Towards More Reliable Renewable Power Systems - Thermal Performance Evaluation of DC/DC Boost Converters Switching Devices

Power electronic converters (PECs) are one of the most important elements within renewable power generation systems. The reliability of switching elements of PECs is still below expectations and is a major contributor to the downtime of renewable power generation systems. Conventional technology based elements such as Silicon Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistors (IGBTs) operate as switching components in PECs. Recent topological improvements have led to new devices called Silicon Carbide (SiC) MOSFETs which, are also being used as switching elements for PECs. This paper presents detailed investigations into the performance of those switching devices with a focus on their reliability and thermal characteristics. Namely, trench gate NPT, FS IGBT topologies and SiC MOSFET are firstly modelled using 3-D multi-physics finite element modelling to gain clear understanding of their thermal behaviour. Subsequently, modelling outcomes are verified by using those devices as switching elements in operational boost converters. The purposely-developed test setups are utilised to critically assess the performances of those switching devices under different loading and environmental conditions. In general, SiC device was found to exhibit about 20 °C less in its operating temperature and therefore expected to offer more reliable switching element.

Effects of School Absences on GPAs for Disabled Students

Chronic absences, suspensions, and expulsions can all be detrimental to students’ GPAs. Students with disabilities have a disadvantage with learning and require additional services making it crucial that they are present in school. There are various reasons why students miss school and the study examined a few specific research questions. The current investigation examined students’ current GPA scores in the core content areas compared to the number of days absent from school, the frequency of health related school absences, and the number of days spent out of school due to suspensions and expulsions, using data from a national data set. This investigation examines whether or not attendance is related to students’ academic success, when specifically considering students with identified disabilities.

Development of Digital Controller for DC-DC Buck Converter

This paper presents a design & implementation of 3P3Z (3-pole 3-zero) digital controller based on DSC (Digital Signal Controller) for low voltage synchronous Buck Converter. The proposed control involves one voltage control loop. Analog Type-3 controller is designed for Buck Converter using standard frequency response techniques.Type-3 analog controller transforms to 3P3Z controller in discrete domain.Matlab/Simulink model of the Buck Converter with digital controller is developed. Simualtion results for steady state response and load transient response is tested using the model.

AbstractInternationalization of higher education is the top stage of international relations among universities and it is no longer regarded as a goal in itself, but as a means to improve the quality of education.  The knowledge translation and acquisition, mobilization of talent in support of global research and enchantment of the curriculum with international content are considered to be the benefits of internationalization of higher education. Though, internationalization holds many positives to higher education, there are grave risks associated with this multifaceted and growing phenomenon. Negative aspects include commercial profit, academic colonization and difficulty in ensuring quality education. The current review has implications for educational policy makers to ensure positive and reciprocal benefits to the higher education institutions and the countries concerned.

Development and Simulation of Stand Alone Photovoltaic Model Using Matlab/Simulink

This paper presents the implementation of a generalized photovoltaic model using Matlab/Simulink software package, which can be representative of PV cell, module for easy use on simulation platform. The proposed model is designed with a user-friendly icon and a dialog box like Simulink block libraries which makes the generalized PV model easily simulated and analyzed in conjunction with power electronics. Taking the effect of sunlight irradiance and cell temperature into consideration, the output current and power characteristics of PV model are simulated and optimized using the proposed model. The proposed model enables the dynamics of PV power system to be easily simulated, analyzed and optimized.

Toddler stage is referred to as the golden era (golden age period), especially at the age of 0-2 years, the brain developmentreach 80%. This study examines the effects of healthcare support andf ather support for mother on the emotions of children aged under 2 years. This study was observational, with cross-sectional design.The sampling method in this research was multistage random sampling method in three sub districts and 20 villages. The total sample was 279 mothers and their children aged 3 months to 2 years in Blitar. Inferential data analysis using PLS (Partial Least Square) version 2.0.The result was that the children's emotions were formed by psychological factors of mother that affected by father factorsand health care support.

The conventional mobile robotic platforms which either uses wheels or legs are quite familiar and each one of them has its own advantages and disadvantages. The wheeled robot is suitable for only plain and smooth terrain, whereas the legged robot can travel in any kind of terrain but is comparatively slower than the wheeled robot. So, a hybrid of both wheeled and legged platform would be quite suitable for any kind of terrain. The primary focus of this paper is to design and develop a leg-wheel hybrid robotic platform with a concurrent engineering and mechatronics approach to produce results with optimised design metrics at each and every stage of its development. An overall view of the entire mechatronics system is considered for design and development of the robot at each and every stage rather than a sequential engineering approach.

