Gender of transformational school principals and teachers’ innovative behavior

The purpose of this paper is to examine the different levels of transformational leadership between male and female principals and their relationships with teachers' Innovative Work Behavior (IWB) in Malaysian secondary schools. In total, 477 teachers from various secondary schools were randomly selected as respondents (218 are working under female principals, while 259 of them are under male principals). This study revealed that the respondents agree that male principals practice transformational leadership higher than female principals. However, the female principals were highly influential on the teachers’ IWB compared to their male counterparts. This study provides a glimpse of the teachers' innovative behavior improvement resulted from transformational leadership by male and female school principals.

Game addiction among adolescents and its’ health impacts

Online gaming is a self-entertaining activity and can be addictive. Game addiction has a negative impact. This study aimed to determine the health belief model of adolescent game disorders on health impacts. This study used a qualitative phenomenology method. Data obtained through semi-structured interviews. The sample consisted of six participants. The results showed thatall participants felt vulnerable to disease, then overall realized the dangers of playing games such as staying up late, delaying eating, and delaying urinating. Then all participants learn about the benefits of reducing playtime and understand the importance of rest. Overall, all participants had the same obstacles, namely the invitation to make friends, boredom, free time, fun playing games, and not control themselves and the trend of electronic sports. Then an action stimulus was obtained, namely that all participants experienced changes in sleep patterns. All participants were sure and wanted to change their habits and continue to try, but it wasn't easy. Suggestions for participants to maintain health by limiting their playing hours to at least one hour a day to meet their physical needs.

The spirituality and spiritual care of clinical nurses in Indonesia

This study aimed to investigate associated factors of spirituality and spiritual care in clinical nurses in Indonesia. Cross-sectional descriptive and correlational research designs were used in this study. Purposive sampling was applied among 204 participants in private hospitals, Medan and Bandung, Indonesia. The questionnaires consisted of demographic and characteristics information and the spirituality and spiritual care rating scale (SSCRS). Mann Whitney test was used to investigate associated factors of spirituality and spiritual care in clinical nurses in Indonesia. This study found that there was statistically significant between department with spirituality (p=0.017), receiving spiritual care lessons during nurse training with spiritual care (p=0.032), and receiving spiritual care lessons during nurse training (p=0.013) and educational background with nurses’ perception of spirituality and spiritual care (p=0.040). Receiving spiritual care lessons during nurse training, and educational background were statistically significant with spirituality and spiritual care in clinical nurses in Indonesia. The findings of this study provide information for clinical nurses and generally of nurses to understand the perception of spirituality and spiritual care in hospital for care patient in a hospital in Indonesia. It is also suggested that appropriate strategies to improve knowledge and perception of spirituality and spiritual care should be developed shortly.

Recognition of mango leaf disease using convolutional neural network models: a transfer learning approach

The acknowledgment of plant diseases assumes an indispensable part in taking infectious prevention measures to improve the quality and amount of harvest yield. Mechanization of plant diseases is a lot advantageous as it decreases the checking work in an enormous cultivated area where mango is planted to a huge extend. Leaves being the food hotspot for plants, the early and precise recognition of leaf diseases is significant. This work focused on grouping and distinguishing the diseases of mango leaves through the process of CNN. DenseNet201, InceptionResNetV2, InceptionV3, ResNet50, ResNet152V2, and Xception all these models of CNN with transfer learning techniques are used here for getting better accuracy from the targeted data set. Image acquisition, image segmentation, and features extraction are the steps involved in disease detection. Different kinds of leaf diseases which are considered as the class for this work such as anthracnose, gall machi, powdery mildew, red rust are used in the dataset consisting of 1500 images of diseased and also healthy mango leaves image data another class is also added in the dataset. We have also evaluated the overall performance matrices and found that the DenseNet201 outperforms by obtaining the highest accuracy as 98.00% than other models.

Family planning instructor’s performance in the toddler family development program

Family planning instructors are vital in implementing the toddler family development program considering their function. This article aims: i) Analyze the performance of family planning instructors in the implementation of the toddler family development program/bina keluarga balita (BKB); ii) Analyse the factors supporting and inhibiting the effectiveness of the performance of family planning instructors in the community. This research used quantitative methods through survey instruments with a population of all family planning instructors which implementing toddler family development program. The pandemic situation has made the data collection process carried out by online questionnaires with Google Forms application. In order to obtain the required data, data collection was carried out through a questionnaire with a sample of 84 respondents. Data analysis was performed through descriptive statistical analysis using MS.Excel and SPSS. The data analysis concluded that the performance of family planning instructors in managing the program is in the good category. In the process approach, effectiveness is shown from the fulfillment of these performance variables in the implementation of the program, so that by looking at the categories in the cumulative analysis that are in the good category.

