Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a substantial imaging procedure for diagnosing brain tumors. However, brain tumor classification continues challenging due to the unequal distribution of classes within datasets, complicating precise diagnosis and classification. This research focuses on the class imbalance in medical image datasets by proposing a hybrid bio-inspired algorithm for brain tumor classification. A rider optimization and particle rider mutual information-based dendritic-squirrel search algorithm combined with an artificial immune classifier is developed and tested on imbalanced datasets generated from BRATS and SimBRATS. Experimental outcomes are encouraging, For the imbalanced BRATS dataset, the rider optimization- based classifier achieved an accuracy of 94.84%, sensitivity of 92.96%, and specificity of 94.95%. The particle rider mutual information-based classifier outperformed others with 96.25% accuracy, 94.33% sensitivity, and 94.85% specificity. For the imbalanced SimBRATS dataset, the rider optimization-based classifier achieved 94.95% accuracy, 92.05% sensitivity, and 94.04% specificity. The particle rider mutual information-based classifier excelled with 96.35% accuracy, 94.42% sensitivity, and 95.44% specificity. These findings suggest that the proposed algorithm effectively addresses class imbalance in medical image datasets, offering a robust solution for brain tumor classification. The particle rider mutual information-based classifier shows promise for enhancing diagnostic accuracy in clinical settings, demonstrating the efficacy of hybridized bio-inspired algorithms in managing imbalanced datasets.

One of the factors that influence shrimp cultivation is the presence of algae. Precise knowing algae content in the pond is essential for effective management. Most research in the field of algae species carried out by researchers were observing Chlorella Sp. more than the other algae species, with a particular emphasis on substance concentrations. This study proposed non-invasive techniques for quantifying algae abundance, utilizing optical density (OD) and image processing (IP) methods. Three different algae species are frequently found in Indonesia i.e., Chlorella Sp., Thalassiosira Sp., and Skeletonema Sp. are used as sample. Those samples are cultured and prepared in a certain volume with a certain quantity. For experimental and observation purposes, those samples are then diluted into water based on percentage value. The experimental results provided RGB values, which were then used to establish polynomial equations. To verify these equations, two approaches were employed: synthetic image analysis and evaluation using additional data. The mean average error (MAE) was found to be 3.467 for IP method and 3.513 for OD method. It shows that IP method give better result compared to OD method in this study. However, it is very possible that the two methods will complement each other.

High-voltage DC generation is essential for industrial, medical, and scientific applications, such as X-ray machines, particle accelerators, and electrostatic precipitators. Existing high-voltage DC generators face challenges such as high cost, complexity, and inefficiency. A simplified and cost-effective solution that can reliably generate high-voltage DC from a low DC power supply is needed. This paper discusses the design and implementation of a high-voltage DC generator with a low-voltage DC power supply input. The generator employs a push-pull inverter to transform the DC 12 V voltage into AC 400 V at a frequency of 20 kHz. A Cockcroft-Walton circuit, comprising a positive and a negative Cockcroft-Walton circuit, then steps up this voltage. The Arduino Nano microcontroller uses pulse width modulation (PWM) signals to control the system. This research aims to provide a reliable and economical high-voltage DC voltage generation system for various applications. We discuss the design process and hardware implementation in detail. We set the target output voltage of this hardware at 10 kV DC. MATLAB/Simulink simulation software verifies the performance of the proposed high-voltage generator, and hardware implementation validates its effectiveness. The proposed high-voltage DC generator's hardware tests successfully produced an output voltage of 14.12 kV DC.

Conventionally, only the standalone operation of a single-phase fault tolerant-based 5-level neutral point clamped (SPFT-5L-NPC) inverter with two stiff DC sources has been explained with consideration of phase disposition pulse width modulation (PD-PWM) technique. In this topology, the bidirectional switch arrangement consists of four diodes and one IGBT switch. This arrangement inherently increases conduction losses of topology. Generally, any NPC inverter topology suffers from a DC-link capacitor voltage (DCL-CV) balancing issue. In the conventional contribution of work, authors have not discussed the front-end voltage balancing issue. This study describes the extension work of a single-phase grid connection with a modified 5L-NPC (M5L-NPC) inverter topology, taking into account the aforementioned concerns. In this topology, the simple front-end chopper circuit has been utilized to balance the DCL-CVs and to reduce conduction losses, another arrangement of bidirectional switch has been utilized. In this paper, both standalone and grid connections of M5L-NPC topology have been explained along with control of DCL-CVs. The grid-connected important objectives of active power control (APC), reactive power control (RPC), and injecting sinusoidal current with low harmonic distortion have been discussed thoroughly considering a simple control strategy.