Evaluation of Continuous Assesment Practice by University Lecturers

The study evaluated the extent to which Continuous Assessment (CA) was practiced by university lecturers in Delta State University, Abraka, Nigeria. The evaluation of continuous assessment focused on the cognitive, affective and psychomotor domains of students’ behaviour. That is teaching and learning should focus on these areas. Two research questions were raised, and two hypotheses were tested to achieve the purpose of the study. A sample of 200 lecturers was randomly selected using simple random sampling and stratifies random sampling techniques. A 5-point scaled questionnaire was used as an instrument to collect data. The validity of the instrument was determined through expert judgement and factor analysis. Thus the instrument has face and construct validities. The reliability of the instrument was established through Cronbach Alpha. A reliability coefficient of 0.86 was obtained as a measure of internal consistency. The data collected were analyzed. The research questions were answered with the use of mean. The hypotheses were tested with Z-test at .05 level of significance. The result of evaluation revealed that the extent to which university lecturers practice continuous assessment with emphasis on the cognitive, affective and psychomotor domains of students’ behaviour was low. There was no significant difference between male and female as well as junior and senior lecturers on the practice of continuous assessment in the university. It was noted that there should be a continuous and effective monitoring of continuous assessment practice by the university lecturers.

A Nonlinear Model to Study Selectively Deformable Wing of an Aircraft

Aeroelasticity of an aircraft includes the study of dynamics of prime movers, structural dynamics, and aerodynamics. Research efforts are on in every area to improve the overall performance of an aircraft. In this paper preliminary studies conducted on the dynamics of selectively deformable wing using an under actuated nonlinear model is reported. First, the literature related to the design and analysis of selectively deformable structure (SDS) wing is reviewed. Second, a single degree of freedom (DOF) model to represent a fixed wing and a two DOF under-actuated model to represent SDS are discussed and their mathematical models are derived. Third, the effect of deformable wing portion on the wing dynamics is studied by varying the excitation frequency and stiffness of the model. Fourth, an experimental setup consisting of two rigid links connected by spring and subjected to sinusoidal displacement is investigated. Final section summarizes the research and provides directions for future work.

Two-Degree-of-Freedom PID Controller, Its Equivalent Forms and Special cases

The design of control systems is a multi-objective problem so, a two-degree-of-freedom (abbreviated as 2DOF) control system naturally has advantages over a one degree- of-freedom (abbreviated as 1DOF) control system. The main objective of 2DOF control is to control both set point tracking and disturbance rejections.Various 2DOF PID controllers and its equivalent transformations were proposed for industrial use by different researchers. Most of the above researches were published in Japanese language and have not been translated into English language yet. An objective here is to provide detail analysis regarding structure of 2DOF controller, its equivalent forms and its special cases. A system transfer function having transport delay and load disturbance is considered as a test bench to verify various 2DOF control strategies. MATLAB is used as software tool to verify the various 2DOF control strategies. The analysis will be helpful to the engineers and researchers to understand the topic in detail for further exploration.

Baluran National Park in the regency of Situbondo, East Java-Indonesia, highly prospective for development of sustainable tourism that can improve the welfare of local people. The suitable tourism type is eco-tourism with local people envolvement.The purposes of this study were: 1). To know the local people envolvement in eco-tourism development; 2). To know the potenciesof Baluran National Park; and 3). To formulateEco-tourism Development Strategy.Using the matrix analysis method of IFAS and EFAS, produce a common strategy; SWOT analysis generates alternative strategies. This research was exploring, to formulate policies and programs based internal and external conditions. Data were collected by questionnaire, interview and observation. The number of respondents 25 people who are competent in the field of tourism.The results showed, local people envolvement of Wonorejo, Bajul Mati, Bimo Rejo, Watu Kebo, Sumber Waru and SumberAnyaras buffer villages, in the development of eco-tourism in Baluran National Park needs to be improved through approach, training and community empowerment. Alternative strategy obtained eco-tourism product development strategy; development of basic infrastructure and facilities as well as supporting tourism; tourist market penetration and promotion; increased security; as well as institutional and human resource development strategy of eco-tourism. Eco-tourism development strategy is a strategic priority of generating eco-tourism product development programs and maintaining biological resources.