Review of protection aspects of microgrid devices

A microgrid is required to provide reliable, quality and efficient supply of both electricity and heat demands to its customers when operates either in autonomous or in grid-connected modes. In this context, it is most important to address a comprehensive protection scheme of the microgrid suiting both the modes of operations. This paper concentrates on the impacts of various devices, like distributed energy resources (DERs), transformers, switches, microgrid topology, communication type, grounding type, to name a few, on the microgrid protection systems. The paper reviewes previous works for the various aspects, like characteristics, construction, of these devices in the light of protection. This review-work is useful for future research in the field of microgrid protection as well as in the selection of its devices.

Textbooks based on local wisdom to improve reading and writing skills of elementary school students

Many elementary students still find it difficult to understand the literature content used and it automatically affects their reading and writing skills. However, the adjustment of literature with local wisdom-based content needs to be considered as a supporting tool. This study aimed to improve reading and writing skills using textbook based on local wisdom. The sample was grade 4 of elementary school students who selected using purposive random sampling. This research used a nonequivalent control group design through the experiment and control classes. Data were collected through writing and reading skills test of 32 students in each class and analyzed using N-gain to describe the treatment effect. The results showed that textbooks based on local wisdom were more effective than teaching materials that were not integrated by local wisdom at improving students' reading and writing skills. In the future, this study is a reference for teachers to apply local wisdom to other learning themes.

Big transfer learning for automated skin cancer classification

Skin cancer is an example of the most dangerous disease. Early diagnosis of skin cancer can save many people’s lives. Manual classification methods are time-consuming and costly. Deep learning has been proposed for the automated classification of skin cancer. Although deep learning showed impressive performance in several medical imaging tasks, it requires a big number of images to achieve a good performance. The skin cancer classification task suffers from providing deep learning with sufficient data due to the expensive annotation process and required experts. One of the most used solutions is transfer learning of pre-trained models of the ImageNet dataset. However, the learned features of pre-trained models are different from skin cancer image features. To end this, we introduce a novel approach of transfer learning by training the pre-trained models of the ImageNet (VGG, GoogleNet, and ResNet50) on a large number of unlabelled skin cancer images, first. We then train them on a small number of labeled skin images. Our experimental results proved that the proposed method is efficient by achieving an accuracy of 84% with ResNet50 when directly trained with a small number of labeled skin and 93.7% when trained with the proposed approach.

Work readiness during COVID-19 among taxibike online drivers in Samarinda, Indonesia

COVID-19 caused a pandemic around the world, including in Indonesia. This greatly affected the informal business sector, such as online taxibike drivers. The success of this program to control the spread of COVID-19 is greatly influenced by knowledge, attitudes, and actions in the community. The purpose of this study was to identify behavioral factors during the pandemic. An online survey was conducted with 100 online taxibike drivers using a structured questionnaire and Google Forms. Data were analyzed using the Spearman rank test with CI of 95%. Although most online taxibike drivers have sufficient knowledge about COVID-19, some drivers had important misconceptions about COVID-19, namely that COVID-19 is not contagious, weak immune resistance may cause them to contract COVID-19, and it is highly unlikely that they will contract COVID-19 when leaving the house without wearing a mask, and believing that handwashing with soap and using hand sanitizer will not prevent COVID-19. To address these misconceptions, interventions should be targeted to online taxibike drivers to increase their health education and literacy regarding the urgency of preventing COVID-19. It is also important to consider incorporating both interpersonal approaches and conventional and digital-based groups when encouraging changes in their attitudes and practices towards COVID-19.

CLG clustering for dropout prediction using log-data clustering method

Implementation of data mining, machine learning, and statistical data from educational department commonly known as educational data mining. Most of school systems require a teacher to teach a number of students at one time. Exam are regularly being use as a method to measure student’s achievement, which is difficult to understand because examination cannot be done easily. The other hand, programming classes makes source code editing and UNIX commands able to easily detect and store automatically as log-data. Hence, rather that estimating the performance of those student based on this log-data, this study being more focused on detecting them who experienced a difficulty or unable to take programming classes. We propose CLG clustering methods that can predict a risk of being dropped out from school using cluster data for outlier detection.

