A Novel Design of Aircraft Fuel Tank Inspection Robot

https://ijeecs.iaescore.com/index.php/IJEECS/article/view/2411
Guochen Niu , Zunchao Zheng , Qingji Gao , Weijuan Wang , Lei Wang
Aircraft fuel tank leakage is a very common maintenance problem. A continuum robot is designed for troubleshooting of leaks for fuel tank which has strong constraints and is also explosive. The biomimetic robot with several flexible sections applies actuation redundancy through pulling its four independent driving cables to realize bending motion of two degrees of freedom (DOF). The forward kinematics about the relations of cables lengths, angles and tip coordinates of single section is established using projection curvature method and coordinates transformation method. The decoupled multi-section kinematics function is deduced based on the kinematics analysis of single section. Simulations of single section motion are presented. We demonstrate finally the correctness of kinematics method through prototype experiments. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i7.2814

RBF Neural Networks Optimization Algorithm and Application on Tax Forecasting

https://ijeecs.iaescore.com/index.php/IJEECS/article/view/2386
YU Zhijun
Accurate tax revenue forecasting has become a most important management goal, however, tax revenue often presents nonlinear data patterns. Therefore, a rigid forecasting approach with strong general nonlinear mapping capabilities is essential. The genetic algorithm has been used to select the parameters automatically for support vector machine. Then a RBF neural network has been built based on support vector machine and genetic algorithm, which helps to form a forecasting model system of RBF neural network optimization algorithms. As a result, this algorithm can avoid not only the shortcomings of traditional algorithm which is easy to get local minimal value, but also a large number of experiments or experiences which are needed to pre-specify network structure. Case study on Chinese tax revenue during the last 30 years demonstrates that the network based on this algorithm is much more accurate than other prediction methods. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i7.2199

Droplets Fusion in a Microchannel on a Piezoelectric Substrate

https://ijeecs.iaescore.com/index.php/IJEECS/article/view/2422
Fu Xiang-ting , Zha Yan , Zhang An-liang
Fusion droplets is a key operation in a microfluidic device for microfluidic analysis. A new fusion method for droplets was presented. An interditigal transducer and a reflector were fabricated on 1280-yx LiNbO3 piezoelectric substrate using microelectric technology. A poly-dimethyl silicone micro-channel was made by soft lithography technology and mounted on the piezoelectric substrate. Droplets in the microchannel were actuated by surface acoustic wave and fussed each other. Coloured dye solution droplets were used to fusion experiments. Results show that the two droplets in the microchannel can be fused by help of surface acoustic wave, and size of droplets, distance of droplets and RF signal power can affect successful fusion of the droplets. The fusion method is valuable for microlfuidic biological and chemical analysis in a microfluidic device. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i7.2826

Crawling Microblog by Common-Designed Software

https://ijeecs.iaescore.com/index.php/IJEECS/article/view/2403
Gang Lu , Shumei Liu , Kevin Lü
A mount of data of microblogs is needed to be crawled for research, business analyzing, and so on. However, a lot of dynamic Web techniques are used in microblog Web pages. That makes it hard to crawl data by parsing the contents of Web pages for traditional Web page crawlers. Fortunately, microblogs provide APIs. Well-structured data can be returned to users simply by accessing those APIs in form of URLs. Basing on that mechanism, researchers have obtained some data from microblogs to research. Nevertheless, no common software for crawling microblog has been published up to now. Everyone has to start designing a microblog crawler from very beginning. A common software architecture based on microblog APIs for microblog crawler is proposed in this paper, which is named as MBCrawler. Its structure, architecture, and key classes are introduced. It can be seen that MBCrawler is modular and scalable. By implementing a real microblog crawler for Sina Weibo, it is shown that MBCrawler can fit specific features of different microblogs. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i7.2805

Adaptive Neural Network Generalized Predictive Control for Unknown Nonlinear System

https://ijeecs.iaescore.com/index.php/IJEECS/article/view/2402
Lin Niu , Junsheng Li
This paper presents an adaptive neural control design for a class of unknown nonlinear systems. Novel state variables and the corresponding transform are introduced, such that the state-feedback control of a pure-feedback system can be viewed as the output-feedback control of a canonical system. An adaptive predictor incorporated with a neural network observer is proposed to obtain the future system states predictions, which are used in the control design to circumvent the input delay and nonlinearities. The proposed predictor, observer and controller are all online implemented, and the closed-loop system stability is guaranteed. The conventional backstepping design and analysis for pure-feedback systems are avoided, which renders the developed scheme simpler in its synthesis and application. Practical guidelines on the control implementation and the parameter design are provided. The applicability in nonlinear system is demonstrated by simulation experiments. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i7.2804

Lou Jianan , Li Yang , Xiefang Fang , Yujian Hua
In order to solve the problem that taking network reconfiguration when the circuit is partial failure leads to a waste of computing resources and long repair time, the article proposes a way to limite the failure influence in a local scope through adaptively regulating the immune network . On the basis reviewing of immune network theory, a immune network structured representation method is raised. In order to make the immune network have fault tolerant ability, adaptively adjusting the structure of the immune network can dynamically chang the immune network function. Lastly, a partial failure recovery experiment of the motor control circuits is applied to test the performance of immune network adaptive regulation. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i7.2858