In this paper, we designed, analyzed, and simulated a 32-element antenna array for the sub-6 GHz band. Each radiating element is a square patch on a Rogers RT5880 substrate, featuring a relative dielectric permittivity of 2.2, a low-loss tangent of 0.0009, and a thickness of 0.508 mm, measuring 28.1×28.1 mm². Simulations were conducted using two electromagnetic solvers, advanced design system (ADS) and CST Microwave Studio, providing a comprehensive comparison of the results. To achieve a high balance between performance and antenna size, two 4×8 array antenna structures were designed. The simulations demonstrated excellent input impedance matching around 3.5 GHz for both configurations, with high gains of 20.5 dBi for the first and 18 dBi for the second configuration, along with directional radiation patterns. The dimensions were 315×576×0.578 mm³ for the first configuration and 170×961×0.578 mm³ for the second. These performance metrics make the proposed antenna arrays highly suitable for wireless communication technologies operating below 6 GHz, particularly for 5G mobile communications.

The demand for energy on a global scale is continuously rising due to the expansion of energy infrastructure and the increasing number of new appliances. To address this growing need, an efficient energy management system (EMS) has become indispensable. By implementing EMS, both residential and commercial buildings can significantly improve their energy efficiency and consumption. One crucial aspect of enabling EMS to operate efficiently is load forecasting. The accuracy of load forecasting depends on numerous factors. A reliable load forecast model should consider the region’s weather forecast, as it plays a crucial role in developing an accurate prediction. This study is about the medium-term load forecasting (MTLF) for the Province of Taroudant, Morocco, using historical monthly load and weather data for five years (2018 to 2022). To forecast consumed energy three methods are used namely artificial neural network (ANN), fuzzy logic (FL) and adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS). This paper selects absolute percentage error (APE), mean absolute percentage error (MAPE), correlation coefficient (R) and root mean square error (RMSE) to compare and evaluate the prediction accuracy of models. It has been observed through results analysis that the ANFIS model produces very accurate forecasting prediction with MAPE of 4.75% while ANN and FL models give respectively MAPE of 7.36% and 8.42%.

Study of roundwood sorting on the simulation model of longitudinal chain conveyor

10.11591/ijpeds.v15.i4.pp2068-2079
Nurbanu Sarbassova , Anara Umurzakova , Sergey Kladiev
When sorting roundwood on chain longitudinal conveyors of considerable length, there is an error in moving the selected roundwood assortment to the place of discharge into the accumulator, which increases in proportion to the length of the sorting line. Currently, conveyors of limited length are used. The accumulators are located on both sides of the conveyor. This reduces the transportation error. Sometimes the sorting yard does not allow placing a short conveyor on it or there is a considerable amount of assortments. In this case, it is necessary to use a conveyor of considerable length. The paper proposes a new method of sorting roundwood on longitudinal chain conveyors of considerable length. This reduces the tracking error of the assortment movement. Angular displacement sensors of the leading and driven sprockets of the closed plate chain of the sorting conveyor are used as sensors of angular displacements. The shafts of both sensors are mechanically connected to the shafts of the driving and driven sprockets, respectively. The results of simulation modeling of the sorting control system with complex mechanical system confirmed the possibility of practical application of the proposed method to reduce the tracking error of the sorted cargo. The results of the study confirm the possibility of practical application of the device for operation on longitudinal conveyors.

Hung Pham Quoc , Son Dao Anh , Tung Pham Anh
Describe the prevalence of and factors associated with self-reported worry and actions of Vietnamese citizens during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021. A secondary data analysis was implemented using a cross-sectional survey conducted in 2021 among 447 adults living in Hanoi City from July to December 2021 and Ho Chi Minh City from May to October 2021. The hidden layers assessment results retained the 3-class model as the best-fitting one in the study. In this model, 28.4% of participants were in Class 2 - "Low Self-reported Worry and Moderate Action" group, 45.9% of the participants were classified into Class 1-"Moderate Self-reported Worry and Low Action" group, and 25.7% in Class 3 - "High Self-reported Worry and High Action" group. The multinomial logistics model showed that worrying about losing the house because of COVID-19 makes the expected participation risk of staying in latent class 1 lower for subjects high in latent class 3 (p<0.05). Our study identified the latent classes of self-protection action and awareness among Vietnamese citizens. The associated factor that impacted the classes was the fear of losing a house.

