifespan. To prevent this, a balancing circuit is needed to make sure each battery cell stays equal. To get the balancing current according to the needs of each battery cell and switching network components. As a result, this research creates a cell-to-cell active balancing using the quasi-resonant buck converter that can reduce ripple from zeta converter output. Fuzzy type-2-BEC adjusts the duty cycle zeta converter circuits. The output is set equal to the average cell voltage. Four pieces of Li-ion are connected in the series at 14.4 V/3 Ah. To test the balancers, two variations were used to determine the system's reliability. From the test result, variation one can balance all cells at the 60 s, and variation two can balance all cells at the 150 s.

This study investigates the relationships between Benin's climate and maize production to develop an association rule algorithm for accurate yield prediction. The datasets utilized extend 26 years (1995 to 2020) and include climate and maize yield data from five districts with synoptic weather stations in two agroclimatic zones (Sudanian and Sudano-Guinean). Climate variables were combined with yield using "year" and "districts" to find the association rules. Several techniques were used to determine the correlation between weather parameters and maize yields: support vector machines, K nearest neighbor, artificial neural networks, decision trees, and recurrent neural networks. The most performed method was the decision tree (R2=0.998, mean squared error (MSE)=0.021, and mean absolute error (MAE)=0.0008). This model is difficult to understand, though the frequent pattern growth technique was then applied to the dataset to facilitate the discovery of the rules. The Sudano-Guinean zone exhibits high maize yields for medium minimum and maximum temperature values, rainfall, evapotranspiration, and humidity. In the Sudanian zone, medium minimum and maximum temperatures and maximum humidity levels are associated with high maize yields. The discovered association rules showed that optimizing maize output might be done dependably and effectively.

This study presents a methodology for performance evaluation and loss analysis of two photovoltaic (PV) power plants in Vietnam with different geographical locations and climatic conditions. An experimental methodology is utilized to analyze the system losses. Data was collected from the BIM2 (250 MWp) and Buon Ma Thuot (35 MWp) plants. The results show that system losses do not exceed 1.3%, with performance rates ranging from 73-79% for BIM2 and 74-88% for Buon Ma Thuot. Correlation analysis between module operating temperature, solar irradiance, and energy yield reveals an inverse relationship between the temperature-irradiance ratio and energy yield. A considerable decline in power plant efficiency is observed when this ratio exceeds 8. Additionally, vital monitored indices for PV plant operation are investigated, including energy supplied to the grid, PV array temperature, ambient temperature, and loss metrics.

Development and evaluation of artificial intelligence based maximum power point tracking for photovoltaic systems across diverse weather conditions

10.11591/ijpeds.v15.i4.pp2443-2451
Penumala Poornima , Kannan Boopathy
An essential control mechanism for solar panels, maximum power point tracking (MPPT) constantly adjusts the operating point to maximize power extraction from changing environmental conditions, ensuring that the panels run at peak efficiency. To maximize energy yield, improve overall system performance, and add to the financial feasibility of solar installations, MPPT is crucial in today's energy landscape, which is increasingly focused on clean and renewable sources. In this study, we test four popular photovoltaic maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithms in different weather scenarios: perturb and observe (P&O), fuzzy logic, grey wolf optimizer (GWO), and horse herd optimization (HHO). Key parameters such as efficiency, responsiveness to partial shading, and adaptability to changing environmental conditions are analyzed using MATLAB models to evaluate each algorithm's performance in depth. The results show where each algorithm excels and where it falls short, and the research stands out by incorporating new features into the models. Our study seeks to provide valuable insights for the development of photovoltaic (PV) MPPT algorithms, guiding future research and applications in the ever-changing field of renewable energy systems. We will focus on making these algorithms more flexible in dynamic environments and resilient in partial shading situations.