Study on an Energy-aware Routing Algorithm for Agriculture WSN

https://ijeecs.iaescore.com/index.php/IJEECS/article/view/2397
Huarui Wu , Chunjiang Zhao , Li Zhu
As precision farming requires real-time, accurate and sustainable monitoring of the biotope of the field, energy consumption and network delay constitute the major factors affecting the performance of ZigBee-based Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) applied in agricultural production. Based on the AODVjr algorithm, this paper presents a new algorithm, namely NS-AODVjr. Featuring emphasis on energy control and dynamic routing, as well as balance between energy consumption and shortest path routing, this algorithm realizes maximum service time of the WSN while ensuring timely and effective transmission of the data in the monitoring process. After a simulation experiment with the Network Simulator tool, results show that, compared to the original algorithm, although the packet delivery rate and network delay witness no improvement, the new algorithm not only significantly reduces the device energy consumption, but also effectively expand the service time of the network. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i7.2799

Precise Clock Synchronization Algorithm for Distributed Control Systems

https://ijeecs.iaescore.com/index.php/IJEECS/article/view/2429
Yi Liu , Haiying Yang
The distributed control systems are applied widely in communication, navigation and power fields. With growing in both systems complexity and speed of data exchange, the real time performance of systems is required. Existing clock synchronization techniques include those for wide-area network (WAN) applications with large propagation delays, e.g., the Network Time Protocol (NTP), and those for control systems over local-area networks (LANs), e.g., the IEEE 1588 Precise Time Protocol (PTP). However, NTP-like protocols have only millisecond-scale precision, which is too coarse for many LAN applications such as instrument monitoring systems, high-quality digital audio systems and sensor networks. The 1588 PTP like protocols, which are still under development, require support of a highly precise hardware clock. The key point of the existing Ethernet test and measurement is that the method needs to achieve precision clock synchronization between different terminals. In this paper, an improved method is proposed with consideration of the time drift and propagation delay, expressing master-slave synchronization as a linear relationship and inducting the line of least squares fitting algorithm that traded as linear matrix form. The precision time protocol (PTP) is also analyzed in this paper. The experiment results show that the synchronization accuracy reaches sub-microsecond grade, which is the same as the PTP. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i7.2832

Abstract Pakistan is facing serious energy crisis at present. The government is aiming to utilize the immense potential of renewable energy sources like: Solar, Wind, etc, in addition to intensify the conventional sources of energy to over the acute shortage of energy. Wind energy is the fastest-developing energy source worldwide. The aim of this paper is to explore and estimate the wind power potential of Hawksbay Karachi, one of the locations in southern part of Pakistan. Wind speed data (in meters per second) from April 2009 to April 2011 at four different heights is measured. Wind power densities, frequency distribution, and Weibull distribution of wind speed are calculated in this study. This study also presents the analysis and comparison of 5 numerical methods to determine the Weibull scale and shape parameters for the available wind data. The estimated wind power to be generated through commercial wind turbine is also included. The yearly mean wind speed at Hawksbay, Karachi is 5.9m/s and has power density of 197W/m2 at 80m height with high power density during April to August. The estimated cost per kWh is US$0.0345. Therefore the site may be considered suitable for wind turbine applications. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i7.2621

Multi-Field Coupling Mechanism of Electrolytic In-process Dressing- Ultrasonic Honing System

https://ijeecs.iaescore.com/index.php/IJEECS/article/view/2461
Jicai Kuai
This paper proposes the ELID (Electrolytic in Process Dressing) ultrasonic honing system, and conducts simulation for the solution - acoustic coupling mechanism of electrolyte between the anion and cathode of ELID ultrasonic honing system. Meanwhile, a comparative experiment is carried out for the ultrasonic honing and ordinary honing. The simulation results show that there is no obvious increase of the coupling speed of the system’s electrolyte, but the rapid change of local speed, which will accelerate the electrolyte renewal around the electrode, thereby intensifying the mass transfer of reactive ion of the electrochemical double layer, increasing the updating speed of ion concentration and speeding up the electrode reaction process; the intense variations of coupling pressure further enhances the updating speed of the electrolyte; Then the electrolytic parameters, ultrasound parameters and honing parameters obtained by simulation are respectively used to conduct experiments of ELID-ultrasound honing, ultrasound honing and traditional honing for ZrO2 ceramic. The comparative experiment results show that the machining accuracy of ELID-ultrasonic honing is 10 times of the traditional honing and twice of the ultrasonic honing; the new acoustic system adopted in ELID-ultrasound honing system reduces the amplitude, so the processing efficiency increase is not significant. This ELID-ultrasonic honing system is more suitable for the ultra-precision honing of certain difficult-to-cut materials. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i7.2865

Electromagnetic Environment and Target Simulator for Radar Test

https://ijeecs.iaescore.com/index.php/IJEECS/article/view/2413
Jurong Hu , Xuning Zhu , Long Chen
This paper describes the design of a general purpose electromagnetic environment and target simulator which is used to test radar and its components. The simulator was a hardware system controlled by computer software which generated echoes of targets, clutter and jamming for radar electromagnetic environment scenario simulation. It responded to the subject radar’s antenna scan by producing composite echoes in real time. Computer programs were used to management the simulation process and allowed various combinations of electromagnetic environment. Parallel signal generator was exploited to increase the execution speed and achieve real-time performance. Since the simulator could produce video frequency and intermediate frequency echo separately it was used for the test of most components of radar. The capability to accommodate dynamic scenarios of long duration in real time for detailed tracking studies distinguished the simulator from other pulse-by-pulse simulators that had been previously reported. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i7.2816