This paper deals with the design of a proportional–integral (PI) controller for controlling the angle of attack of flight control system. For the first time teaching learning-based optimization (TLBO) algorithm is applied in this area to obtain the parameters of the proposed PI controller. The design problem is formulated as an optimization problem and TLBO is employed to optimize the parameters of the PI controller. The superiority of proposed approach is demonstrated by comparing the results with that of the conventional methods like genetic algorithm (GA) and particle swarm optimization (PSO). It is observed that TLBO optimized PI controller gives better dynamic performance in terms of settling time, overshoot, and undershoot as compared to GA and PSO based PI controllers. The various performance indices like mean square error (MSE), integral absolute error (IAE), and integral time absolute error (ITAE) are improved by using the TLBO soft computing techniques. Further, robustness of the system is studied by varying all the system parameters from −50% to +50% in step of 25%. Analysis also reveals that TLBO optimized PI controller gains are quite robust and need not be reset for wide variation in system parameters.

Time and wavelength diversity schemes for transdermal optical wireless links

10.11591/ijece.v14i6.pp6423-6432
Rawan Almajdoubah , Omar Hasan
Transdermal optical wireless communication systems have gained significant research and commercial attention in recent years. While using the skin as a transmission medium, the performance of such a system is influenced by the transdermal channel conditions between the transmitter and receiver. Indeed, for transdermal optical channel links, the performance of a linked communication system can be significantly affected by skin- induced attenuation and pointing errors. Extra attention has been given to diversity techniques to anticipate this. This research examines a conventional transdermal optical wireless system by analyzing the outage probability, an important performance parameter that has not been previously evaluated for such systems using the same method. In an examination of outage probability, both skin-induced attenuation and stochastic spatial jitter, also referred to as pointing error effects, are included. The usefulness of this topic is demonstrated using analytical formulas and results that determine the probability of system outage under various skin channel conditions and varying levels of stochastic pointing faults. Simulation model using Monte- Carlo simulation method was conducted using MATLAB to validate our suggestions. The simulation results showed a good agreement with numerical results, which proved the effectiveness of using wavelength and time diversity schemes to enhance transdermal optical wireless based systems.

Ghrissi Tahri , Fatima Tahri , Ali Tahri
This paper aims to present and analyze the fractional order proportional-integral-derivative (FOPID) control technique of the DC-DC two-level boost converter. The state-space averaged (SSA) method is used to build a small-signal converter mathematical model, which is a crucial task for the control design. A FOPID controller based on the Nelder-Mead optimization algorithm and an artificial intelligence strategy based on a fuzzy logic controller (FLC) are both designed for the voltage mode control (VMC) approach and operate on the continuous conduction mode (CCM). Various step changes in the input voltage amplitude and output load are applied to analyze the performance of the proposed control techniques. In addition, detailed simulation results using the MATLAB-Simulink system are extensively discussed.

SVPWM technique for 3-ph 6-switch and 3-ph 4-switch inverters - a comparison

10.11591/ijpeds.v15.i4.pp2334-2343
Golkonda Anitha , Kondreddi Krishnaveni , Guduri Yesuratnam
A novel 3-ph 4-switch inverter (TPFSI) is described in this study to reduce the inverter's size, complexity, cost, and losses during the conduction and switching process. This TPFS inverter is based on the principle of similarity of a 3-ph 6-switch inverter (TPSSI) where αβ plane is separated into six sectors to form the required reference voltage space vector. It has been demonstrated that TPFS inverters are more efficient than TPSS inverters while operating with different loads. A mathematical concept for the space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) technique has been developed for TPFSI by using Clarke's transformation. In this paper, a TPFS inverter model is designed to reduce the harmonic content in the output voltage and current responses when connected to different loads. The suggested modulation method enhances the output voltage/current response, resulting in usually balanced waveforms and reduced harmonic distortion. MATLAB/Simulink software is utilized to analyze the output response of both inverters.