Wizer.me and Socrative as innovative teaching method tools: Integrating TPACK and Social Learning Theory

The purpose of this paper is to share a lecturer’s viewpoint on using Wizer.me and Socrative applications as an innovative teaching method integrating TPACK and Social Learning Theory (SLT) at higher education. The applications were used to teach 44 undergraduate students who registered for Cross-Cultural Management course at Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM). At first, the lecturer used Wizer.me before the class starts and requesting the students to answer several questions before coming to the class. After completing each chapter, the students requested to answer some questions using Socrative application to test their understanding level. The research revealed that at the beginning of the semester, the students not aware of these two applications. However, at the end of the semester, every student familiar with these applications and overall provided positive feedback on the usage of Wizer.me and Socrative application in the teaching and learning process. This study used IntenCheck sentiment analysis software to evaluate the students’ feedback. Student’s opinion on using Wizer.me and Socrative application as an innovative teaching method not explored before at UUM. Therefore, this viewpoint could provide useful insight for university lecturers to use these applications in their teaching and learning process.

Machine learning deployment for arms dynamics pattern recognition in Southeast Asia region

Finding the most significant determinant variable of arms dynamic is highly required due to strategic policies formulations and power mapping for academics and policy makers. Machine learning is still new or underdiscussed among the study of politics and international relations. Existing literature have much focus on using advanced quantitative methods by applying various types of regression analysis. This study analyzed the arms dynamic in Southeast Asia countries along with its some strategic partners such as United States, China, Russia, South Korea, and Japan by using ‘Decision Tree’ of machine learning algorithm. This study conducted a machine learning analysis on 55 variable items which is classified into 8 classes of variables videlicet defense budget, arms trade exports, arms trade imports, political posture, economic posture, security posture and defense priority, national capability, and direct contact,. The results suggest three findings: (1) state who perceives maritime as strategic drivers and forces will seek more power for its maritime defense posture which is translated to defense budget, (2) big size countries tend to be an arms exporter country, and (3) state’s energy dependence often leads to a higher volume of arms transfers between countries.

A two-phase plagiarism detection system based on multi-layer long short-term memory networks

Finding plagiarism strings between two given documents are the main task of the plagiarism detection problem. Traditional approaches based on string matching are not very useful in cases of similar semantic plagiarism. Deep learning approaches solve this problem by measuring the semantic similarity between pairs of sentences. However, these approaches still face the following challenging points. First, it is impossible to solve cases where only part of a sentence belongs to a plagiarism passage. Second, measuring the sentential similarity without considering the context of surrounding sentences leads to decreasing in accuracy. To solve the above problems, this paper proposes a two-phase plagiarism detection system based on multi-layer long short-term memory network model and feature extraction technique: (i) a passage-phase to recognize plagiarism passages, and (ii) a word-phase to determine the exact plagiarism strings. Our experiment results on PAN 2014 corpus reached 94.26% F-measure, higher than existing research in this field.

EFL university teachers’ perspectives in written corrective feedback and their actual applications

This study aimed to investigate the English as a foreign language (EFL) university teachers’ perspective and their actual applications in providing written corrective feedback to the writing errors made by the EFL university students and their correlation. The study was based on 80 responses of a Google-Form survey distributed to EFL university teachers with various teaching experiences from the most parts of Indonesia. Correlational design was used in this research. Descriptive statistics and Pearson’s correlation tests were used to analyze data. The results indicated that the majority of teachers had perspectives that it is valuable to provide and vary the strategies of written corrective feedback. In addition, the teachers mostly applied both direct and indirect feedback in various strategies and they only sometimes provided corrections in all aspects of errors and reformulation. It was also found out that the Indonesian EFL university teachers’ perspectives in the written corrective on students’ writing errors highly correlated with their actual applications. The results of the study provide both theoretical and pedagogical implications. Theoretically, it enriches the body knowledge of feedback and EFL writing. Pedagogically, EFL teachers are also suggested to improve their knowledge on various feedback techniques and apply it in their classroom teaching and learning process.

Evaluation of different quantization resolution levels on the BER performance of massive MIMO systems under different operating scenarios

The massive MIMO system is one of the main technologies in the fifth generation (5G) of telecommunication systems, also recognized as a highly large-scale system. Constantly in massive MIMO systems, the base station (BS) is provided with a large number of antennas, and this large number of antennas need high-quantization resolution levels analog-to-digital converters (ADCs). In this situation, there will be more power consumption and hardware costs. This paper presents the simulation performance of a suggested method to investigate and analyze the effects of different quantization resolution levels of ADCs on the bit error rate (BER) performance of massive MIMO system under different operating scenarios using MATLAB software. The results show that the SNR exceeds 12 dB accounts for only 0.001% of BER signals when the number of antennas 60 with low quantization a 2 bits’ levels ADCs, approximately. But when the antenna number rises to 300, the SNR exceeds 12 dB accounts for almost 0.01% of BER transmitted signals. Comparably with the BER performance of high quantization, 4 bits-quantization resolution levels ADCs with the same different antennas have a slight degradation. Therefore, the number of antennas is a very important influence factor.