OPP approach for multi degree of freedom robotic arm Based on Kinematics and Dynamics of Robot

This paper deals with the trajectory and path generation of the industrial manipulator. The trajectory is obtained using the equations of motion and also the optimal path planning (OPP) approach under kinodynamic constraints. The optimal control problem is defined for the minimum cost function and to obtain the necessary conditions. Here we have used pontrygain’s minimum principle to obtain the limiting value of joint angle and also  the joint velocity and torque. In this paper we have used the “Two degree of freedom (DOF) manipulator” for analysis and designing the optimal control for multi link and multi degree of freedom manipulator. For analysis purposes,  simulation software has been used to formulate the trajectory and minimize the cost function involved.

Model of Independency Mother in Caring for Preterm Infant based on Experiential Learning Care (ELC)

The role of parents have done less during the preterm infant care in hospitals caused dependence in caring for the baby. The Obyective of the study was to development a model of independence of the mother in the care of preterm infants with experiential learning approach based theory of goal attainment. Research’s design used analytic correlational in stage 1 and stage 2 used quasy experimental. The population used all mothers with preterm infants treated in perinatal dr. Wahidin Sudiro Husodo Mojokerto and Prof. Dr Soekandar Mojokerto Hospital  with sample size was 28 samples respectively in the treatment group and the control group.Variables used knowledge, decision, action, interaction, experiential learning, and mother independence.The instrumen used questionnaire and checklist. The sample was selected by consecutive sampling method. The study was conducted in August to Desember 2014. In the treatment group was given ELC module and the control group was given treatment by leaflets.Technical data analysts used Partial Linear Square (PLS) and independent t-test. Knowledge maternal of preterm infants was influenced  on the increase interaction with λ = 0,167. Decision mother in caring for preterm infants have a significant effect on the improvement of maternal interaction with the nurse with a value λ = 0,664. Measures mother caring for preterm infants have a significant effect on the improvement of maternal interaction with the nurse with a value λ = 0,172. Interaction significant effect on the increase of Experiential Learning mother in caring for preterm infants with a value λ = 0,790. Experiential Learning significant effect on the increase of the independence of mothers caring for preterm infants with a valuei λ = 0,560. Maternal interaction with nurses significant effect on the improvement of maternal autonomy treating preterm infants with a value  λ = 0,204. T-test showed a significant difference between treatment groups increase independence and control groups. New finding of study is interaction with the approach of Experiential Learning Care (ELC) through methods role play a stronger in improving the independence than  interaction direct to independence. Independence of the mother in caring of preterm infants used nursing interventions in the form of Experiential Learning Care (ELC) more meaningful improvement when compared to the conventional models of intervention. The presence of mothers in the intervention process would trigger a thought process and raises awareness. Awareness will be reflected in the thought process and used as a foothold in the act and acquire new skills to be able to solve the problem. Experiential Learning Care (ELC) can increase the independence of the mother in  caring of preterm infants.

This paper discusses the techniques of attitude, velocity ad position estimation from GNSS carrier phase measurements, and investigates the performance of the lower precision MEMS-based INS/GNSS system based on carrier phase measurements. Double differenced carrier phase measurements provide more accurate velocity and position estimation compared to code and Doppler measurements. However, integer ambiguity is required to be removed for precise positioning. Multiples antennae approach is used to derive the attitude information from carrier phase measurements in order to control the large initial misalignment angles for initialization of the integration process or to utilize during benign dynamics. Lever arm effect is considered to compensate for the separation of GNSS antenna and IMU location. The derived three GNSS observables are used to correct the INS through optimal Kalman filtering in a closed loop. Simulation results indicates the effectiveness of the integrated system for airborne as well as for land navigation vehicles. The initial hype of any development can eclipse its practical applications. The present paper attempts to separate the hype of cloud computing and explores the possibilities of resource sharing in libraries through Cloud Computing. The present study is based on the usage pattern of cloud computing in libraries and explores a model for resource sharing. It also proposes a cloud based resource sharing framework for moving from ground to the cloud. Although a lot of work has been done on cloud computing yet none of the works has been dedicated to the cause of libraries. With the development of electronic resources and shift in user’s preference of online services there is an urgent need of change in library practices.
